Hi there,
I don't know if you have ever heard of Mr. Oliver Kalkofe. He is a german comedian. He and his personal friend Oliver Welke wrote the translation script for the german release of MST3K-THE MOVIE. They also spoke the german voices for Tom and Crow.
In the latest newsletter from Kalkofes website he wrote, that MST3K-TM will be released on DVD in germany (until today, there is only a very rare VHS version). It will be released by "Universal", probably in early 2006. Kalkofe and Welke did a 75-minute interview, which might be included on the DVD as a special. Kalkofe also wrotes, that MST3K-TM is one of his works he is really proud of.
Here is the german quote from the newsletter:
8. Mystery Science Theater 3000

In my opinion, the german version is much better and funnier than the original english version. Kalkofe and Welke really have improved the movie alot! For example, when crow digs the hole to get to earth and he sings the song. In the german version he sings: " I dig a hole in our spaceshiiip I know, that is not smaaaart, who cares, as long as it's fun" or the end credits. They don't "just" make jokes about the names, they make jokes about the end credits itself. (From my memory:)While the end credits run: - I wonder why people always sit here and look at the end credits - Maybe they expect something important to happen - I have to go to the bathroom - Then go... - I can't, I'm afraid that something important happens... - (After a break) All people mentioned here are dead for a long time already - Or unemployed... - Or both... It's hilarious! I highly recommend the german version!

Is there any word on whether or not there will be an English audio track option? I have a multi-region DVD player, so I'd pick this up if there were some good extras (like the deleted scenes & alternate ending).

I wouldn't hold my breath for deleted scenes but if there's a new anamorphic transfer, well then wooo.

My brother lived in Germany for a few years and said it's his favourite place. He _loved_ it there. He says that if he had enough money, he'd move us all out to Berlin, or possibly Mannheim. (Not to be confused with the steamroller. ;))
...anyway. It's always interesting to see how our humour translates into different languages, since humour is one of THE most difficult things _to_ translate. Another good example would be my buddy on another forum who loves the Discworld books, but is from Brazil and has only read them in Portugese. How the _hell_ does Discworld of all things translate into Portugese? I mean, it's so very, very...British! But it does, somehow. (shrug)

I thought Crow was singing a WWI (allied) song, "Its a long way, to Tipararee (sp)..." No wonder the Germans changed it.
