I went into Tmpgenc DVD author and started making a Dual Sided DVD (figuring I could reshrink it before burning), but it says it'll take about 15 hours to convert everything! Is that right? This is the kind of thing that puts me off making DVDs.

This is the kind of thing that puts me off making DVDs. I wouldn't base it on that. I am not sure how mrbasehart got the 15 hours of converting. If it is that long then somewhere along the way the video file was changed to something other than an mpeg2 file. Mpeg encoding is a long process and you need a big cpu to make it go faster. These days within about 3-4 hours of downloading the Rifftrax I have a disc I can watch on my tv.

Just wanted to chime in and thank everybody for their helpful hints, tips, guides, etc.
I'm not a total novice with this kind of stuff and had worked with most of the tools before, but it was very valuable to be able to come here and brush up. There were some settings and tweaks here and there that I know would have taken me a long time to work through on my own.
My first attempt was a success, if not a slam dunk. In trying to equalize the sound levels between ST:V and the rifftrack I might have made the movie soundtrack a bit too loud... but nothing too horrible.
Anyways, thanks again to everyone who pitched in with the helpful info!

This is the kind of thing that puts me off making DVDs. I only use two programs (DVD Decrypter and Nero 6) and it takes me a little more than the time to play the movie twice to go from Zipped up Rifftrax and Commercial DVD to my very own Rifftrxed movie DVD. I love it!

i use convertx to dvd i bought online for 15 bucks or so and all i have to do is load a file, make up a menu and hit "convert" an hour or 2 later ive got a dvd. the results are basicly the same as the file that was converted, so the mst3k eps ive done with this are not perfect dvd quality, but i knew they wouldnt be. definetly work though, and make nice placeholders til i can get a good tape to dvd transfer... or until i get a set of rca inputs for my comp and take video right off of tapes

I'd just like to thank everyone for putting their two cents in on making Rifftrax DVDs. I've made a few DVDs now using a mix of the programs suggested in this thread. I think it was a mistake to start out with LoTR because of the length and having to synch two riff files (the riffs ended up late the first half and early the second half). I'll be redoing that one soon since I've refined the process since then. I'm pretty pleased with what I've been able to do so far. Still working out how to include chapters and subtitles, though. I think I figured out the chapter thing, but what program produces the subtitle filetype that IFOEdit recognizes, anyway?
BTW, this is the process and programs I use (all freeware):
DVD Decrypter to demux video and audio from DVD AC3 Tool to convert .ac3 audio file to .wav GoldWave to edit and mix the movie and riff audio files (as .wav) BeLight (a version of BeSweet) to convert the resulting .wav to AC3 IFOEdit to author the DVD DVDShrink to shrink and convert the DVD files to ISO files DVD Decrypter to write disc with ISO files
It takes quite a while, but since I don't have an MP3 player, it's a lot better for me to be able to have the rifftrax and movie together on a DVD.

I ripped Crossroads with Dvd decryptor, but the sound was messed up. The first 45 mins is really low and then it gets loud after that. Anyone else have this problem? Yeah i had a simular problem. It had something to do with the fact that the movie has two angles.

Finished the Fellowship DVD remake. Did a darn good job, if I do say so myself. Took me a couple of days since I had to do it in the down time I had available and the synching took hours of work. Actually got the chapters in there this time. They seem to be a second or so early, though. Oh well, that's DVD Decrypter's fault (that's my story, anyway). At least the synching and volume of the audio is perfect this time.

Good job!
I have put chapters in on all of the rifftrax so far and they all are off by a second or so. However, I use TMPGEnc DVD Author to make my DVD's and I can modify the chapter stops to the correct position manualy. It takes longer, but I like it to be more precise.
I also use the chapter stop captions provided in the ReadMe file as the description for my chapters on my dvd's. Got this idea from mrtorso.

I haven't been too anal about the precisse chapter stops. They are generally ok for me. I wish DVD-Decrypter did a better job with the time codes because subtitles have been my bane.

Well, these guides are good and all, but I think I'm just going to spend $5 on gammer making me a DVD. Can we do that (provided, of course, that we have already bought the Rifftrack of it)? I don't have really any of the stuff necessary for making a DVD myself, though i'd still really like to have the Rifftrax on DVD.

Yeah, thats what I figured. Never hurts to ask though.
