Posted a new review for Wild Women of WongoThough I don't know why I even write these things anymore. I am so far removed from the rest of ya'll that my opinions aren't going to matter or reflect the general view. Hell, Killers was the funniest for me so far. Ah well.

Don't stop reviewing MJ, your reviews are some the best around. Even when I don't agree with them (The Incredibly Strange Creatures was great by the way ;D). I look forward to them all the time, keep up the great work.

I recently got Killers From Space and Wild Women of Wongo and watched them in that order. I think the reason they only riffed on Peter Graves' Biography and not any of the MST3K movies he was in is because they are doing something new, something not related to MST3K. They also didn't mention that the one scientist played by Frank Gerstin in KFS was also in The Atomic Brain and San Fransicso International. This is new stuff, a new scenario, and new characters. The Bob Honcho setup works for me, and I enjoyed the host segments.
I then found a copy of Hollywood After Dark and watched that last night. I noticed that some people earlier in the thread were a bit disappointed, but were hopeful that the next volumes would be better. But do we know what order these shows were produced in? I mean, they're being released in this order because of voting, so the release order has nothing to do with production order. HAD might have been produced last for all we know.
Anyway, I'm not comparing these to MST3K CC era or SF era. This is new and I'm taking it on it's own merits. I found myself laughing out loud several times, so the show has done it's part. I'm going to buy myself a work shirt and get my Film Crew patch sewn onto it as well as my name. That's how much I liked them.

This has nothing to do with the movie, really, but I wish I had Peter's car from Killers From Space. It's a 1953 Studebaker Commander Starlight hardtop couple. It's one of the most beautiful American cars ever built.
For esoteric references for TFC movies, I have one to contribute, also from Killers From Space: We see the other doctor, played by Frank Gersten, driving around in his car, and Mike says "He made a nice car out of his bathtub." He's driving an early to mid-50s Nash Aeroflyte. It was nicknamed the "Upside-down bathtub" because the envelope body completely wrapped around the car, including the front wheels, making it look like an upside-down bathtub.

So do it or don't, but enjoy it either way!

I almost forgot what I came here to say -- On repeat viewings, I think Wongo gets better and better. A good installment IMO.

In the order I watched them and--oddly enough--the order I liked them:
Wild Women of Wongo - Pretty good riffing I thought. Maybe my opinion is colored by it being the first I saw, but this episode seemed really good to me. The host segments were a bit weak but felt a lot like something from MST3K. Somehow I think the skits would have worked better if performed by puppets than middle aged men. Kevin, especially, is made to come off quite goofy. If Servo showed Mike a fantasy land island map, believing it was real, that would seem in character (and make sense--the bots have never left the SOL). From Kevin, however, it feels awkward and silly.
Giant of Marathon - A step down from WWoW for me. The riffing was okay but a lot of it involved gay jokes, which got a bit stale. This episode, however, probably contained the best host segments. Mike’s racist rants on the bonus material seemed genuinely funny to me.
Hollywood After Dark - Probably has a slight edge up on GoM with the riffs, but there are definitely slow parts. The dancing scenes in particular dragged on so long Mike et all seemed to run out of things to say. The host segments were just plain awful.
Killers from Space - This was kind of a let down for me. The cover art and pictures led me to believe the movie itself was going to be hilarious, but actually it's pretty boring. The googly-eyed aliens barely factor into it. We're talking a Monster A-Go-Go quality film. Which, of course, makes the riffing tough. They lay into Peter Graves pretty heavy, which is sometimes funny, but very familiar from MST3K episodes. The host segments were okay, at least better than in HAD.

According to my thread over on Shout! Factory, there might be hope for The Film Crew to become a TV series: We're looking into getting the boys back on the air. There are just a number of factors that go into it. Everyone should keep their fingers crossed. It could happen. Brian Very exciting news!

The thread I started was about the possibility of having The Film Crew become a TV series and have Shout! Factory release the episodes on DVD. It doesn't matter to me. As long as more come out, I'm happy. I just like the idea that if it's on TV, a new one will come out every week instead of every month.

Giant of Marathon - Second try at watching and I was super pleased. This is my favorite of the bunch. Goofy movie that gave the boys many opportunities and they took full advantage. Even the bonuses were good. "A+" effort.

Even the bonuses were good. "A+" effort. I have to agree. I watched it this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it, with many laugh-out-loud moments. I'm planning on re-watching the other three over the next week, but I'm pretty sure that "Giant..." will remain my favorite of the bunch.
