I just found out about this, and I am completly amazed.
I wonder...if Rick Sloane was the one who sent the Brains the original Hobgoblins, maybe he contancted the Film Crew about doing a commentary track on this one? A long shot, but I have my fingers crossed.

I didn't know this for a while either.
Wow, what the flapjacks? How is that movie popular other than by MST3K? What the point of making this movie?

God help me, I know I'd buy the DVD if it had a Film Crew commentary, despite the pain of paying money for something Rick Sloane did.

I'm sure it'll make a hell of a lot more money than the original. If someone is making this movie for the purpose of money, they've got to be the biggest jackass in the world. Did the original make a dime besides gaining some licencing money when it was sold to MST3K? Since MST3K is gone, this movie has no purpose to being made since it won't draw poopie.

At the site of this, I dropped a bowl of delicious Flan Custard. And believe me when I say it takes ALOT for me to drop my Flan out of such surprise... Did Servo kick Sloan in the shin AGAIN?!

They probably figure they can make a few bucks off of the original's new "cult" status. Of course, I think they'll be largely mistaken. But still, if you're a relatively small movie company, you'll probably take whatever stabs at moneymaking that you can. And people are stupid. That's another reason, right there.

I'm still firmly convinced that Rick Sloane is the next anti-Christ, and he makes movies because he's trying to kill off humanity.

I still think he's overrated as a bad-movie director.

I don't see what about Hobgoblins 2 would make it worse than normal direct to video far (excluding the DCAU Batman movies). Pretty much everything in the original Hobgoblins was ahead of it's time...for sitting on the shelf where a bunch of other cheap flicks do the same.
I'm happy Rick Sloane found a suitable place for his talents.
