I completely agree. I hate TV today. Reality has ruined everything. Is there any good first run comedy show on TV today? The last good comedy show had it's last episode shown last Saturday.

I can make no informed comments to the quality level of any reality television, including American Idol, Survivor, and/or Which Greedy Indiscriminate Wanna-Be Actress Wants to Marry A Smug Obnoxious Rich Guy Who May Or May Not Be Rich?
For you see, I've never watched a second of any of them. And it's a beautiful thing.

Okay, let's open our minds here for a minute, let things air out. There is good reality TV and bad reality TV, just as with any genre. Unfortunately the ratio is about 80% bad to maybe20% good right now. I and agree there is way too much of it out there, but to lump them all together is just lazy and ignorant. I despise shows like Fear Factor, My Big, Fat, Obnoxious Fiancee, Average Joe and Big Brother too, but I don't wish their creators and viewers dead. I just wish the shows weren't on anymore, and someday they won't be. And good TV is not dead, just a little harder to find. So you might want to take your pretentious heads out of your "cooler-than-thou" asses and try not to have such a knee-jerk reaction to things. It doesn't help your case at all and just makes you look bad. Calm down there Pete! I know where everyone is coming from! I hate reality TV too! But don't just glibly say "It's reality so it sucks!". I hate the fact they exist, but the fact is it's here, so deal with it. Just think, if people didn't try a tv show genre (or station) they didn't like, then MST3k would have have stopped at KTMA! Think about it! The wrestling show after it! If 90% of all the people who picked up KTMA said "I hate KTMA wrestling thingie! I won't watch!" Then no one would be a Mistie! Open your eyes people! *valium kicks in* Sorry. *looks down in shame* *walks away*

Jeez, all this sounds like is bitter old men complaining about how everything used to be great, but everything now sucks.
There is plenty of good TV out there, comedies too, you just have to make the effort to find it. It may not be on network TV, but it's out there.
This is depressing....

I agree completely, were those remarks aimed at me? No one in particular. Sorry to everyone I got on that crazed speech.

There are some shows that are concerned with reality, and are good, like COPS, and....COPS. See the list runs thin. And why is COPS good? Because it's real! It deserves the title of 'reality'. These new "reality" shows should be called "Society Destroyers". No arguments here. Cops is probably the only reality show I can tolerate

Sure there were some crappy shows then, but it was devoid of destroying society, vulgarness, racism etc... I think you're giving TV a lot more credit than it deserves. TV can't destroy society. I'm sorry, but that's just a ridiculous thing to say and believe. I suppose there is more "vulgarity" on TV these days, but that depends entirely on what you think is vulgar. Racism does exist on TV in some ways, but do you really believe it's worse now than 30 or 40 years ago? C'mon....

Sure there were some crappy shows then, but it was devoid of destroying society, vulgarness, racism etc... TV in the 50's was afraid of admitting there was racism. PBS recently re-ran a great profile of Rod Serling. He did a lot of TV before Twilight Zone. He wrote a lot of teleplays dealing with social issues and prejudice and was constantly at odds with the networks. It was a very repressive time. Did you ever see a black face in Mayberry?

True, there has, and always will be racism. But I never saw a show in the 50's where people will call each other the n word and such. It wouldn’t have been allowed if only because it would have admitted that it exists.

You LOVE TV! You want to kiss it......you want to marry TV..... Oh I see, because I protest your hatred of TV, that means I love it? Not at all, I'm rather indifferent about TV as a whole: don't love or hate it. TV is like any other medium (movies, books, magazines, whatever) there's good stuff and bad. Just because you aren't willing to seek out the good, you condemn it all as bad. Like I said before, that attitude is lazy and ignorant. And choosing to be ignorant is the worst kind of kind of ignorance.

I've got quite a few TV years under my belt and notched into my butt. If I choose to be "ignorant" as to what is on TV then, more power to me!!! I know what is good and what is trash. I don't need some knuckle headed - 'net shrink to insult me. Or try to insult me. I never said I hated TV. I said that ALL reality shows suck.

TV is the third parent in every household. Who's fault is that? Not TV's.
