Hey, does anybody know what the scoop is on the movie GORGO? Is this film owned by Toho? Toho's a Japanese company. Gorgo's not Japanese, it was made in England.

Sorry, skimmed over this. TRAVIS. DO NOT F@#KING CONTACT TOHO AGAIN! DICKWEED! Watch it. Besides, if Rhino didn't get proper rights to the episode, I'd rather have the studio told and the episode pulled from the set before it hits shelves, rather than have the entire set pulled afterwards. Single releases are one thing, but to lose four episodes because of a f*ck up with one is insane. So far Rhino hasn't done that, and I hope they won't in the near future. I'd personally like to see a replacement ep than a short shelf life.

Okay.... call me a puss, but chills actually went down my spine when I read that email message from Toho. Actually, my favorite riff from Godzilla vs Megalon went through my mind.... "It's a pity we can't kill you and get away with it..." Don't know why....

Anyone ever find out who the hell owns PUMA MAN? It was originally released by Cinema Shares in the US. I saw that message to, but how do we know that it is true? Toho could have rights to the Japanese version, but not the Sandy Frank American dubbed version. From what I understand is that Goodtimes is bankrupt and the rights to the Sandy Frank version are up in the air, so Rhino is taking advantage of that. But I would love to see it on vol. 10 b/c it would be a better copy of the mst3k version of it. But either way I have it in my dvd collection. Toho owns the Japanese version and the English dubbed version (it's their International dub, afterall), as well as the monster character designs themselves. And as gfanikf just said, SF had nothing to do with it. Travis, did you write back to Toho? If not, please don't... speaking only for myself, please don't.

Travis, did you write back to Toho? If not, please don't... speaking only for myself, please don't. I get the feeling it's too late for that... But if - AND ONLY IF - you do have an on-going e-mail discussion going with Toho, would you please tell them that MST3K fans are a small but determined group.... And that we'll not only boycott everything and anything they are connected with but will go out of our way to make their lives hell if they try to stop the release of G vs. MThank you.

A friend of mine contacted Goodtimes (who are now out of business). They said all of their movies were sold or liquidated when Gaiem bought them.
This means it's very likely that Rhino bought the rights from Goodtimes. Keep in mind I didn't contact Toho LA, so some part of Toho might know about this.
This doesn't mean it would be accepted by Toho as a legit transaction. But it IS a possibility.
Let's keep an open mind about this, shall we?
... I'd recommend everyone be emailing Universal though (about MST the movie).

Toho owns the Japanese version and the English dubbed version (it's their International dub, afterall) Is it? Or is is an American dub prepared by whoever released the film in the US first? I know many of the dubs we grew up with aren't the same as the international versions being released on DVD (ie, Godzilla vs. Hedora/Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster.) I know at the end of the day it's still Toho's ball they can pick up and take home at any time. I'm just not so sure they actually would own the US made dubs/edits. I don't think anyone else could release them without Toho's ok, but I'm pretty sure this is why we didn't get the "Save the Earth" song on Hedora.

You see, some US distributors chose not to create a new dub. Cinema Share's releases of Godzilla vs. Gigan ["Godzilla On Monster Island"], Godzilla vs. Megalon, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla ["Godzilla vs. Cosmic Monster"], and UPA's release of Terror of Mechagodzilla... all used Toho's international dubs. The Titra Studio dubs are great, it's a shame they couldn't be used for the recent DVDs.

So, clearly it is coming, provided there are no road blocks. One of my favorite quotes is "never look a gift horse in the mouth", I think that applies here.

Well, at this point it's clear that either the damage has been done or it hasn't. And all we can do is wait and see. So let's change the subject.
