You're probably all aware of this if you check in with Satellite News, but I couldn't find a mention of this after a cursory glance of the forums so I thought that I'd just post this here.
MST3K is apparently listed as #11 in TV Guide's list of the Top 25 Cult Shows. That's the news, here's my editorial.
I was vaguely dissapointed in some of their listings. They've apparently got a pretty loose definition of "Cult" at TV Guide as one of the shows that beat MST3K was "The Simpsons." Now, whether or not The Simpsons is better than MST3K may be up to debate and a matter of opinion. But how is (are?) The Simpsons a cult show? With one of the strongest fan bases for a show in history, it's hard to call it exactly a "little known phenomenon."
Similarly, "The X-Files", while I can see it turning into a Cult show in the not too distant future, still seems a bit too recent for the term "cult" to apply in my mind.
Still, they were right about a few. Family Guy, while not my favorite show in the world, could probably be considered a Cult show. Star Trek has become a cult show over the decades. And, of course, they mentioned Pee-wee's kids show which has "cult status" written all over it.
In the end, I can see why they didn't list MST3K as #1, but I certainly think that it should've been much higher than it was.
Now I'm going to check another forum and find that someone else has beaten me to talking about this.
*Sigh*

I agree 200%. Why the hell is The Simpsons even on there? 10.
The X-Files is definitely not a cult TV show, because I know for a fact that it was madly popular. 9.
So, just removing those two, MST3K is now at #9. Be right back, i'm gonna check that list.
Never mind, the list isn't available online.

I think it's an okay list, X-Files was cult show for while and I think it qualifies. Simpsons is a push and I think it's just become too mainstream to be considered a cult show. Monty Python's Flying Circus may have been cult in America but it was a big show over in Britan so I think that shouldn't qualify.

So what shows should have been there? Maybe Outer Limits.

So what shows should have been there? Maybe Outer Limits. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's the Lost World, the television series.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's the Lost World, the television series. I did a Google search for it and a bunch of sites came up so I guess it has a cult following. It used to be on Saturday mornings right? I think I saw a few minutes of it.

"H.R. Pufnstuf" is a cult show??!!??
What are the writers at TV Guide smoking - talking mushrooms?
Someone should properly define 'cult' for our friends at TV Guide.
If they understood the concept, they would know that the only real cult Krofft show is "Lidsville", or maybe "Land of the Lost".

The one that struck me as odd is Xena: Warrior Princess. Is that really a cult show? (And if so, why is it ranked at #9?)
