Merry Christmas, Johnny Mathis. The whole thing. Greatest Christmas album ever. Is there a song about how he breaks into John Saxon's house at Christmas time?

i'm listening to the brian setzer orchestra dig that crazy christmas right now as i type this. i don't have setzer's other christmas cd, but i really like this one. the instrumental stuff is really, really great. i love any kind of big band christmas music, as well. the charlie brown christmas music is always a big fave with me, too. elton john's step into christmas - wham's last christmas - john lennon's happy christmas - and almost all of the other songs i've read on this thread. there is a version of ava maria done by chris cornell that just blows my mind - his voice is just astounding in that song. and the two christmas songs i positively loathe are grandma got run over by a reindeer and that christmas shoes song. bah humbug!

I heard a re-make of that "Wonderful Christmastime" song. A little better, but not much.
On a positive note though, my mom has this Celtic Women album, and I think it's a Christmas one. I love their voices, they're so beautiful, and I'm so jealous that I can't sing well.

I'm going to have to go with an old standard here. I've always enjoyed "Good King Wenceslas."
For a more modern feel, "Mister Hankey's Christmas Classics" is a great album.

I just heard an awesome rendition of "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," done by Rockapella. While the background vocals of "You're a mean one, you are not nice" are a little odd, Barry Carl's baritone is perfect for the song, especially since he sounded a little like Thurl Ravenscroft when portraying certain characters during his tenure on Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?.

It's not Christmas time until I hear "Blue Christmas" by Elvis.
Seriously.
OK then I like big choral productions of Christmas Carols preferably done by an English Choir and music.
I think "Celtic" especially "Scottish" Christmas music is totally BOGUS and modern! The Irish were too poor to celebrate Christmas and it was a religious day anyway. No self-respecting Scot would ever be caught DEAD celebrating an ENGLISH holiday. Scots celebrate New Years.
To bookend this rant. I also really really like "Fairytale of New York" by the Pogues. Now that's Christmas for you!
