Not much to say, so on with the game!
Here are the rules again:
You watch POD PEOPLE or you remember it from last time, whatever.
You rate said episode using a 1 to 10 rating. 1 being, "This episode totally sucks! It is so bad it physically hurt me!" and 10 being "One of the best episodes I’ve ever seen in my life!”
Then you tell me and everyone reading this post why that episode deserves that rating, whether it be good or bad. Go into as much or as little detail as you want, but more is always more entertaining.
And if you want to rate the short separately from the movie, like I’m doing, feel free. I'll go first:
POD PEOPLE: I must say, aside from MST3K: THE MOVIE, this is the best episode to show to people who have never seen the show before. Almost all the host segments are based on the movie, which is really funny sometimes, and the riffs are not rapid fire and don’t have too many references to other episodes, so they are easier to get. The one problem is that the movie might be too bad for some people, that’s why I like MST3K: THE MOVIE better for newbs, the movie is very watchable. But still, who can’t love Trumpy, he’s hilarious. All in all, a good episode, and a classic from anyone’s standard. 9 out of 10.
See? Easy!
Next week, I don’t know, how about WEREWOLF. I hope to see you there. -al27

I know I'm in the minority here but I thought it was pretty boring. I didn't totally suck. Just did'nt keep my attention well. The "Idiot Control, Now" host segment was funny as hell though.
I'd give it a 5.

I did the discussion game a couple of weeks ago that featured this episode. I am kinda neutral on it still. It gets better each time I see it, but I am still not there with all those folks who think it's one of the best. The song is great and seeing TV's Frank in an "I'm a Virgin" T-shirt always gives me a laugh. I agree that some of the host segments and the riffing is among the best the show has to offer. The take off on the awful song and riffing on Trumpy's calling everything in the kids bedroom a delicious potato is funny. However, why a group of young people would go off on a rainy weekend in the moutains for a picnic is beyond me. I don't live in the Pacific Northwest so forgive me if this is a bit of a stretch for me. I also can't figure out the relationship between all the people in that awful house. Is the kid living with his aunt and uncle? Are they, god forbid, his parents? Nobody seems to upset when someone dies. Its all foggy and creepy and disjointed and seems to be three separate movies spliced together. What is the deal with egg theives? Are cuckoo eggs particularly rare and valuable? I really didn't care about anyone in this movie and I hate that "Euro" special effect begining with the blurry meteor. It doesn't add anything to the movie at all and like with Cave Dwellers, doesn't even seem to be about the same movie. Do European's like this sort of thing? Wha?
Anyway, I give this episode a good solid - 4 -

I tried showing this to some mst3k virgins a few weeks ago. They got up and left about 25 minutes into it.
It starts veeeerrrrryyy sloooowly. The riffing humor doesn't pick up until after the first host segment.
Still, it's one of my all time favorite episodes. The host segments are some of the best ever, and when the riffing does pick up, it's classic. "A nice furry potato".
Two months ago I would have given it a 10. Today, it's a 7.5.#nosmileys

The film itself is pretty boring and really doesn't have a whole lot of classic riff lines in it. However, the hosting segments are among the best. From the public domain karoke machine the Mads invented to Clowns in the Sky (a song so good they named not one, but three MST3K CDs after it) they are the best of the Joel era aside from Manos. The song Idiot Control still sparks debate about what's actually being said (even though there are lyrics online in several places.)
Overall rating: 5.7 of 10.

Pod People. Craptacular movie,Great episode. What you have you here is basically a crappy ET ripoff fused with a crappy alien horror movie and add a few bad songs for good measure which gives Joel and his companions some easy fire to work with. Now I will admit that it does get a little slow near the end but other then that I can find few negative things about this episode . It also has one of my favorite MST3K songs ever, "Idiot Control Now". I'll give this one a 9.5.
Fav Riffs Joel-Hey check it out it's the dude from Iron Maiden
Joel-Oh no the Easter Bunny is mad
Servo-Somebody hit this kid with a sledgehammer

It stinks!
Sorry, please don't shun me, I know it's a pretty popular one, but I can't stand it. I give it a 3.
Where do I start? It starts sooooo slow. The kids voice makes me want to drive nails into my eardrums just to make it stop, Trumpy's nose attachment seems to be the biggest special effect they have. None of the characters are remarkable in their badness. It's a bunch of people loitering in the woods. The only thing that really makes me laugh is TV's Frank in the virgin shirt. I love that! I will watch Castle of Fu Manchu before I will watch this one.

I love it, simply for it's nostalgic value. I laughed my ass of at it when I was 12, and it's still funny now, at almost 21. Rating: 10 www.atorsmst3ksite.com/ep303.html

Even given the problems the movie brings to the table, and the dark, foggy sets, lack of continuity, plausible story lines, motivation, etc, the songs make it work. And even though some of the riffing was not up to par most of the in-theatre humer rocked. "They came to earth to steal bi-focals" ... "This guy has RenFest written all over him ... huzzah!!". Overall: 8.27
