From Season 2, someone often says in a weird voice, "Charlie, they cut off my thumbs, Charlie!" From a movie?

Might be from "The Hustler" when Paul Newman gets his thumbs broken for hustling pool. Not cut off though.

It's from "The Pope Of Grenich(sp?) Village"
I've never seen it, but Eric Roberts losing this thumbs was a talked about scene in many reviews at the time.

in Giant Spider Invasion, there is a reference to Nassau County, New York, a county out on Long Island. I couldn't believe this the first time I heard it. "oh, so you from NASSAU?" not NASSAU you ingrate, NASA!
there is also a reference to Raceway Park, which is raceway in New Jersey I believe. the commercials for this racetrack involved a high pitched laughing character, a-la the intro to Wipe-Out, and then the character saying, "RACEWAY PARK!" this is WAY local, and though I know Bill Corbet grew up in Brooklyn.....for it to be on the show is amazing.
there have also been a couple of SoBe reference I feel are a bit esoteric. " Drain the Wizard!"

[glow=green,2,300]I was just wondering, in Eegah when the guy leaps over the fence as Eegah is causing chaos by the pool, what is the significance of the L.A. Stevens riff?[/glow]

While watching Soultaker recently I came across two riffs that I didn't quite get
-When our heroes exit the convience store and they show the door closing,Mike says "Why its Harvey hi Harvey"
-After Zack gets pushed out of the elevator by Joe Estevez(It was near the part where he's disguised as the Urkel lookalike) Crow says "So Estevez can become a member of Debarge at any time"
Hopefully someone can explain these two

The Harvey reference is to an old Jimmy Stewart movie about a man with an invisible friend rabbit named Harvey.

When I ask this question, remember, I am only twelve. In Manos, when Crow says, "Joel, I think they sent us a snuff film!" What do they mean snuff film?

Oooh, this isn't going to be easy. I suppose it's better if a woman explains it than a man. A snuff film is a movie that shows someone being raped and/or murdered.....in real life. Yes, Chemical2010, such evil does exist in the world. Sorry. Now let's sing the "Bouncy, Upbeat Song"

Oh whenever I want to cry and bawl, And I'm feeling sad, I think of ironing boards and drywall, And then I don't feel so bad.
Whenever I'm feeling sad and blue, And sorry for myself, I get some staples and some glue, And I'm happy as an elf!
Oh whenever I want to mope and pout, And there's nothing left in my soul, I check the toilet paper and if we're out, I buy another roll!
Have you ever touched a Post-It note? Have you ever looked at boots? Have you ever sat down in a chair? Have you ever used a paper clip?
So if you listen to our advice, And you wanna feel terrific, Do things that make you feel nice! I wish we could be more specific.
There, now the hurt is all gone, right? It's the best I can do.

Debarge was a really cheesy "soul" group. They did some stuff in the early and mid 80's, I think. I don't know a great deal about them, but I do remember a couple of their songs that really sucked.
And to the poor 11-year-old -- it's okay, no one has ever found evidence that a real "snuff" film ever existed. A lot of movies claim to be snuff films in order to cause controversy, but real snuff films are sort of an urban legend.

Cupcake is right. The film "Hardcore" with George C. Scott is about these "rumored" snuff films. If you ever hear the riff "Turn it off!" In a gruff voice? That's a line from the movie spoken by Scott, when he see's an adult film with his daughter in it. Very sad and dark movie.
