MightyJack and TomServo69,
Those are some heartbreaking yet hilarious stories, and it is so true about the music industry. I don't have a similar anecdote, since I don't have a band, but I feel that the ol' 80's punk band Agent Orange has a great lyric for your stories:
i don't want to think about it i don't want to see i don't want to know the kind of fool they'll make of me the public gets what they deserve not what they demand unless we all decide to be a business, not a band

That's great, I remember Agent Orange, they were out about the same time Rollins was with "Black Flag" and Billy Idol was working with "Generation X". Great lyric.
And TS69, that sounds like Nashville. It really is very plastic, there is a formula for everything.

I like some country like Johnny Cash but I don't care for the Nashville corporate stle. That's so weird. I totally would have pegged you as a Garth Brooks fan. I've got a friend who's a studio musician in Nashville, except he calls it Nash Vegas. It really is all who you know. Talent is non-essential. In fact, having talent will usually work against you in L.A. and Nashville.

first off I gotta agree with Ator on the fact that Bad Religion Music is GREAT!! There's nothing more fun than to burst into singing "Fill up my cup" Next my very unpopular opinion: Well I just know I'm gonna get attacked when i say this but i can't stand Elvis Presely, sure he had some good ones, I liked Hound Dog, and a few others, but I can only listen to them once a year because they get on my nerves afterwords. I think he's way overrated and the only reason he got so popular was because he rebeliously swung his hips. *gasp*
Also I don't know if this is true in other parts of the USofA, but whenever I say I'm a huge fan of Weird Al, I get a really "what are you on" look from everyone. I personnally think he's great.

Wierd Al is also quite talented, and pretty damn funny. I've got his album Running With Scissors.

Despite that I respect the man for what did for rock and roll so I'll him credit where credit is due.

I've got my ticket for the Weird Al bandwagon. He's an incredibly underrated musician. I think it stinks that he's only known for his parodies. His original songs are quite impressive. For you Zappa fans, you really should check out the song "Genius in France" from Weird Al's most recent album ("Poodle Hat").

Here are some of my unpopular musical tastes-
I love country music. But I hate the absolute crap they play on the radio. I'd rather hear George Jones, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings. Although I do like Alan Jackson and George Strait. I even like some of Garth Brooks' stuff. 'Not Counting You' and 'Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)' are good, solid country music.
To me anyway, John Lennon is a pretentious jackass. And Paul McCartney's stuff is so full of sap you have to blow your nose on a pancake. They needed each other to tone the other one down.
Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry, and Ray Charles have done some of the greatest music ever. Without these guys, The Beatles would not have existed.

Reggae Music is too out there. Drug induced music is not music
Pink Floyd Sucks period
Most Music made today basically sucks. Too manufactured and stale, how many times have you heard "I want you" or "I love you" in a song?
80's metal was not good or original, they ripped off Bowie's Ziggy Stardust look.
Elvis was very overrated. Screw the King! The Beatles were the Apostles!

Oh yeah, that reminds me.
Reggae is mostly garbage, except for some Marley, activist style Marley.
Ziggy Stardust is the absolute WORST Bowie ever. Glam-Rock was not cool anytime, much less the 70's when everyone else was rocking out.
Elvis is overrated. Would we have ever heard of him without Colonel Tom?
Today's music sucks. Live with it. Rap is not music.

Lennon is my musical inspiration, I've studied his chord progressions and am always blown away. Lucy in the Sky... On my best day I couldn't have arrange that song, with the finger picking etc. So you've piercd my heart sampo. Being the a-hole I am, I shall now pierce others hearts. Frank Zappa is over rated as a composer and intellectual. As a musician he wrote undiciplined messes and his intellect was banal at best. So there, take that!! You could not be any more incorrect. Zappa was a genius. He created music that was so original that it still has never been duplicated. He also trained some of the world greatest guitarists like, Steve Vai, Adrian Belew and Dweezil Zappa. How can you his intellect was banal? OK, maybe he was a little long winded but his wit is unmatched. Maybe you should try listening to him a little more. Try "Hot Rats" or "Waka-Jawaka"
