Geez Servo, I could sustitute Dylan for Zappa and that could be my comment. Seems different when it's your opinion doesn't it? Hey man, I never said that Dylan was overrated, I said he couldn't sing. If you remember correctly I also complimented him by saying that he was an excellent songwriter, just not much of a singer. Ahhh, but I know how much you guys love picking on me so, I'll let you have your fun. None of us are right or wrong. We're all just opinionated. Servo

LMAO, you Zappa fans are too easy. I knew it wouldn't take long. Whenever I talk with Zappa fans they act like he's God and by gawd you better not speak against him. (bestowing Godhood a little over rated don't you think?). Thought I'd push a button (Frank) and see who jumed. I'm Evil I say, EVIL! And you know why most of us do that, it's because he never got any respect at all. You guys talk about how great Lennon and Dylan are all the time, but you know what? You guys are a couple out of hundreds of millions. Dylan always gets play, always gets mentioned and always gets on the jukebox. We defend Zappa because people make it to where we have to. The media has already risen Dylan and Lennon to the levels of Gods. Overrated? Maybe. Underappreciated? As with all good musicians. Better musically than Zappa? I think not. So there, you bunch of assholes, Me included, Servo

I shall post my hypocritical opinions:
Axl Rose sings like a girl, and the band is pretty funny. In Utero and Incesticide is better than Nevermind. Britney Spears isn't all that bad. Van Halen looked funny, too. Country is good to laugh at, and most of them seem to be over-patriotic hillbillies. Marilyn Manson is not Goth, nor scary, and his real name is Brian. (contrary to what people believe at school, except for the Brian part) Foreign music is better than most American music.
I shall post more when I can think of some. Disagree.

I love shakin' the jar and watchin' the bees fight. ;D
For clarification, I like Lennon's songwriting- I think he was a genius. I just think McCartney is better and that opinion is unpopular (hence its inclusion in this thread).
And phantom, your rant proves my point. I never said Dylan didn't get respect from others, or that Hendrix (et al.) would share my opinion. All I said is that he's overrated- something your rant actually defended for me. Even if he's overrated by brilliant musicians, he's still overrated.
C'mon engineer, you've got to have some unpopular skeletons in your closet of opinions. Risk being flamed. Be a man!

I have two VERY unpopular opinions:
1) Rap, Hip-Hop, and R&B aren't real music 2) Country is painfully bad
Positive unpopular opinions: 1) Bad Religion is the most under-rated, and talented rock band ever. I can't believe that they don't get air time or awards for what they've accomplished.
2) Classical music is great to listen to if you want to get energized, or focused. Most people that I talk to say that they listen to classical music to sleep. They are obviously missing the boat here. How can you not catch the grandioso (is that a word? lol), fury, fear, and peace all combined in Grofe's Grand Canyon Suite? Or how can no one have a tear well in there eye at the end of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition? Classical music is the most powerful music written.
-------------------------------
I'm sure I have more opinions on music, but I think of them right now.
Anyways, I have an unusual taste in music, so I have uncommon opinions (as far as I can tell).

And you know why most of us do that, it's because he never got any respect at all. Servo You know I love ya TS, but that's BS. Zappa is one of the most respected artists out there, where it counts. Among other artists and his fan base. Radio play, phaw, that's no indication of respect or quality. I've been involved with the music biz since I was a teen and I've hated it, because it's about money not art. So forget the Biz side of it, the radio and what not. On the artistic side of it Frank Zappa is cherished. I've rarely heard bad things said about the man within the music community (other musicians or from music aficianatos). The media whores might not pay him respect, but I don't think Frank really cared what they thought anyway. No, I'm not a big fan but only because It's not my style, but yes I do respect his body of work. I respect anyone who works at his craft, who experiments and challenges themselves as he did, as Lennon and Dylan did. And the truth is, unless you take time to dig deep into an arist work, you really can't understand them enough to do a reliable critique. Hell I got a bad review for my CD (and that's par for the course in this life) but it was like the reviewer never even read the press kit, he had no undertsanding of the music, he made no comment on the lyrics. I don't care if you hate my music, but at least review it with some understanding of what I was trying to accomplish. Anyway, I was just yanking yer chain damn it! I still think your cool, even if you do like "Yes"!

All music on the radio/TV is horrible. Matt Fox is a genius. Even music with screaming can be good (trust me).

I still think your cool, even if you do like "Yes"! Hey man, I can dig it. Like I've said before and I'll say it again, I respect everyone's opinion, and, hey, I respect your guys opinions more than most. I understand you're point, being a musician myself for about 10 years, and I know how hard it is. But, you must admit, FZ did have the right sentiment in saying, multiple times, that the biz is crap. All they let in is what is popular, nothing new ever get through. Like your music and mine as well. Because we don't rap or dance or act like a bunch of morons. We make music. Not crap. And this is me saying this having not even heard your music. But, you're here, so, I'm sure you have a brain and know how to make good music. Or at least respectable music. I respect your opinion, and you respect mine, and, like I always tell Phantom, hey, at least we both listen to good music. That doesn't have a hip-hop beat. Keep the fight alive bro, Servo

Amen, I moved to Nashville (no, it's not all country here) to push my songs on music row, but geez did it sour me on the Biz.
The title of my CD is "Not A Viable Commercial Product". Which was a little dig at Nashville because all the damn publishers and A&R men and what not, all call it (music) "The Product" and often use the word "Viable" when judging it (Is it radio friendly, grr). I HATE that. I didn't compose a freaking "product!" I composed a song which came from my soul and was crafted with (I hope) some talent.
I know the biz is needed to get guys like me out their to the public, but it's a side I dislike with all my heart.
And fellow musicians, my advice. Unless you like to play the game, stay out of Nashville. She's a heartbreaker.

Unless you like to play the game, stay out of Nashville. She's a heartbreaker. Ahhhh, I know the feeling. I've got a funny little story, won't take long, but, it's on subject. The biz sucks, let me tell you about it. When I was 18 or 19, I don't remember, I had a great band, played solos, good singing, a few horns here and there. I got a drummer that's just as fast and loud and precise as Bonham, a bass player that could wail, and a guitar player that was like a virtuoso. Sent a few things out, never really got anywhere, but, when speaking of Nashville, we got a real funny letter back from one of the A&R people there. Like I said, what we were playing was basic stuff, in the same vein of most 70's rock, like Boston or Floyd, Zeppelin, stuff of that nature. The letter was dry and plastic, like most of the people in the industry, but it had one statement that stood out.... No Commercial Potential. I loved it, it was so ironic I laughed my ass off. The stuff that had been so popular and in demand just 20 odd years earlier now had no commercial potential. I got it framed. It's hanging next to my autographed Zappa album. They told him the same thing you know. Hope this just proves to everyone that didn't know, just how plastic and ignorant music has become. If it ain't one of the 5 videos they show on MTV, then you ain't getting no respect, and you know what? IT STINKS!!!! Servo
