the trailer for "Flight 93" is out at apple.com, and I can't bring myself to watch it. and then you have the Oliver Stone "World Trade Center" bs. for me, I feel like it might be a little too soon, but I feel more offended by the fact that these people are going to be making money off of memories that are a little too fresh in people's minds. your thoughts?

in some respects I think they do, but by creating a semi-fictional account of something significant that happened? it would be different if the film were a documentary.

Oliver Stone's World Trade Center is about the last two people (police officers I believe) to be found alive in the WTC remains, Nicholas Cage plays one of them.

I think "United 93" will be the best movie this year. It looks like a true memorial to th crew and passengers. I'm just ticked off at the country I'm living in (Latvia) and really all of Europe for the fact that they are either a. not showing it or b. showing it several months after it's American release. Cowards, they may see that America does have an excuse to go to war.

I just watched The Hamburg Cell yesterday. For the most part I thought it was well done and did its best to avoid any moralizing. I've read some people say that the movie humanized the hijackers, but isn't it true that the sickest minds still have to get through the day like the rest of us? It's hard to tell their story without getting into their background. It did a good job showing how antiseptic and thorough these guys were. If anything, it did a good job in showing how de-humanized the hijackers became. Clearly they were all nuts. Unfortunately, it wasn't the kind of benign insanity that passes itself off as eccentricity, instead they became hell-bent on mass murder.

I saw the trailer for Flight 93 when they played it on MSNBC's Countdown. I might see the movie, but the trailer shook me up terribly. However, I will not go to see Oliver Stone's film only because I really hate him.

with time?
there's more of a chance that the events 'place' in history can be more accurately articulated with the assistance of history's lens.
at present?
we use art to master our trauma.
I'm doing an independent project for my Master's degree on post-9/11 literature, focusing mainly on Jonathan Safran Foer's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and Art Spiegelman's In the Shadow of No Towers.
Honestly, I don't think anything about 9/11 can be made responsibly at the moment, but that current texts are important and valid as they better capture the raw emotion of it all.

Have you read the Deborah Eisenberg story in her new collection (that just came out). You might want to add that to your reading list. As for me I'm not happy about these movies and couldn't handle seeing them. Too close to home. I was in Manhattan that day and thought for a while my girlfriend (future wife) might be dead (she worked within a few blocks of the trade center). I'm pretty pissed about this but then I'm not rational at all when it comes to this subject...

I'm sure all european countries should just close their movie theaters and just show united 93 in all their movie theaters.

I wouldn't know in europe, but at least in Mexico and others its pretty hit or miss. A movie could open that same week or it could open months after the release. It definitely isn't because of cowardice.

Where was all this "too soon, too soon" outrage when Fahrenheit 9/11 hit theaters? I bet the same ones who are screaming "too soon" now lined up to see F-9/11 a couple times.
United 93, on the other hand, sounds like the perfect movie for anyone prepared to face the reality of our enemy. If this does not apply to you, I think it's high time you saw it.
