Ya know what the biggest pisser is? We're stuck with the Rhinos. Fan traders drop them from their circulation list as soon as Rhino announces they will be releasing. My point, once Rhino releases their crappy copies, WE'RE STUCK WITH THEM! Also doesn't help when you've already got the tape but you're looking forward to getting rid of it after the DVD comes out... Anyone care to join me in a class action suit? STORM THE CASTLE!!!

Hello, i'm new to the forum...Anyway, I've already encountered a problem on my Season 8 DVD set....The last disc (The Dead Talk Back) has severe sound problems!!! I had my volume all the way up to 95 and I could still barely hear it!! Not to mention the digital artifacts, and jumpy white blocks from time to time..What gives? Anyone else have this problem? Is it just me? Do I have a booger hanging out of my nose?

Maybe I should have lent Rhino my 603 master. It doesn't have those glitches.

That's why they need to let some fans preview these before they go out. Yeah, Skyroniters copy was real purty, one of the best fancopies I've ever seen. Thank god I have it, but it's sad that I have to hold onto backups.
Edit: I'm going to make a list of my home copies that are subpar (like indestructible man or Beatniks) and when I have some cash. get new copies.
I'm done with Rhino. I know this will piss some folks off who'll say that I need to support the company, but until they show some quality controll and offer extras. They're not getting another dime outta me.

Wow. But for being the only real way mainstream fans can see episodes in their entirety, you're really sticking it to them hard. I'm sure if we would bring it up to them, they would politely admit the mistake and start replacing discs. There's no way they would pay someone to watch the WHOLE episode from start to finish just to make sure there's no audio/picture problems...This is Rhino we're talking about here, not 20th Century Fox, or Sony Pictures who i'm sure have whole floors in their 12 Trillion Dollar 500 story metropolitan business buildings dedicated to dvd picture/sound quality control. I'm sure when they recieve the masters, or whatever type of format they recieve the episodes in, they're assured that they are in their orginal air date conditions. If not, what the hell! So what if it slips through the dvd press machine, let a few fans scream out in terror and then send a steamy letter laced with Mystie bitterness, and a dash of the brown stuff. The point is, I'm not worried too much about little problems like this, they'll honor the defect, and probably fix it up. If not, i'm sure we'll all get free DVD Set coupons! And as for the lack of special features, c'mon! What more could we ask for? Every set has at least 4 full episodes and a short or two!! Imagine all the extra nasty compression artifacts we'd see if they crammed some more features into each disc!! And don't even mention a seperate disc dedicated to JUST extras....forget it, they'd probably sacrifice a whole episode for the inclusion of such a disc....Imagine it, 3 episodes and 1 extra disc with special features...Maybe every other realease, but not EVERY set...NUH UH! I'll take my sets just the way they are thanks...Hell i'm biting my fingers just worried about them canning the sets all together!

Yeah, the same way they fixed Merlin and Atomic Brain (for DVD, they knew of the problem from back when it was first released on video) and restored the missing riff in Home Economics Story...
We had to raise hell to get a Shrews fix and I'm freaking not going through this again, I'm tired of going on writing campaigns just to get a decent copy of an episode. I'm sick to death of this crap. Period!
This is my HARD EARNED MONEY they are taking and it is my right to choose NOT to give it to them anymore.
As for compression problems, that's a non issue, at 92 minutes an episode there's plenty of room for extras.
As to previewing the tapes. I'm not saying PAY us, hell I've volunteered toscreen these things for them for free.
Frankly I could care less if Rhino stops making them. At this point, the whole company can go screw themselves. I'm done playing this $#@! game!
It's my money and they no longer have earned the right to get it.
I AM FURIOUS YELLOW! I'm not putting anyone down who wants to support them and I'll respect your decision. But respect mine in kind.

Here's the kicker:
I haven't seen a lot of episodes. I was fairly new to the show, getting into it in the eighth or ninth season. Even when it was on TV, I usually got the channel changed on me while I was watching it (only one TV in the house with more than four channels don'tca know). When I saw Rhino boxed set number five, it rekindled my old love with the show, and spurred me to learn more about it, which ultimately caused me to join this board and be a part of the community. Rhino pretty much introduced me to Joel (I'd seen a few episodes with him in it before somehow). I owe Rhino a lot.
However,
Had I bought the episodes from volume eight before they were announced from Sky, it would've cost me somewhere in the ballpark of $15. And I would've gotten the exact same thing the boxed set gave me, just not in a box and with no nifty cover art. Sky says his master doesn't have the imperfections that Rhino's disk has. I agree with Mighty Jack that they don't seem to respect us very much, but at the same time, I have no idea what episodes will come out next, so unless I order the entire series from Sky (prohibitively expensive right now), I'm stuck with Rhino if I want to keep seeing new episodes.
Rhino has become my heroine dealer who keeps slipping me poision, but I still need them.

Dead Talk Back was the only ep I hadn't gotten to yet. I looked at the mentioned part, and the stuff that shows up is definitely tape blemishes - the kind that come up over time. The same kind I've seen on just about every comedy central DVD release, though at that particular part it's really bad. The show was filmed on a poopiety tape, and after ten years, you've got to expect some wear and tear. I don't see how you could blame BBI or Rhino for that. You can't "remaster" that video tape. As far as I can tell it's no screwup, but an issue of cruddy source material. It may very well be the best that exists. But never let common sense get in the way of a good Rhino bashing/boycott threat.

My previous statement was partly based in humor. No one should attempt to "compete" with Rhino and offer episodes that they have available. The commercial releases are how the folks who are responsible for this great show get paid for their efforts. Good sales of the commercial releases also might increase the possibility of the show going back into production.
