THe only thing I really noticed was the glitches in The Dead Talk Back. The volume is very low on mine and there are a few moments where there are some glitches in the film, altohugh it's not anything severe. I looked at my disk before I played it for the first time and I noticed that there appears to be a little blue splotch inside the disk. At first I thought is was a small piece of fabric, but it's hard to tell. With my copy it doesn't affect any riffs and I just have to turn the volume up a little bit more. I wouldn't know about any cut scenes that should be there however.

I shall look on the bright side of all of this, it says a lot about Skyroniter as a trader if his copies are actually better than the official ones released.
Let us all look at this as one big advertisment for Sky's site.

Sky has a site? Pray tell, what is the name of this... site?

So has anyone e-mailed Rhino about this? You mean, "Has someone started beating their head against that same brick wall again?" (ps - I haven't seen my copy yet)

Okay, it appears that I should make an addendum to my earlier post.
I don't simply buy the boxed sets because I need them to see new episodes, although that's a big part. I also buy them to support the Brains. I do believe, like many of you, that they deserve at the very least what they get from these boxed sets. I will buy them, but I'm afraid of Rhino doing the 'Killer Shrews' thing on every boxed set. Once is acceptable as a fluke, and honestly, I'm not a huge fan of killer shrews, so I shouldn't be complaining, but twice is making me lose confidence and trust in Rhino.
Yes, I will continue to support The Brains through Rhino, I just am a bit miffed that two boxed sets in a row had major flaws. I shouldn't have posted so much in anger and frustration, and for that I apologize.

Here's the kicker: I haven't seen a lot of episodes. I was fairly new to the show, getting into it in the eighth or ninth season. Even when it was on TV, I usually got the channel changed on me while I was watching it (only one TV in the house with more than four channels don'tca know). When I saw Rhino boxed set number five, it rekindled my old love with the show, and spurred me to learn more about it, which ultimately caused me to join this board and be a part of the community. Rhino pretty much introduced me to Joel (I'd seen a few episodes with him in it before somehow). I owe Rhino a lot. However, Had I bought the episodes from volume eight before they were announced from Sky, it would've cost me somewhere in the ballpark of $15. And I would've gotten the exact same thing the boxed set gave me, just not in a box and with no nifty cover art. Sky says his master doesn't have the imperfections that Rhino's disk has. I agree with Mighty Jack that they don't seem to respect us very much, but at the same time, I have no idea what episodes will come out next, so unless I order the entire series from Sky (prohibitively expensive right now), I'm stuck with Rhino if I want to keep seeing new episodes. Rhino has become my heroine dealer who keeps slipping me poision, but I still need them. My previous statement was partly based in humor. No one should attempt to "compete" with Rhino and offer episodes that they have available. The commercial releases are how the folks who are responsible for this great show get paid for their efforts. Good sales of the commercial releases also might increase the possibility of the show going back into production. Listen... I'm not calling for some kind of Rhino hate party, or any kind of boycott, I just want everyone to be aware that there are choices here. If we just roll over and continue to accept the poor quality choices that Rhino is making, then we have nothing to complain about. We have a voice in this market. We are the "Official" discussion board for Mystery Science Theater 3000. I waited seven months to get a Killer Shrew replacement disc. I mentioned my affiliation with the board in my final e-mail request, and I had the disc within a week! If changes are to be made, they have to start with us. We are the market that Rhino wishes to court. If we don't make it known that we are dissatisfied, this will continue. The quality control has subsequently gotten worse with each volume. As of this writing, I don't have a solid answer for you, I just know that I am not going to fork out the bucks anymore; not until Rhino takes as seriously the commitment to a quality product, as we take our commitment to this crazy puppet show.

I, like many others, generally don't concern myself with the packaging. Sure the little blurbs on the front tend to be inane, and the images have little to do with the actual episode, but what I want is the episode itself. I also am intent on supporting BBI and giving them some payoff for what they've given us. BUT... Rhino needs to pay more attention to the product they're turning out. I like the idea of a preview copy going out to someone for review. As far as I'm concerned, they wouldn't need to pay, just send me a comp copy, and I'd be more than happy to put in my 2 cents on the quality. Of course, it'd be better to send it to someone who's more familiar with the entire run of the show. I'm a late bloomer, not jumping in until it was on Sci-Fi. I still haven't seen a large part of the CC run, and I wouldn't have ever caught the problem with the Killer Shrews disc. Still, though, I think it would be a good idea to just send out a handful of comp copies to people with the knowledge and the eyes to catch these things BEFORE they hit the shelves. Maybe they'd have to replace a disc, but at least they'd be able to do it before it gets distributed all over the frickin' world. As for the Dead Talk Back glitch: I can understand if the master tape is damaged, and this may well be the best we can get, but if that's the case, the least they can do is issue some sort of statement to that effect. Just a little comment from Jim, Kevin, or Mike would be enough to keep my complaints down. Then again, it might not be the master. It might have been the player they used during the transfer, in which case...

The problem is, MST3K is probably not a big priority on Rhino's belt. When they get 5 or 6 emails from angry fans about messed up discs, they're probably thinking: "oh god, we give the nerds what they want, and they send us hate mail..." It's most likely not their fault anyway. The way I see it is, so what if they make a mistake or two here and there! The point is is that we're actually seeing an official decent release of one of the greatest TV shows ever!! And the fact that Rhino could conceivably cancel future releases due to such matters, I'm gonna shut my mouth and see what happens...No use crying over spilled milk. I can live with audio/video glitches on my dvds from time to time...There's more high quality episodes over messed up ones.

I don't care if MST3K is the very bottom of their list. It's still one of their products, and they should QA these things before they go out. I'm buying MST3K because it's MST3K, and I doubt I'll ever buy anything other than MST3K from Rhino, seeing what kind of work they turn out. I will not go gentle into that good night. Keeping quiet can only result in their bar being lowered. It's low enough already, thankyouverymuch.

Man, I’m happy I decided to hold off on buying this set until I receive my corrected episode of Killer Shrews from Rhino. (Which I have completely given up on.)
I have given up on Rhino and I will not be buying any further products from them. It’s just not worth it to me.

Don't even the big companies make mistakes? I've seen Disney recalling stuff or explaing mistakes in their products...and that's Disney. Rhino is a small outfit. I'm not trying to defend them in a big way. Just putting that out there. And what do I know?

Big companies make big mistakes all the time...In fact I just got my Back to the Future 2 and 3 DVDs replaced because of MAJOR framing issues (here's the link to see what i'm talking about: www.angelfire.com/film/bttf2/) The fact that certain EXPENSIVE special effects were being cut off by the wide screen margins was MAJOR stuff....not the slight audio/video defects of a Rhino release television show. Look, the fact of the matter is this: Stop buying MST3K on dvd, and they'll stop making them, PERIOD. Look at the family guy dvds!! They sold so many, that they brought the show back on the air!! That's never happened before....I don't know about you guys, but i'd love to see MST3K back in business...That's my two cents.
