It's among my favorite Joel episodes (although admittedly those are restricted solely to Rhino releases). It stays pretty funny throughout and the host segments are good.
I agree with jkrobertson. If you want overrated see Manos. I would never, ever show Manos to someone unfamiliar with MST3K. Pod People, maybe...

Pod People, along with the movie, is pretty much the best introduction you can get to the show.

@hobbesluigi- I don't know about that. I admit, "Pod People" is one of those episodes that "newbies" to MST shouldn't be subjected to right away since the movie is so bad (no offense to the episode). strangefate- Good to see someone else think of "Manos" as low as I do. ;D And I wouldn't show it to someone unfamiliar with MST, either.

Really? Pod People was my first episode and it got me hooked almost immediately. I thought the movie was wonderfully strange. Special mention also goes to Santa Claus Conquers The Martians, my second episode.

Almost every MSTie here I've asked or seen saying what their first episode ever was that got them hooked was Pod Friggin' People. Thanks, pal.

@hobbesluigi- Now, now, don't be hard on me! ;D In fact, "Pod People" was the first episode with Joel that I ever saw, and it's thanks mainly to "Pod People" that I'm a Joel fan!

legitimately can't fathom it's reputation. it's astoundingly unfunny and annoying.

legitimately can't fathom it's reputation. it's astoundingly unfunny and annoying. I'm not calling it out as especially bad or anything but I see it in an awful lot of top lists for the show. *Was reading way back into the General Chat threads and somebody (also c. 2007?) had pointed out the significant bump those commercial releases enjoy, Pod People among them. There are a number of good solid laughs but there are also as many extended dead zones where you're left staring at the movie's fog, waiting for the next laugh. The host segments, as is the case throughout Seasons 2 and 3, are top shelf and help the episode out but overall it's just a slightly above average one (imo, of course). I've got it 67th overall. *Which is totally fine, obviously. Another more recent poster pointed out how many different episodes find their way into these top lists - a testament to the imagination of the show.
