My OCD is satiated. Carnival Magic is probably Krypton Int. Krypton owns every movie studio now. Disney was going to buy Fox but Krypton beat them to it. Then they bought Disney to teach them a lesson.

I assume CARNIVAL MAGIC was probably licensed from the company that did the Blu-ray/DVD release (or was at least paid for the HD transfer). I wouldn't be surprised if the film ended up being grey-area PD given its history.

GASP! KRYPTON BOUGHT CRITERION TOO!
We've been discussing that in the Godzilla thread down in the movie section. There is a lot of speculation going on as to what Janus has planned for those titles. The high optimist theory is they might be trying to do a complete Showa Godzilla collection, and just need the rights to the Kraken and Universal films to do it.

I knew DreamWorks wasn't interested in guys in rubber suits. Better to have the Showa films in more loving hands and I think Criterion can easily get the licenses for the remaining ones if they want a complete set.

Oh please, DreamWorks is too busy trying to convince itself that its animation studio is still the "hip" and "with it" one, while Illumination steals their entire audience by doing the exact same thing DreamWorks was doing fifteen years ago.

You know, come to think of it... I wonder if Toho is the reason FVI went bankrupt to begin with? I can't possibly imagine the foreign companies for Cave Dwellers and Pod People being mad that their movies were taken. Maybe CBS for Stranded in Space and Master Ninja and possibly Columbia with Marooned. According to the Ballyhoo documentary on MST3K set XXXVI, Film Ventures went bankrupt because founder Edward Montoro robbed the company of all its funds, then fled to Mexico, never to be seen again. The biggest financial hit to the company (other than Montoro's skullduggery) was when they lost a lawsuit to Universal. FVI had recently released an Italian shark flick with Vic Morrow called Great White. Universal claimed copyright infringement on their Jaws franchise and subsequently won.

Incidentally, Great White was riffed by Rifftrax under the title The Last Shark.

Does that mean Great White is public domain now?

It was released on DVD a few years ago by RetroMedia. I think it was licensed, but don't quote me on that.
I think it's possible that Universal just doesn't give a damn about it anymore.

Joshua Murphy of The MSTiecast has finally posted the first part of his interview with Wade Williams on YouTube. He says he'll be posting the second part soon.
Another interview Joshua has conducted relating to MST3k is Kit Parker of Kit Parker Films. Parker shares his thoughts on Wade Williams, as well as Susan Hart. He says he's tried to deal with her, but she's demanding too much money for her films.
What do you think, sirs?

Wade actually sounds like a really friendly guy after listening to the interview, in spite of him slightly overreacting to the whole deal of Mst3k.
