i canNOT believe sh*t my dad says is beating community in the ratings. that has to be some kind of sick joke or horrible mistake. since nbc was stupid enough to cancel my name is earl, i can easily see them making another mistake like that with community. it's so well written and the chemistry between the actors only gets better with every show. why shouldn't nbc can it?

That show just gets the ride-in from The Big Bang Theory and goes straight into the safe background noise of CSI. Community is screwed by its network and time slot.

More good stuff last night, and I loved the documentary style. I couldn't figure out why everything looked different but familiar. For one, it wasn't coming through in hi-def for me, so that threw me off. And then when Abed revealed he was doing a documentary and it showed the footage again it made more sense. It's amazing how different that look is but familiar at the same time because of The Office and Parks & Recreation and so on.
I liked it, but I hope they can get away from these slightly over-the-top Pierce episodes. It's time for him to just go back to being another oddball in the study group. He doesn't need that much extra to do or have to be that outrageous to be an interesting character.
Overall, pretty good.

i liked it. i like how just when it might seem as if pierce is going to be a good guy, he just...isn't. you don't get the last tearful scene as everyone forgives him and he does something unselfish. you get jeff dragging him out of a car and beating him up in front of their friends.
troy's reaction to lavar burton was hilarious. i loved that hissy fit he threw by himself, screaming that he hated pierce. and britta struggling with her moral integrity over that $10,000 check was funny. and poor shirley. but the main course was jeff and his father issues. joel mchale is a pretty decent actor, i think. also, he cleans up quite well.
but how come abed didn't get anything?

good show tonight. loved the commentary with abed and troy over the election, along with the dean's uncle sam costume he borrowed from his "sister." what was it troy said about debbie - it looked like god just 'spilled a person?' whatever it was, it cracked me up.
but the best had to be the video of jeff at 19, dressed up as george michael. i would have loved to have seen them rehearse that.
and how about abed and the secret service chick? abed deserves action, even if they aren't technically not in the same room.
and good to see pierce back from rehab with a pencil sticking out of his face.

Not bad, but definitely not my favorite of the season. I did like the final debate between Magnitude and Leonard and the audience heads following each debater like a tennis match. A little bit of classic political commentary there.
Abed's side story was funny and sweet. What can you say? He's just a likable character who gets some of the best plot lines. And again, this one wasn't their best work, but they did what they could with it. I did like the way Abed made a joke about The Last Airbender bootleg the other Secret Service agent found in his backpack.
Very little Britta and Shirley. Pierce seemed to be getting closer to normal, though being a super-jerk seems to be the new normal. So be it, I laughed with him a few times this week. And no Chang, always disappointing, but that's how it goes.
Another thing - I was watching this with a 20-year-old kid and I couldn't figure out if I needed to explain what Jeff was mimicking in his audition video. Maybe that clip is was more famous than I think it is, but I felt old there.

Double post, but it's worth it. Good news, Community is back next year! tunedin.blogs.time.com/2011/03/17/nbc-renewals-community-yay-parks-and-rec-yay-the-office-duh/I was unsure enough that I was really pleased to read that. The new episode last night was pretty good, but not great. Chang almost over-Changed it. He's gone from being unstable to possibly insane the last season or so. He's still funny, but they're pushing him about as far as they can take him, I think. I miss him as the Spanish teacher. Otherwise, pretty good stuff.

^Jeff's idea about framing Chang for human trafficing gave me the biggest laugh in the history of the show.
Hooray for another season!

mod, you said precisely what i was going to say. almost word for word. weeeeird!
i was thinking the same thing as i watched chang. i liked him better when he was just an overly sarcastic, slightly weird spanish teacher. now he's almost a parody of himself; a cartoon character.
britta has changed too. they've definitely made her goofier and more awkward. when she started singing that brittney spears song i could hardly watch her it was so painful. that was the point, obviously. but i liked the story line with her, troy and abed. i cracked up to see the footage of her ripping off abed's movie, kickpunch, the kickening (awesome).
that epilogue was kind of weird, too. just showing them into their own little projects. it's like they were acknowledging they have officially abandoned the premise of the show of them actually having a working study group.
i'm also thrilled they got renewed for another season. it gives me hope.

good show last night - not over the top funny, but good. i loved their pulp fiction costumes, especially shirley's and pierce as the gimp. and chang was a little more toned down this episode, which was nice. of course the focus was on jeff and abed's "conversation." it was weird to see abed as a normal person - i loved the line from jeff when he said he was dressed like mr. rogers and talked like frasier.
and abed and troy's dine and dash at the end was AWESOME.

For me, sometimes the plots work and sometimes they don't. This is a case where the plot was a bit thin but the performances were fantastic. McHale and Pudi were really, really good in the dinner scene, with special distinction going to Pudi. What a step to the side of what we think of Abed. He's a good actor, for sure.
The rest of the Pulp Fiction stuff was good, but was overshadowed by the dinner scene. Fair enough. Definitely a strong episode.

kind of a tame episode last night. i was far more interested in abed's experience in the who's the boss class than anything else - until i saw troy's part in the jewish musical at the end. sometimes i get tired of jeff's vanity making him do something to upset the group and then having to make up for it. but maybe pierce will get a girlfriend out of it.
what WAS happening??

Abed's stuff was great. Don't mess with him when it comes to pop culture. He'll fillet you in front of your own class.
I didn't see Pierce and his girl getting along coming, so that was kind of a nice surprise. Maybe he needs someone like that round some his edges.
And Chang! "Free coats." Loved it.

This show IMHO, jumped the shark mid 2nd season. An Andy Dick cameo just cemented it.
Like the Family Guy episode where Brian makes the jazz club into a hip hop club and it goes well until Andy Dick shows up and everyone scatters

i could never put community in the same class as family guy. family guy has never been anything but stupid and senselessly vulgar IMO. i'm no fan of andy dick, but i had no problem of his cameo, especially since it took up very little time in the show. the writing in community is some of the best in comedy on primetime today - again, IMO.
