I'm also a straight female and I enjoy the sultry women and sexual overtones of Spider Island, which are pretty quaint by today's standards. Although I feel like I should hate the film on principle, it's over-the-top awful portrayal of women as oversexed, completely helpless sex-starved sexual beings of sex, is actually quite amusing to me. I just get into the fun of it.
Oh, I also love Babs. Hooh, she is hot!

Well, I was thinking that you mainly liked it because of the sexual factor...but anyway. I haven't seen it unMSTed and I'm not sure what I would think...probably the helplessness of the women would grate on me a bit. I wouldn't have as violent a reaction to it as a lot of other MSTed movies I can think of, though. On another subject, I never have understood the thing people do here of quoting the entirety of a post _right above theirs_. I mean, come on, we can read! We can scroll up! I could understand using the quote button for something that was several pages ago, but for Pete's sake, in cases like this...just reference, paraphrase, and type out, with your own hands, the name of the person you're replying to. Sheesh. Sorry, but that over-use of the quote button--on this board and a couple others I know--has been bugging me for a while now... (shakes head) ...Notorious Is THIS what you're talking about since you decided to go wildly off topic. Yeah, I dig the sexual factor, but it's a groovy movie all around.

It wasn't really all that off-topic...I was talking about something that people do in EVERY SINGLE FLAPJACKSING THREAD here, all the time. It just bugs me. Can't you just, you know, _reply_? Not YOU you, I mean, people in general. Can't "one" just reply. Or at least only quote the section of the post that's relevant to what you're referring to, instead of the whole thing...
I don't like scrolling way down through a post to find out that it's 90% + old stuff, with only a tiny one line or a few words' worth new content. That's why it bugs me. I don't want to keep reading the exact same bloody thing I just barely read (or in many cases, wrote myself!) in tiny, harder-to-read font form. Just the new stuff.
And if it REALLY offends you that much, I'll stop going "wildly off topic" (looks at watch)...._now_. There.
As for "enjoying" the sexiness of Spider Island...yeah, I can see what you're saying, Blurryeye. It was not ever _meant_ to be a porn movie, but their blatant attempt to be sleazy enough to get butts in the seats is so exaggerated it's funny. Including having the stripper music playing when that one chick is alone, and there's nobody to writhe _for_ ("Take a look at my good stuff, Nature!") and even during her death scene! Sheesh, can't the girl have even one moment of dignified music when she's dead? :P
The only other case I can think of in a MSTed movie where the soundtrack was _that_ inappropriate would be "Legend of the Dinosaur"...in which the music was so loud/annoying that most of the time you couldn't hear yourself think, and they had "tender moment" music playing during a scene in which a guy, possibly the main one, was male chauvanistly refusing to let his girlfriend go find out what was going on, and then slapped her. As Joel said at the time, "What's with this music? This is NOT a tender moment!" The wrong-music in Spider Island was way funnier, though. :P

My second favorite season behind 8. I voted Final Justice, just over Soultaker.
Future War, Moon Beast, Spider Island, & Diabolik also rocked.

Moonbeast. I'm surprised this isn't more popluar. Hell the Phantom rule alone should be enough to win fans. All the elements are in place: Broad goofy characters, a cheesy monster, wooden acting, a nice tag line to draw on (Corns, onions..."sigh" hair...). Johnny Longbow and the Band who sang California lady are classic MST fodder. And yet, many can't get into this episode. Ah well. I think the riffing a blast so I voted for it. Me too. I liked this one the first time it aired. The riffing doesn't let up and just about every scene is funny.

I also voted for Horrors of Spider Island--for some reason I can watch that one over-and-over and it never gets old (Parts: The Clonus Horror is the same way). I'm strangely attracted to the giant, naked wrestling giantess, Babs.

Future War by a mile. Everything from the cardboard camera, empty boxes stacked neatly for no apparent reason, exploding dinosaurs, never finding out who Fred Burrows is, to the last fight scene where our hero's shirt gets knocked off makes this episode #1 for season 10. Awesome episode. "Fred Burrows" is probably "Fred," the well-rounded African American who inhabits a large part of the halfway house. Sister Whatsername calls him Fred in one of their early scenes together. For what it's worth, it took me 7 years to make the connection.

Spider Island for me as well; Babs is super sexy and so are many of the other girls. ALSO, the movie is so over-the-top and ridiculous, plot-wise. The riffing kills throughout the whole movie, not surprising since the movie lends itself to making jokes very easily!
Moonbeast, Soultaker, and Squirm are also top-notch, Squirm mainly for the short (Coily!) and accompanying skit (Mikey and Mikes-socksy!) on the other hand, Future War has some funny scenes and accompanying riffs but the movie is just abominable, one of those I personally don't care to watch that much.
Hey, nobody's voted for "It Lives By Night" yet...
