My top 5:
1. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation: I watch this at least 4 or 5 times leading up to Christmas.
2. Scrooge: The 1951 version with Alastair Sim. A Christmas Carol is one of my favorite stories and this is the version that I like the most. Old but I think the actors do the best job with the characters.
3. Year Without A Santa Claus: I can't explain why I like this one. Maybe it's just Snow and Heat Miser.
4. Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol: It's grown on me a lot over the years.
5. It's A Wonderful Life: I enjoy it but it's a horror to try and watch on tv.

A Christmas Story. Even on 24 hour marathons that movie never gets old

My top 5: 2. Scrooge: The 1951 version with Alastair Sim. A Christmas Carol is one of my favorite stories and this is the version that I like the most. Old but I think the actors do the best job with the characters. Loved that one too! Also the George C. Scott and Albert Finney Christmas Carols. Also never miss Charlie Brown Christmas mostly for the music !

My top three. 1. Bad Santa. I thought it was hilarious and it's one that I'll be watching every Christmas. I have a crude sense of humor sometimes and this one was perfect for me. A true holiday classic. 2. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. This is one my wife and I watch every year. One of the last known hilarious performances by Chevy Chase! We even have the ornament we got with the DVD on our tree right now. Another classic. 3. A Christmas Story. I know, I know they show it ad nauseum every year but I still enjoy it. Of course there is also the MST3K Santa Claus Conquers The Martians & Santa Claus which my wife and I will be enjoying on Christmas Eve this year. Since this thread is not listed in the MST3K General spot, I didn't list them. If I did they would be #1 and #2!

My favorites are
1. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer – Watching this makes me feel like a kid again.
2. A Christmas Story – Simply a classic.
3. It’s a Wonderful Life – Sure its overplayed, but its still a great film. Avoid the evil Ted Turner colorized version!

A Christmas Story is the only Xmas movie I can stand to watch but over the last few years I'm getting a bit weary of it also.

My roommate is obessed with Christmas movies. I'm drowning... On the bright side, I introduced him to the MST version (he has actually seen it repeatedly in the uncut form) of Santa Claus Conquers The Martians. He giggled like a school girl.

A Christmas Story is the only Xmas movie I can stand to watch but over the last few years I'm getting a bit weary of it also. Thanks for spreading that holiday cheer, phantom! My mom and I have had a tradition of watching X-mas movies in the holiday season for many years, ever since I was 10 or so. These are the ones we always watch: It's a Wonderful Life- This is a great movie. It's ingrained in my consciousness. I watched it every day one year in the summer, when I was 7 or 8. I've watched it at least 40 times. It still gets better every time I see it. A Christmas Story- This may be the first movie I ever saw in the theater. My earliest memory of a scene in a movie is of Ralphie standing at the top of the stairs in his pink bunny jammies. I also watched this one regularly in the summer as a child. White Christmas- An old-fashioned song and dance movie with sentimentality and glamour, yet the end where they honor the old general is still quite moving. Great song and dance routines, for those who care. Christmas Vacation- This is more enjoyable to me than the original Vacation. Always funny. Pretty much the only Chevy Chase movie I really like, come to think of it. Prancer- One of my personal favorites, an under-rated gem. One of the few movies that always makes me cry. The scene where Sam Elliot reads to his daughter "Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus" gets the tears rolling every time. Good coming-of-age movie. We also usually watch The Homecoming and The House Without a Christmas Tree. More coming-of-age bittersweet, corny poignancy. Mmm, so good at Christmas!

A Christmas Story is brilliant and a hell of a lot of fun. Other than that, these days I don't care for X-mas movies much. The thrill is gone. The thrill is gone away... Well, somewhat. The best thing about Christmas for me is the feeling, not the presents or the movies and definitely not the music (except George Winston). That feeling is still there, even if it's detached from any particular Christmas component.
BTW I actually did a sort of MST on It's a Wonderful Life. I took scenes from the movie and arranged and edited them so that the movie starts really happy, gets gradually worse, and ends with George jumping off the bridge. Also included are scenes from Rudolph the RNR and The Ewok Adventure. My friends and I provided improvised voice over for the characters. End result: It's a Terrible Life. Really quite juvenile, but fun. I think I'll bust it out on my family when I visit.
I thought about sending a copy of it to John Waters as a Christmas present, but it's not THAT great.
say this gives me an idea for a thread

It's a Wonderful Life A Christmas Story Scrooge (Alistar Simm's version. My wife got me into this. Terrific!)
(Christmas Vacation is very hit-and-miss for me. The scenes with Randy Quaid are classic, but there are whole sequences that really drag for me)
Television-wise, we always watch MST3K's "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians," "Blackadder's Christmas Carol" and "Merry Christmas, Mr. Bean." Will add "The Office Christmas Special" this year.

It's A Wonderful Life I watch every year but almost never from beginning to end. Just bits and pieces from all the times they show it to add up to watching it once a year. Alfalfa was cool.
I like Christmas Vacation but mostly for cousin Ed. He's a hoot.
A Christmas Story is really starting to wear thin on me. I have seen that movie as much as any other but I'll still probably watch it this year. I mean it's only starting to wear out because it's such a good one and I've seen it so much.
Gotta love Bill Murray in Scrooged. Not a great movie but great comedic performances spread about.
And though it's not technically 'Christmas' I think the 1968 musical of Oliver! is great for the season. My favorite musical and just so fun to watch.
Bah humbug! ;D
