I love Mike sitting in the "escape hatch" sketch in Final Justice. One my favorite sketches. ;D
Mike: Aw, can't I have just one more justice? Servo: No, young man! That was your Final Justice!
Maybe shout could be kind enough to rerelease a quasi-volume 9 collection with as many episodes that they can rerelase from the set. That way the gaping hole in my DVD collection would be filled and I'd have a nice 1-14 in a row

I love Manhunt in Space and Soultaker have watched them a hundred times and with watch them a hundred more great episodes. Final Justice isn't one of my favorites but is very funny in places while Mad Monster is one that I put on to help me take a nap. Overall I can't wait for it.

Looks decent, but I have the two newest episodes already, and I think I have "Mad Monster" floating around the hard drive somewhere - it hasn't been on my priority list to watch. "Manhunt" is the only big reason to get this one, so I likely won't be picking it up any time soon.

AWESOME!!! This is great news! I'm so glad we're getting SOULTAKER, plus two episodes with shorts I was unsure about rights-wise (this bodes extremely well for several episodes!!). And I like that Shout is carrying over the numbering system. I hadn't thought of that! This really opens up season 1 for releases. ;D But the inclusion of Soultaker confuses me to no end. If they could get the rights to this, why wouldn't they include it in the 20th Ann. Set?! I'm thinking 1001 should have been switched with 1004, and likewise with 103/211.

I'm thinking 1001 should have been switched with 1004, and likewise with 103/211. I too think switching #1004 with #1001 would have been a good idea, but in the end it doesn't really matter. Shout said the episode choices weren't supposed to reflect the 20th Anniversary name (many of the "iconic" or super-classic episodes have already been released). But including #1001 does make it a great follow-up! And it'll be nice to see another 1st seaseon episode in DVD quality.

ehh... Can't say I'm that thrilled with the selection, but more MST on DVD is always a good thing. That sums up my feelings too. I enjoy Manhunt in Space, and it'll be good to have these eps on DVD, but otherwise... *shrugs* Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to buy it. So, the rights-savvy among us are surprised at Shout getting the rights to some of these shorts. Does that mean this is another set that we need to pre-order before the set is yanked from the shelves?

You realize that your vigilance in telling us about rights means that I'm waiting anxiously for your analysis of the implications for future releases...the shorts are obvious, but any other potentially happy surprises from the announcement?

Yay! Okay, I watched Soultaker a few weeks ago (20th anniversary and all), but I haven't seen Final Justice in ages, and I've never seen those two Joel epps!
I'm giving it a thumbs up.

Oh, good. One episode I have (Manhunt in Space), but only on VHS from off the TV, so it'll be good to have a DVD of. I've never seen Mad Monster, and the other two I've seen, but don't have, so I haven't seen in a while.
I'll be getting this one.

Now to begin bonus material speculation:
What do you think the chances of a Tom figurine are?

A very decent set, though I'm personally not a fan of the Mad Monster episode. But, as has been said before, more MST3K on DVD is a good thing, regardless.
Edited to add: I'm sure it's a bit premature to assume this is the final art work, but lord help Shout Factory if it is...

Yeah Mad Monster certainly is not one of my top episodes. Even a top episode of season one. But like what's been said before a good season one copy of MST3K on dvd is always a bonus. I have Manhunt in Space and Mad Monster on DVD-R (From a VHS source not digital quality), while I have copies of Soul Taker and Final Justice on VHS directly from the TV so it will be good to get digital quality copies of all of these episodes. Hey it's MST3K and I Love It... What can I Say !!

That way the gaping hole in my DVD collection would be filled and I'd have a nice 1-14 in a row What about us that have the original set? I would much rather have Shout putting out episodes that have not been released. With the amount of episodes needing a release there is no reason to double dip. So, the rights-savvy among us are surprised at Shout getting the rights to some of these shorts. Does that mean this is another set that we need to pre-order before the set is yanked from the shelves? Regardless of possible rights issues (seriously doubt Shout is going to repeat Rhino's very public mistakes) everyone should pre-order and buy these sets on release date to insure that we get more. The studios only really care about first week sales. I would be willing to bet that if they didn't sell out of the tin version we would not be getting a new announcement so soon.
