Just thought I'd start a vinyl appreciation thread. I've been collecting vinyl since sometime around '98. There was a time when I had twice as many LPs as I had CDs, but these days my CDs have caught up and I have about 1,500 of each. Though I've slowed down a bit on my record collecting, it's no doubt that I just love 'em. I'm one of those who can't hear a difference between records and CDs, or mp3s or what have you. I just love music and i find it to be tons of fun on vinyl. Anyhow, I kinda started this thread so that I, and hopefully others as well, could kinda brag about cool records. So here it goes! I just got Wilco's A.M. on CD yesterday. I've had it on vinyl for some time. It's a red disc in a clear plastic sleeve. Out of casual curiosity, I thought I'd see if there were any copies of the LP to be had on ebay and what kind of price it fetched. I was blown away! A little bit ago one sold at a buyitnow price of $125! Another recently sold at auction for almost $80! Whoa. That ranks this LP as one of my most valuable. I think I it was priced at $5 at work when I bought it. Which, thanks to my discount, means I probably paid $2 for it!

I like the sound of my LPs, but what I really like is having the classic album art in full size. I'd buy a lot more records if I actually had my own turntable, but I don't at this time.

My dad, being born in '47, has a ton of vinyl from the 60's which is absolutely fantastic to me. I love rummaging around through the boxes and boxes of them. I, myself, don't really collect too much vinyl, but on my wall here in my dorm I have an Alice Donut album and Man or Astro-Man? LP proudly displayed on one of my walls. The art is so interesting on them, which is half the reason I bought them, and it's a nice way to cover up some white cinderblock walls.

I bought a lot of vinyl for a while, until my record player stopped working. Now I've finally got one again so I'm starting to pick up some more.
I'm another one who likes having full size album art. There are also some cases (such as the Minutemen's Double Nickles On The Dime 2xLP) where they can't even fit the whole thing on a CD.

I've still got a fair amount of vinyl. 300 or so. And I agree that it's better but it also has pops, clicks, skips and surface noise. I do think a replacement for vinyl was inevitable but I don't think digital was really ready. I've lately been converting some LPs to CD and even the records that are in good shape still need some cleaning up.

I have a whole lot of vinyl. I used to save my lunch money from school and buy records instead. I must have about 200 or so albums, maybe more with what my Mom has too. I actually found a store that sells vinyl around here but haven't checked it out yet.

I want to get one of those little VW Minibuses that drives around a record and plays the music through its own speaker. Of course I'd only use it on records in poor condition, but it would be pretty hilarious to watch! The Sound Wagon!

The only vinyl i've got is rare electronic stuff that was only released on 12". Love the way it sounds on vinyl.

So, anybody got a record they wanna brag about?
One of my favorites to brag about is my Elvis Sun 45. It's the Milkcow Blues Boogie / You're a Heart Breaker single. It's in pretty poor shape with lots of surface noise, but it plays all the way through and the labels are quite nice except for a little tear. I bought it at the store where I work before I worked there for $3. It's hard to say what it's worth without actually selling it. I've guessed at $600, but I could be way off. Conservatively though, I think it could fetch over a hundred dollars.
At the same time I bought a big stack of Elvis' original RCA singles many with picture sleeves in very good condition for $1-3 each. I haven't tried looking all those up, but those pic sleeves can be worth loads even without the 45 inside! For the whole collection I spent $60 and I got something like 25 singles.
I'm not interested in selling them at this point. I just love owning them and the fact that I got them for a steal!

Yesterday I got a Jesus Lizard LP from the local store. I like them, they're small and cheap, and I can decorate my wall with them.

At one point I actually had two and when i fell on hard times the extra copy came in well handy. Not really anything big or important in terms of the history of music but I'm well chuffed i own this! i have quite a few other rare things, they're just not on vinyl. Providing Needles For Your Balloons by The Flaming Lips and The Cocteau Twins singles box from '91 come to mind.

I like the sound of vinyl. I have about 400 LPs, a hundred 45 singles and a couple dozen CDs, most of which I found at thrift stores and specialty shops. A lot of my records are from the 60s and 70s: psychedelic rock, soul, reggae, funk, jazz, soundtracks to B-movies. I have some old blues and traditional music, as well. I like finding weird stuff too: non-descript recordings of school bands, music from small countries, self-pressed independently made albums and so forth.

I love finding records like that. My favorite recent discovery is a compilation of Greek rebetic music from the '20s and '30s. It's basically Greek outsider music with its roots in Turkey. I have another favorite singer thanks to that LP: Marika Papagika. She's mesmerizing. I'm sad there are only two tracks with her on them. I'm currently trying to track down a compilation of her recordings.

A lot of the records shown on there, namely the "international" section, might be up your alley
