I also like how the episode selection for this set follows the pattern of the previous Shout set: Two Comedy Central episodes, two Sci-Fi era. One hisorically important episode, one Joe Estevez movie. Don't forget, volumes 13 & 14 also feature the human catchers mit Robert Z'Dar! Robert Z'Dar and Joe Estevez in a bizarre double play by Shout Factory! Wonder if that cost 'em their souls? Great news, and good to know Shout! aren't dawdling with the release shedule! I too applaud them continuing the '2-fer' system - one of (if not the only) complaint about the 20th Anniv. set being Joel-light (tho they could have skewed this set to fix that, but hey, it's MST3K - what's to complain about!). C.

Looks like a fairly solid set. I kind of wish they would have done the split 3 to 1 in favor of Joel to even the sets out but this is still great news and a lot sooner than I expected. But at least they didn't put "Final Sacrifice" on. That one always puts me to sleep.

BLASPHEMY! My son and the great (despite the fact that he shot and killed me) Rowsdower will hunt you down and force you to map Israel, even though it is already fairly well mapped.
What was the volume 12 debacle? Is it on the chopping block for "out-of-print" status?

Never fear Troy's dad, most of us love you and your son as well as the man who killed you. It did receive the 2nd highest votes in the last Rhino poll (edged out very slightly by Puma Man) so don't let a few blasphemers get you down. There will be celebrations in the street when your story is finally released. And I don't know what the rights debacle for Vol 12 was. The only one I'm familiar with concerned Godzilla (vol 10) which was later blamed on Frank in the Gila Monster extra.

LOL what did Frank do?? Was it a humorous blame TV's Frank moment, or a true blame Frank Conniff moment?

WOW! Thanks for the post "Tony? Pepper? MJ?" I've never seen this! In the same month that Lando Calrissian, Richie Cunningham and Opie Taylor return for Obama fever, I see the MST3K crew return (albeit I was a bit late in the game for MST3K).

I don't think there was any problem with Vol. 12 - After the problems with Vol. 10, Rhino decided to play it safe and only include public domain movies in Vols. 11 and 12. The only volume not available any longer (besides 10.1) is 9. I don't think it was ever stated for certain which film they had the rights issue with but it may have been Women of the Prehistoric Planet.

Which is why I still hope Shout! releases the available episodes from that set eventually. While it technically IS a double dip, for those who didn't buy it in that narrow time frame we have to either bid on ebay for $100+ or miss out on it.

So you haven't picked up 10.2 yet? That is where this clip is from. You are lamenting now about not getting Volume 9 what do you think is going to happen with the rest of the Rhino sets? They don't have the rights to MST3k anymore. So unless they worked out a deal where Rhino can keep manufacturing discs (don't hold your breath) all of the Rhino releases are headed OOP.

I'm pretty excited about this set - which is noteworthy, considering how picky I am about my episodes! I absolutely LOVE Soultaker, and I haven't seen the other 3 in their entirety (saw bits and pieces of Final Justice). So it works out for me just fine, I think.

Rhino can't release a Vol. 9.2 now, but Shout definitely could since they have home video rights to the entire MST3K series. So in theory, they could start re-releasing all of the titles that Rhino have already but that wouldn't make much sense. While it is possible for Shout to include the movies from 9 that have no rights problems in future volumes, the chances of that happening are probably not too good. But I agree it would be a nice thing for those who didn't purchase vol. 9 before it was pulled.

As far as I know, Shout would have to re-license the titles Rhino released (though with some titles they might be able to transfer the rights over). I'm sure Shout will reissue the Rhino episodes sometime down the road.

I'm sure Shout will reissue the Rhino episodes sometime down the road. I really, really hope not. There is no need to rehash the old Rhino titles. Pretty much the majority of fans who really want the titles already bought them and while there might be some newbies to the show there won't be enough of them to support double dips. I was just looking at my MST3k stock at my store today and I have had some of the boxsets sitting there for over a year. Maybe twenty years from now there might be a need to re-issue but for now they need to only concentrate on titles that have not seen a release.

I meant a few years from now, once Shout has released most of the [reasonably] available episodes.
