I have been to every live RUSH show that's come through Memphis. That goes back to Signals. RUSH is one of the best bands on the planet. Hey man, that's cool!!! But, I'm not taking it up with Phantom again. He beats me down like a fool everytime I mention them. Servo

Okay, what about personal responsibility? TV doesn't make anybody do anything. People choose to be stupid, and they would make that choice regardless of TV. The problem is just that people are stupid, I guess.
I've realized this argument, while enjoyable, is futile. I believe that TV is a more of a reflection of society than a contributor to it, though it does that too. Maybe I'm wrong. Regardless, that's the way the world, or America at least, is. And there's not a damn thing we can do about it.
Sigh

We don't (at least I don't). We just happen to hate this particular belief you hold. Just to clarify, what particular belief do I have that you hate?

Just to clarify, what particular belief do I have that you hate? The belief, and stop me if I'm wrong, that there is actually GOOD reality TV out there and the fact that TV, as of the past 20 years, hasn't led to a decline in society. Did I get that right? I think I did. Servo

I think I did. Servo I make no claim that there is a GOOD reality show, just that all of them aren't complete crap (though many of them are). But no, I don't think TV has had much to do with the decine of society. TV executives don't, and can't, force people to watch, they choose to watch. Don't blame bad TV, blame the idiots watching bad TV. If nobody was watching, it wouldn't be on.

Let me pose this question to you though. If TV is not to blame, mainly for force feeding things to people, then how is it that everyone loves rap music nowadays? I remember in the 80's when it was just a genre, now it's forced upon everyone. In the same vein, how are we having this conversation? Because TV force feeds us ads and other crap to push reality shows on us. Just one man's opinion though, Servo

Okay, let's go through this step by step:
1- Parents are ultimately responsible for their children.
2- Television influences children.
3- As a parent taking responsibility for my children, we don't spend our time watching things that will make us all stupider for having watched.
Or: 1- Television shows are supported by advertizers who pay for spots based on viewership.
2- People who watch a television show implicitly support the broadcasting of the show's ideals and influence simply because they are increasing viewership by 1.
3- People who watch shows that negatively influence children and/or culture are part of the problem. Even if those people don't have kids of their own.

You seem to believe, like many do, that TV has some kind of hypnotic power over people. Bulls**t. Who says everyone loves rap? It's a very poplular genre of music these days, sure, especially with kids, but it's not forced down peoples' throats, or ears in this case. It's on TV a lot because the TV execs are trying to appeal to youth, that's where the money is.

Yeah, I'm so sorry. I just realized how wrong I was. Me and the family are going to sit down for a nice evening and watch the Super Bowl. Good family fun.
Oh wait, I really am right. It strikes from everywhere, when you least expect it.
There is good TV, so, I'm wrong again. It's called the History Channel.
Sorry for being a smart-ass, TV made me that way,
Servo

I just realized who is, or are, to blame for all the crap on TV - Nielsen families! Y'know, the boxes they put in homes to guage ratings. It's at least half their fault. Who are these people, and why do thet choose to watch crap?
All of us here, I'm assuming, don't have a Nielsen box. So our viewership, or lack thereof, is not being counted.

All right, I'm going to dive into hostile territory here.
Well, Nightfalcawk (that sounds a bit obscene when said out loud), your two favorites have bitten the dust. I don't think they should have cut Scooter Girl, she was unique and entertaining, but my two favorites got through. I like the football player and Jon Peter Lewis, the pen salesman. I'm going to keep my eye on the loner girl, too, but I haven't heard her sing yet.
Yep, I like American Idol, and I'm not going to feel guilty about it any more. Do your worst.
