I also think the Hitler building was one of the funniest things of MST3K ever. That's where I disagree. The Hitler Building is not one of the funniest things on MST3K, it's one of the funniest things to ever grace this planet. Sure, the riffs are terrific, but it's so much more. Not only does this one moment make it blatantly appearant they're using stock footage, but had they bothered to watch the film in the editing room for that measily 3 seconds, they would have caught it and said "Whoops!" And not even the American distributers saw it either! That's why I have encased it in my signature, as a shrine to this fine moment of comedy. Sure, I've experimented with other signatures, but I always seem to work my way back to it. It's just like my John-Rhys Davies avatar, which is taking a little vacation, but I'm sure it will make it's triumphant return.

You know what's funny? This is a Superman thread that deviates into discussing Space Chef...... ;D
Is Invasion of the Neptune Men more exciting than Superman Returns? The world may never know.

This is my opinion, you can tell hollywood decided to do this movie because of the huge sucess Batman Begins got! I say this because they are kind of similar.

Actually, relaunching the Superman franchise has been in works long before Batman Begins was released (and filming on Superman Returns had also already started months before that release), although the financial success of most superhero movies in the past 6 or so years did play a part in getting this movie made.

Right I remember hearing years ago Nicholas Cage was going to star and Tim Burton direct....never happened.

Yeah, the Superman revamp was in the works even when the last Batman franchise was still going on. It just ran over quite a few speed bumps.

I heard about the nerdy kevin smith script and that tim burton jazz, but I didn't know it was being worked on before batman. I'm glad they didn't do the Burton/Smith thing! Tim Burton hates kevin smiths work! (yay! so do I!) Here's a personal quote by Burton:
Way to go Tim!! If the smith script would have been made, it probably would have been a nerdfest in the theaters, along with some gothic/emo people there too because of Burton would make it kind of dark and weird.

TIm Burton and Kevin Smith have had a sort of feud going on for years. I think it started when Kevin Smith ridiculously claimed the ending of Burton's Planet of the Apes re-imagining was ripped off from one of his comic book. So I'm not surprised Burton states he never read one of Smith's comics - it has plagarism implications to say otherwise. (Although I believe him - I mean who actually reads Smith's comic anyway?)

Why in the world would Smith be claiming that sh*thole of an ending as his own? Besides, the idea was actually taken from the original Pierre Boulle novel, it was just so warped by the time travel concept and "Thade on Earth?!?!" that it made absolutly no sense.
As for Smith vs. Burton, it's not even close for me. Smith's films amuse me far more than Burton's do. Burton had a few gems like Beetlejuice, but other than that, he has failed to impress me. I can see why he has his fanbase, because his style holds appeal, but his film quality usually lacks.

Am I the only one who thinks Kevin Smith is overrated and not all that funny? There are a fair few who would. But Kevin Smith is more of an aquired taste. I myself find my life revolving a lot around the concepts he put forth in his first few movies more than once, and find them spot on.
