I still like Smith better but Capaldi is getting better and better. Last year was ok to me. If I had never seen the Doctor before I probably would have lost interest halfway through the season. But this year rewarded my patience. All 6 episodes so far have been excellent, especially the last two. They have everything I expect in a Doctor Who episode.

I didn't like Maisie Williams' character; I didn't like the fact they made her immortal (or just long-lived?), it takes away from the uniqueness of Jack. (Though, hey, they did actually mention him - wish they'd just have him on already).

Why should Jack be unique? Plus Jack and Maisie's character are very different. Jack cannot be killed. You can put him at the center of a hydrogen bomb and his body will reform. Jack is in a way a god. He is truly immortal. Maisie's character just heals very quickly. If you cut off her arm it will grow back. If you put a sword through her heart the wound would heal before her brain dies. But if you destroy her completely, she will die. She is an ordinary person who lives for a long long time.
They were trying to answer the question, what is it like to be immortal. What would it be like to watch a spouse and then a child grow old an die while you stay young? What would it be like when people either hate, or fear, or worship you? Would you always feel alone? Why does the Doctor always need companions when he knows that they will only be with him for a short time? Can he afford to love them or is the pain of loss too much? Can you ever really have a home? You can stay somewhere for a while until someone notices that you moved to the town when their mother did and their mother died of old age and you're still 18. A witch, burn her. So you have to move and move. You can keep things but you can't even keep something as personal as your own name.
The episode is trying to show what the Doctor feels.

I think that's been established.

Nice speech from The Doctor. All world leaders, tyrants and maniacs should be required to hear it.

Awesome speech. One of the best in the history of Doctor Who. The show is more than 50 years old and it is still relevant and as good as ever. There aren't many shows that can claim that. IMHO this is the best season as a whole since the reboot. I have loved every episode. Every other season has ups and downs. This season has had all ups.
I think MST3k could have done it but they would have needed to do what Doctor Who does. Change over the cast and writers every few years. Bring in new writers every few years and let the writers who have started to burn out go on to other projects. The same as the in front of the camera stuff.

Funny you should say that. Joel just revealed on the Reddit he's doing that he is, in fact, a Timelord. He also said that would be his ideal for the reboot as that's what he thought the original could have been if it hadn't been cancelled. 100 eps, then a new host, 100 more eps, then a new host.

So they follow up that great speech with a really CRAP episode: living eye crud? Really? The Doctor said it himself in the episode: This makes no sense!
Saw the scene for next week's episode, kind of looks like they're visiting Diagon Alley from the Harry Potter movies.

I wouldn't call it crap but it was the weakest episode of the year.

They made it look like it was going to be so interesting and touch on all those past episodes. But, meh. It was okay. I don't know why The Doctor had to forget Clara. That's a lot of significant past he's not going to have memory of now, that's dumb. Maybe they'll have him remember again at some point and just have to deal with her loss.
Wonder what sort of companion they'll have him be with for future seasons. They showed a preview for another new episode, but I don't know when it's on.
They need new writers for next season. A few of the last eps were just a lot of nothing going on. How can you talk about a possible hybrid for an entire episode and still not get anywhere with that premise?
I still hope they bring back Jack Harkness at some point.
Maybe The Doctor can meet up with Donna again and they could each remember what they had to forget, heh.

They made it look like it was going to be so interesting and touch on all those past episodes. But, meh. It was okay. Yes I agree. Not the best season for sure. I do like Capaldi though. I was happier with this ending of Clara than the Raven episode though. Run You Clever Boy Run was a nice touch. Possibility for future appearances ? Guess I will take a wait and see attitude for now. At least the Sonic Screwdriver is back. They showed a preview for another new episode, but I don't know when it's on. That was for the Doctor Who Christmas Special. Should be on around Christmas time of course. Maybe Christmas day.

The Christmas show is always on Christmas day.
I liked the episode a lot. Now we know that the Doctor doesn't have to be white or a man for certain. I wish that they had let Clara die as a lesson to the Doctor that even he has limitations.

Cute episode. (The Christmas one). He's going to have to run into River at some point when it's HER first time meeting him. I mean, he still doesn't have the whole story of how they met originally (how SHE first met HIM, before she knew who he was) and why they married, right? Maybe she set the whole thing up, heh; she found out about him somehow, then met him, and told him they had already met in some future time and were married. So, that's why he marries her, because she already told him of their...future past, is it? Past future? Did any of that make sense? Edit: Or did she meet 11 for the first time? (HER first time, not the viewers'). I didn't watch all those episodes. Post-edit: She is Rory and Amy's kid, does she grow up always knowing who The Doctor is? I forget the story line.
