Not a review, but a MSTie comment: In "Hollywood After Dark" the grinning thug visits the junk yard guy, and pseudo-threatens him by saying, "I know where you live, I know you got a wife, and you ain't makin' a dime in this place," or something like that.
The wife never figures in the plot, especially as it might figure in the romance that buds between junk yard man and Rue McClanahan. I think the writers simply forgot she was ever mentioned.
Huh.

Just watched both HOD and KFS in the last couple of days. I have one question before I comment on them.
Were these done before Mike started Rifftrax? The copyright at the end of HOD says 2005. If not, I'm curious how far into Rifftrax he was when they taped these Film Crew releases. Anyone know?

Road House was darn close to the first RiffTrax release--it was released on 7/21/06.
BTW, Mike's first Legeng Films commentary was for Reefer Madness, which was released in 04/20/04.

Well, it was great to see them back at it and both episodes were enjoyable. It was weird to hear Kevin and Bill's voices coming out of thier real bodies. I didn't really have a problem with the sketches. They seemed pretty comparable to many of the MST sketches, . Whoever it was that said 'Just close your eyes and it sounds like an MST host segment' was absolutely right.
That being said, I was a little disappointed with the riffing. I suppose I was expecting it to be on the same level as Rifftrax. I thought the ten or so Rifftrax I've listened to were a bit better. Initially I didn't realize that these were done before Rifftrax. That makes sense to me after watching these Film Crews. I'm guessing they'll get better as they go along.
Of the two, I would definitely be in the camp that preferred Hollywood After Dark.. A few hilarious moments and lots of chuckles compared to a few chuckles here and there from Killers From Space. Still, I can't wait for more!

Another TV Crew DVD release, another TV Crew DVD review. I've givng up calling them the "Film Crew" as they don't reference enough movies to earn the name. They know television though. And lots of it.
Wild Women of Wongo. The movie? Think Manos with less plot. It's even shot in the same sort of colorless color called Pathecolor. The acting? Boils down to "What?!", "Dance!" and the usual inarticulate grunts that you would expect from women in Florida. The script? No, really, where's the script? Nothing happens during this movie that isn't covered in the cave paintings during the opening credit sequence. All in all, a good bad experience.
Now for the riffing. Since the TV Crew can't rest their laurels on the easy Golden Girls or Biography/Mission Impossible riffs, they have to stretch their minds to the very limit of their vast movie knowledge to riff on Survivor, the Simpsons and the Crocodile Hunter {That joke did not age well. Crikey indeed}. This was a step up over the first two releases but that could be just because the movie was pretty funny in a twisted 50s kind of way. Recommended viewing 3.5/5.
Watch out for Snakes, Aligators and Parrots! {The TV Crew did not say that but they should have.}

Wild Women of Wongo:
I was disappointed with the movie, in that I consider it more of a "bad bad" movie than a "good-bad" movie, if you catch my meaning. Just so bad it's no fun.
The riffing was okay on the first viewing, but the film was so slow and plodding that I thought it was a bit of a bring-down from "Hollywood After Dark". But additional viewings always bring the ratings up, so we'll see.
If you had any thoughts that the movie would have a high cheesecake factor, I believe you will be gravely disappointed. "Spider Island" this ain't.
The extra feature ("Make Mike Dance" etc.) was great silly fun. I didn't see it coming, and I giggled myself silly. Must watch the movie first. You can't have any pudding if you don't eat your meat.

I finally got Killers From Space. Who would have thought that a movie could be this drawn out and boring?
The riffing wasn't that hot during the first half, but they tried to kick it up a notch in the second. Nowhere near Hollywood After Dark, though.
I enjoyed the first and last host segments though. Bill punching Mike at the end was the biggest laugh of the entire show.

Just ordered the first 3 from deepdiscount.com. I held off for a while but everyone's comments helped me decide. Can't wait to see them.

I watched "Wild Women of Wongo" last night. Thought the movie (and the riffing) started off relatively slow but picked up about a quarter of the way through. Top notch from that point forward.

I too watched Wild Women of Wongo this weekend. Definitely more laughs for me than Killers From Space but not quite as many as Hollywood after Dark.
Any more word on whether they're going to be making more of these?

Finally saw Hollywood After Dark and Killers From Space! As a huge fan of the Mike/Kevin/Bill years of MST3K, I felt like they were right on target. I agree it's kinda weird to see Bill Corbett without the white Brain Guy makeup, but that's the only real adjustment (and the fact their a little older).
I think HAD edges out KFS in terms of laughs, but it's mainly because HAD had more to work with. But Mike, Kevin and Bill sure haven't lost anything as far as I'm concerned.
The segments are okay...I see potential for them to get better (I did like the sketch about KFS regarding the extreme close-ups).
Haven't seen Wild Women of Wongo yet, I'll save that for next weekend.

Personally, I thought that Wild Women of Wongo was the best of the bunch so far. Granted, the movie itself was just idiotic...even bordering on annoying with those stupid parrots, but the riffing was TOP NOTCH! Several laugh-out-loud moments that I just didn't have with KFS or HAD.
The host segments still suck. I think the guys are still writing material for a puppet show, and it just doesn't work with them as themselves. You could always laugh when the bots did stupid stuff, or took things too literally, because they were kinda like kids, but it doesn't translate to the Film Crew format. They need to play it a bit straighter, I think, and go for more intelligent laughs and less slapstick weirdness.
