That Sea Devil episode was horrible. More nothing. And those Sea Devils looked almost as bad as the aliens in Laser Blast. And that stupid moment with The Doctor and Yazz. She said Yazz was the most incredible person she's ever met. Yeah, okay. That lump of a character is better than Sarah Jane and Rose, Martha, Donna, Jack, Clara. Yep, okay. Maybe if they had ever had Yazz actually DO anything, that would make more sense. The companions in these Jodie years are just so blah. I heard that when Davies comes back he is just ret-conning that whole Timeless Child story line. GOOD.

Did anyone watch "The Power of The Doctor"? It said online that it was supposed to air on BBC America on Oct. 23rd. I missed that, but now it's nowhere to be found on the channel. Usually once it's aired, it can be watched on On Demand for the channel. What's going on there? Was it just a one-off for now and I have to wait until it re-airs at some point? Some past companions from Classic Who - Tegan and Ace - were supposed to be on, along with some past Doctors as the Doctor's consciousness or something before she regenerates into... David Tennant! Until Ncuti Gatwa takes over as "permanent" #14.

Okay - derp - it WAS on On Demand. I just didn't look hard enough, heh. Stupid me. Usually when a new episode airs it's at the top, and then in descending order by episode, but for some reason they had all of Season 13 in descending order and then THIS episode at the bottom of the list. Whatevs. It wasn't TOO bad, for a Chibnall era ep, but not great either. The story was mostly a mess, but it was cool to see Tegan and Ace interacting with their past Doctors. I don't remember much from Classic Who, I thought it was pretty corny and didn't watch it a whole lot, but I remember bits and pieces. The Classic Doc I remember most was Tom Baker. (I don't remember the original story lines for The Master, so still don't know what his/her deal is, not completely anyway). I guess Mandip Gill is leaving as Yaz so it'll be a fresh start when the show comes back, but they didn't give a reason IN UNIVERSE for her leaving, which was dumb. Other companions have stayed through to the next regeneration. But, hey, MY DOCTOR is gone, so I'll just skidaddle and leave the next incarnation alone, buh-bye. *eyeroll* I really want to see interactions between #10 and #12, but I don't think Peter Capaldi will be back anytime soon. I don't know if Tennant will be back for just the one episode with Russell T. Davies back at the helm and Gatwa will take over or if there will be more eps. I hope there's more than one episode with 10, he's my fave. Would love to see Capt. Jack back for an ep with 10. Anyone know if there will be a Christmas episode? Or is the new season starting next year? Guess I could look that up. Edit: There are supposed to be 3 specials in November to mark the 60th anniversary of the Whoverse. So, I think Tennant will be around for all of those and then regenerate into Gatwa's 14. I'm expecting quite a few past Docs and companions will be on hand for that. Hopefully.

Tennant is officially the 14th Doctor. Gatwa will be 15.

Oh? Okay. Whenever I see his name come up, it says 14. (Edit: Though, that could've been because they were keeping Tennant's return a "secret" - yeah, worst kept secret ever). No one read past this if you want to be surprised: (I kind of wish I HADN'T known about Tennant coming back, that would've been an awesome surprise). I saw a very short "coming up this season" sort of trailer and Matt Smith and Catherine Tate are definitely going to turn up in one or more of the special episodes. I hope Donna is able to remember. Edit: Scratch that. I saw it very quickly on a small screen. Don't know why I thought it was Matt Smith: it was Neil Patrick Harris! Never mind, I'm an idiot.

I hope he goes in the Tardis and says, "Oh, I don't like it."

Apparently it's not THIS November, but next year that the 60th anniversary special eps are airing. I hate waiting that long. The speculation is that Ncuti Gatwa wasn't available right away to start making new Who because he's making a movie, and instead of recasting or having fans waiting even longer for more eps when Gatwa was available, RTD decided to cast Tennant as a "bridge" Doctor for the anniversary fun eps and then have Gatwa take over when he was done with his other obligations.
I guess that's a good way to do it. I'm glad David's back for another go-'round.

Okay, the worst part in having to wait another year: In the U.S., Doctor Who will no longer be available on BBC America starting in 2023, but we'll have to watch it on Disney+ !!!
I don't have Disney+ and do not want to subscribe to it to see a show I was normally getting.
That really pisses me off. Disney doesn't need to own every stinking thing in the universe. It's a show from the BBC, it should be available on BBC America, that would only make sense. This is just utter crap.

I still don't have Disney +, so I haven't seen the new episodes. But, I have seen bits and pieces of the new eps on people's YouTube channels that were reviewing them, doing a reaction video to them.
They look kind of dumb, so I guess I'm not missing much.

They are mixed bags, but the high points are very high. If you enjoyed Series 4, you really, really owe it to yourself to watch the first three specials. They function as something of a distant epilogue and that's kind of beautiful. And the episode, "Wild Blue Yonder" is legitimately great. There's a wonky running gag it sets up that I'm not sure I get, but it's the finest piece of non-Weeping Angel related Doctor Who horror since... uh.... something that happened in Capaldi's era. Maybe The Boneless? Point is, it's really well done. A lot of people compare it to Midnight, and depending on your taste, that could mean a lot. It's not -as- good in my opinion, but it's solid.
While RTD era 2 stumbles a bit, it's still much, much better than the first two of the three Chibnall-run seasons - and we're only four episodes in! The newest Doctor hit the ground running, the acting and writing have him figured out immediately, much like they had with Matt Smith. It took Capaldi the better part of a season to acclimate, and Whittaker... something like three or four years, I guess. Maybe she never did?
That said - as a "60th anniversary year" they fumbled. There's a little bit of nostalgia here and there. But it never reaches the fan service highs of The Five Doctors, nor the character and lore progression of Day of The Doctor. Honestly, Power of the Doctor was better in this capacity in every way - it just aired a month too early to count.
Anyhow, I wouldn't recommend a month of Disney Plus -just- for these specials. At least wait until the spring season is out. Or if you're curious about the other content on there beyond Doctor Who.
