www.wired.com/2014/04/mst3k-oral-historySome interesting new tidbits here and there. Rick Sloane is still butt-hurt over the interview segment from "Hobgoblins". Actually, i kid, he says he's always enjoyed the episode.

I personally don't think "This Island Earth" is THAT great a film (having seen the uncut version before). It has some nice special effects, but it has a pretty senseless plot.
That said, I agree with everyone who's said "Tormented". It has a pretty interesting idea for a story, and I said once over at Satellite News that had it had a bigger budget, better actors, and maybe a better director helming it, like Alfred Hitchcock, it could have been a classic psychological thriller.
"The Projected Man" isn't too bad either. In fact, it could easily be looked as a precursor to the Jeff Goldblum "Fly" remake.
"The Final Sacrifice" looks like it would be watchable without riffing. Even Crow says at the end "This wasn't as bad as the usual fare."

You know what would be amazing? If that "Stop" sign was the exact same one from back when the movie was filmed.

Looks like more of a ground was added to lessen the drop from those openings. MST3K Locations #20 - Cry Wilderness
MST3K Locations 20 - Cry Wilderness 1 by Loran Alan Davis, on Flickr Paul and his dad explore the ancient ruins where Bigfoot lurks in the 1987 film Cry Wilderness (episode 1102). This was not a set, but an actual animal enclosure at the abandoned Griffith Park Zoo.
The zoo was closed in 1966 when the new Los Angeles Zoo opened, but most of the abandoned ruins remain and are open to the public.

It would be interesting to actually ask the people who own these businesses and ask if they're aware that they work at the site where a movie was filmed.

Pass this along to MST3KInfo. Even if Sampo is a curmudgeon, he might be interested in covering this. Yeah, I was thinking of sharing there after we got more info, but I guess I could do it sooner. I assume they still read their emails? Sampo used to be good at responding to email or responding to comments in Episode Discussions, but he never acknowledged the email or comment I left regarding a role Beez played on the show. That aside, congrats on finding this guy, and I too hope he's legit.

here is a good filming location, Best Brains Studio and the sylvan glen from Prince of Space. I google mapped BBI. It still looks deserted. The Sylvan Glen is like right across the street.

MST3K Locations #12 - Zombie Nightmare MST3K Locations 12 - Zombie Nightmare 1 by Loran Alan Davis, on Flickr The Twist Et Crème dessert shop in Montreal, Canada as seen in the 1986 film Zombie Nightmare (episode 604), and as it appears today. The building looks abandoned, but it isn’t. Friends in Montreal assure me the establishment is still in operation – but only during the summer. I think we finally found a location that hasn't changed at all over the years!

I remember cutting that article out and pasting it to an old clamshell tape where I kept a recorded copy of the final episode. I think i still have it in storage. Any chance you can scan it? If I can find the tape, then yes. It's possible, Tom's MST3K Temple may have scanned copies.

MST3K Locations #5 - GunslingerView AttachmentThe fictional town of Oracle, Texas as seen in the 1956 film Gunslinger (episode #511). The actual location was the old Jack Ingram Movie Ranch in Topanga, California.
In the early 70s the ranch fell into disuse and the dilapidated sets were razed. Today, the land is privately owned and closed to the public. I have to say that's a change for the better. i love it when something goes back to amore natural state, mor trees and plants, etc.

Isn't the "sacrifice" area from 'Manos: Hands of Fate' in El Paso still there, with the stones untouched?

I just did a side-by-side comparison of the fountain area from the "Seattle Science Center" featured in the short "Century 21 Calling". On the left, the way it looks in the short film, and on the right how it looks today. Apart from the dinosaur statues, a few walkways were added.
