Not the funniest episode of all time, but lots of stuff going on. And yeah, Andy wrecking the golf cart was hilarious.
And how about the epilogue? Is Pam going to be the one to develop some ambition and encourage her and Jim to leave Scranton for bigger and better things? What if Jim doesn't convince Ryan that he deserves the job? Are he and Pam gone for the big city? That little moment between her and the graphic design guy really put an interesting twist on this episode.
They're doing a pretty nice job of setting up the finale. And it's going to be an hour long! Generally I didn't like the hour-long episode experiments, but I love it for the final episode of the season. Can't wait.

me neither. and i had forgotten that last bit about pam talking to the computer graphics guy. that does point to some interesting plot developments. and the guy she talked to was cute - nerdy cute - so it made me wonder if we'd be seeing him again. competition for jim? and everyone remember they are going to show three or four episodes (i don't know which ones) this sunday night.

The computer graphics guy made Office fans turn into Lost conspiracy theorists. As opposed to competition for Jim they believed it was him under incredible makeup. Basically the guy has a similar voice, which somehow convinced many that he looked like John Krasinski, he didn't. Thankfully the writer cleared it up. I think they were trying to work him into the whole proposal thing. It doesn't even make any sense for many reasons!

the first episode that came on TBS tonight was my favorite one - when michael burns his foot in the george foreman grill. that one is just too funny. the bubble wrap, dwight's concussion, jim spraying michael and dwight with the water bottle...i could watch that one ten times in a row.

The post by solgroupie above got me thinking about my favorite episodes, and I've come up with my top five of the moment. Not a bad episode in the entire series, but these are the ones that really do it for me:
Halloween I believe this was the first episode I saw. Michael has to fire someone, and several employees come close to getting the ax before they argue Michael out of it in private in his office. Creed shines like a roman candle in his first big break on the show. And Dwight dresses up as a Sith Lord. Outstanding. The little epilogue afterward with Michael at home alone looking sad until some trick-or-treaters show up was surprisingly moving, and made me wonder just what this little show was about.
The Injury Nice work by solgroupie mentioning this one above. Although Michael burning his foot on the Foreman grill is hilarious (as is his explanation as to how it happened), the best part about the episode is what happens to Dwight. His conversation with Pam as they're helping him out the door is sweet and too funny for words.
The Client Michael and Jan try to close a big deal with the county. Michael moves the meeting to Chili's and acts like a general idiot during the entire meeting. That's bad, except the client, played by Tim Meadows, seems to get along great with Michael, much to Jan's consternation. Some great moments in this episode, including Pam finding Michael's screenplay and Jim having everyone act it out in the conference room, Jim and Pam's impromptu dinner on the roof, and Michael hitting it out of the park with the client and Jan. And wait for the ending – Jim and Michael share an understanding moment.
The Alliance The first season episodes are generally underrated, but this is definitely the jewel for me. Good old-fashioned messing-with-Dwight episode. Jim and Dwight are in rare form in their scenes together, and it's fun to see Jim and Pam work together to dupe Dwight. Then there's the subplot with Meredith and her birthday – Michael's card and toasts are just perfectly awful. This episode is packed with stuff and enough quotable lines to satisfy for days.
The Dundies They may have had their moments in the first season, but this is the episode that officially kicked off the Jim/Pam dynamic of the show. Michael takes the office workers out for the annual office awards show, The Dundies. Of course, it's at the local Chili's. Michael plays the part of moronic karaoke emcee, hurling bad jokes and ill timing everywhere. Then Pam stays at the party while sending Roy home, gets drunk, saves face for Michael, wins an award for "Whitest Sneakers" and plants a kiss on Jim. And nothing would ever be the same again.
"Best Dundies ever! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" - Pam

very astute choices, mod. i've never seen the last one, though! i cannot rest until i do.
and that was a good point, bringing up that sweet end scene with a depressed michael cheering up when the little trick or treaters come to his door. that is what kills me about michael - just when you are ready to run over him with your car (ala meredith), he does something unexpected to make you go: awwww!

Those are the moments that really sell this show, in my opinion. The writers don't go for the sap, but they see real-life touching moments in the chaos that is Michael's office and home. It doesn't hurt that they have actors that can pull it off so well, either. You've never seen The Dundies? Stop everything you're doing and find it somehow. Netflix. Borrow it from a friend. It really is a classic. One of Pam's finest moments.

That reminds me of Christmas Party (how did I leave that off the list?). Michael finally figures out the secret to a good party. Michael: Now you’re the expert, is this enough to get twenty people plastered? Store guy: Fifteen bottles of vodka? Yeah, it should do it. I can't see you not digging The Dundies. So much goodness. I can't believe I have to work during the finale tomorrow night! Gah!

i know, me too. i'm praying my piece of crap vcr will cooperate and tape everything without incident.
which episode was it when michael, hoping to ward off any unpleasantness with the office staff, promises a "big surprise" to everyone, but never delivers (except for some ice cream sandwiches)?

I think that's Health Care, another really good episode from the first season. I might have to hold a mini-marathon tonight

Well, just finished watching the season finale. Some purposely vague thoughts:
Poor Jim.
Michael better not screw up with Holly.
I'm glad that happened to Ryan. Bastard.
Kevin ruled this entire episode.
"I'm going to kind of be a daddy."
OMG Dwight!!!! Aaahhhhh!!!

The finale was fantastic, and was not what I expected on many fronts. But there were more than a few highlights (far too many to mention):
* Kevin and Holly absolutely stole the show. I've actually seen something like this happen in real life. * Creed blanks on what exactly it is he does there. * Toby: "DOES ANYBODY HAVE A CAMERA HERE?" * Phyllis plans a bitchin' party. Loved how you could see the ferris wheel lights through Michael's window. * Jim. Ryan. It's on. * And the big ending. Didn't see that whole thing coming at all. That's a whole lot of story for next season.
And about a thousand other things. Will have to watch it again...
Great episode.
