Just watched "Doomsday Machine" this afternoon.
I really enjoyed it. I thought the various "improvements" helped, I preferred this outing over "the Oozing Skull." I 've tried to watched OS 3 times but I just find the movie itself too lousy to enjoy the whole package. I know it takes a couple of viewings for some to get past the bad movie, but I've given that one 3 tries and so far it's still a drag.
I agree with almost all the smaller comments others have posted about "Doomsday Machine". The title riffs were pretty dreary. But by the middle of the flick they were firing on all cylinders and sounded pretty comfortable. I liked the intro stuff about not using robots anymore.
Not bad!

Doomsday Machine Well I got tired of waiting for the DVD in the mail so CT made some money offa me 'cause I now have the download and the DVD. This movie is awful. Just terrible. If it wasn't for the Titans riffing, watching this thing would have been unbearable. Bob3K, I agree with you completely: I like Cheesy movies, not Terrible ones! I sincerely hope this is not the path CT has chosen to go down. For me the dividing point on watching a bad picture is if the producers were trying to do the best they could with what they had or they just treated the whole thing with utter contempt. It is by far the worst Sci-Fi movie I have ever seen them do, MST3K, Rifftrax and Film Crew included. This film exudes a contempt for the target audience that I have never before seen in a movie. I can almost see and hear a group of ugly old men in a room smoking huge cigars about 1967 saying something like, "Well Murray, what kind of crap do those stupid hippy kids want to watch nowadays? They like that Space crap don't they? What can we get for about 20 thou? Jesus, I hate this s**t!" I didn't find it so bad it was funny. It pissed me off. It was a struggle not to give the screen the finger and turn it off, even with the efforts of the Titans. I did go to Jabootu's site and was amazed at the density of inconsistencies and blatant ripoffs of other films packed into this, this THING. If you'd like to read it here is a link: www.jabootu.com/doomsday.htm

Finally got my copy yesterday and watched it... Part way through, I realized that I've seen this film before. I think it aired on AMC last year. Back then, I TiVoed it and it took days to make it all the way through. I could only take about 10 minutes at a time before the soul crushing boredom forced me to turn it off. Then there's the ending. Wow. I was reminded of the "They Just Didn't Care" skit from Invasion of the Eye Creatures. It was like the producers said, "You sat through 90 minutes of nothing happening in the desperate hope that there would be some sort of payoff. Well, screw you!" Honestly, it was like the series finale of Enterprise which revealed the whole thing was just a computer program watched by two Next Generation characters between the scenes of a minor episode of their show. You can physically feel the contempt for the audience oozing out of the screen. As to the CT version...I have to say, it was still hard to sit through. Not a good choice for riffing. For the final 20 minutes, nothing happens. Nothing! Sure, you can mock the fact that there's nothing happening, but you can only keep that up for so long. MST3K riffed other movies that were, in their original form, boring. However, those films had some other quality which could be exploited. Manos had Torgo. Beast of Yucca Flats had nonsensical narration. This film...just sat there. It was like watching a "how-to-type" instructional movie, which showed nothing but fingers on keys while a Ben Stein-like narrator droned on about proper finger positions. You've got about a minute of jokes, but then it just drags. Compare this to Oozing Skull. Al Adamson had a deformed giant, a midget, brain switching, girls in dungeons...there was always something going on. He knew he was making a drive-in movie. For God's sake, look at Dracula VS Frankenstein. That one started as a biker picture. When he realized it wasn't working, he didn't just shrug and plod on, he tossed in Dracula and Frankenstein! If he had been doing Doomsday Machine, he would have thrown up his hands and declared, "This isn't working. Somebody get me a monster costume. Hell, I'll settle for a gorilla costume! We'll make it a space gorilla. Yeah, that's it! And find me a midget!" *sigh* Anywho, just so this review isn't totally negative, I will say that I liked the new intro. I'm also glad that they finally included a dvd case. Oh, and the autographed card was a nice touch, too. Hopefully, they'll stick to fun stuff like The Wasp Woman in the future. *I'll probably revisit this film at some point in the future. Hopefully, it won't seem quite as disappointing. Initially, I didn't like Skydivers, but it later grew on me. Maybe that will be the case with Doomsday Machine.

I absolutely loved this release. I didn't buy The Oozing Skull but now I might have to. The first thirty minutes or so was puuuuure hilarity. But what an awful movie. I agree with Frank when he said they were awarding the movie the Manos award. I barely understood the ending. So, the spaceship with the other actors was destroyed and the one with the new actors was sent off into space? Or something like that?
At any rate, I love Cinematic Titanic much more than The Film Crew. I will take their cheesy puns like "I just need to vent" and "Now, that's a switch" any day.

My son and I just got through and we absolutely loved it. What a mind-numbingly awful excuse for a movie. The riffing starts off a bit slow but after twenty minutes or so the humor just flows. We both just died at the amazing ending. Bravo! Two thumbs up!

I got my copy a few days ago and I thought it was really good. It was a lot better than Oozing Skull...the riffs were more risque (which I love), and the movie was a bit more watchable. But only a bit...that last 15 minutes or so hurt. Why anyone thought that was appropriate for a film is beyond me, but the Titans handled it beautifully. As great as this release was, I'm kinda hoping they have some more watchable films in the future. I appreciate Manos bad, but I don't watch Manos every six weeks for a reason, so I hope they're not all like that. Also, I think there's room for a lot more riffs. With five people, it could get cluttered very quickly, but I'm still really aware of dead spots that shouldn't be there. But ultimately it was a solid release. I loved the new introduction, and hopefully they'll elaborate on that a bit more. I look forward to seeing more!

I just watched "Doomsday Machine" again and I really enjoyed it. I appreciated the way they introduced the premise. It will be interesting to see if they expand upon it in future episodes.
The riffing was very good, and the skits were a little better than the ones in Oozing Skull. I do agree that the title riffs were kind of weak and forced-sounding. Fortunately, once the action started (what action, ha ha), the gang settled into a great groove. I especially enjoyed the Casey Kasem riffs.
My favorite riffs:
"And remember, tomorrow is T Minus Taco Tuesday." "I guess the gravity machine is set to Dangle!" "It's mock Soylent Green." "I can't believe it's not people."
All in all, a very enjoyable episode. Bring on the next one!

Doomsday Machine was great and was a tad better than Oozing Skull.
BUT........not as good as Wasp Women, which based on what I saw when they riffed that in Dallas, was the best one thus far!

I just watched Doomsday Machine again, this time with Mrs. Atari, and I feel like I should amend my review.
The stiff script reading problem I mentioned before is really isolated to the first 20 minutes or so. Once the film shifts to the spaceship, the riffing seems much more seamless. In fact, that middle hour of the movie, while they're on the ship, is the funniest stuff I've heard from any of the Brains since season 8 of the show.
Yes, the ending of the film was very painful. And even though that section felt like it took forever, it was only about 10 minutes of screen time. On the second viewing, it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the "episode" at all.
I would put it on par with any of the space drama episodes of the show. Easily as good as "Rocketship X-M", "First Spaceship on Venus", or "12 to the Moon", which are all personal favorites. The whole thing had the feel of a vintage Joel ep, but with Frank & Mary Jo in the theater, to boot.
My favorite part: as the men start to realize why the government sent the women to the ship and they begin to pair off. This led to some of the funniest riffs I've heard in years.

i really enjoyed DM. i liked the oozing skull okay - i was all high on it after the first time i watched it, but i never went back for more after the second viewing and that second time was a little difficult to get through. i know it's a total girly thing to admit to, but even though i knew the blood was quite obviously fake, i was a little grossed out by that. i know, that's lame. DM had a better flow to it, as far as riffs. i thought they were on fire once the credits were over, and especially once the crew was up in space. if they could keep my interest in those last few painful minutes of the movie, they are definitely on to something. i know i'll watch DM repeatedly, and i'm not sure how often i'll go back to TOS.

I enjoyed Oozing Skull, but found many issues with it.
With Doomsday Machine I feel that CT has finally hit their stride. The intro was EXACTLY what I've been asking for. Sure, I wish they'd do more at the end, but what they had there was brilliant.
I loved all the MST callback riffs. Especially the "robot with a gumball machine for a head" reference. ;-)
The riffing felt a lot stronger to me than on Skull, and I found the movie to be pure cheesey scifi goodness. It was like watching a train wreck... an immensely entertaining trainwreck.
The ending did drag, and was a bit of a wtf. I get that the movie was finished by someone else years later, but had they lost the original script? (Or maybe there was no script and they were making it up as they went? Because it really felt that way!)
The laz-e-boys and the cathedral ceilings were really odd, but I found the rainbow set lighting to be the most bizzarre design decision of all. (I don't think the Titans ever commented on it though :-( )
Also, the randomly changing ship models were hilarious. As was the use of stock footage that HAD THE EARTH IN IT after the Earth had been destroyed!
Hilarious, and I am very much looking forward to more from Cinematic Titanic now. :-)
I give this one an A.

After watching The Wasp Woman I can say that for me its the best CT episode yet. Its definitely the quality of the movie that helps it along. Sure its a Corman film, but a Corman film is leagues above the previous two films in terms of craftsmanship. The riffing was helped by this and I'm certainly glad for that. Lots of good riffs and no reliance on self-referential humor (that I can remember) this time out like Doomsday Machine, which is a plus.
Host segments were okay. Nothing spectacular. They're so short and non-descript you really won't notice them (other than one particular thing which I note below).
The only spoiler I will mention is that there is some unexpected cursing going on. Nothing that would warrant anything above a PG-13 though.
If you're just starting out purchasing CT episodes, I'd say get this one first. Its easily the most watchable and if I had to place it against previous work by the crew, I'd say this matches late season 2 MST3K. Which to me means its great.

After watching The Wasp Woman I can say that for me its the best CT episode yet. On this we both agree. Host segments were okay. Nothing spectacular. On this we disagree. I love both MJ's Board Meeting and Frank's Cavalcade of Stars with Buddy Rich, clearly the most adult-themed thing they've done to date.
