Some of the categories are inspired. The Rift spot as "free parking" made me laugh.

I also love UNIT and Torchwood as the Utilities. ...ooh, ooh...and EXTERMINATE and REGENERATE as Community Chess and Chance...

And you thought Series 5 was awesome... It looks good. My only reservations are: 1) Not sure how I feel about the Doctor traveling with a married couple. We've already had a lot of "couple" dialog/scenarios from Amy and Rory last year. Was it time for a new companion this series? 2) I didn't like Moffat's Christmas Special at all. (I'm also concerned his writing may be on a slightly downward trajectory. His stuff was pretty good last season, but imo hasn't quite matched "Girl In The Fireplace" and "Blink") 3) (And this is the big one) Mark Gaitass ("The Idiot's Lantern," "Victory of the Daleks"), Matthew Graham ("Fear Her") and Gareth Roberts are all writing scripts this series. Why are they using these guys? Sure, we've got Neil Gaiman this season, but where is Paul Cornell ("Father's Day" and "Human Nature"/"Family of Blood")? Even Simon Nye and Richard Curtis contributed some absolute gems last year. Let's see some more stuff from them...To create a truly great series, Moffat needs to surround himself with talented writers the way Rod Serling did on "The Twilight Zone" (using Matheson, Beaumont, Johnson, etc).

See, I'm actually fond of Mark Gatiss, and I liked "Idiot's Lantern" and "Unquiet Dead". I like Roberts' episodes for his humor elements-some funny lines and set-ups. I think the plots are usually rather silly, though to be fair, it's more that they're child-level, and I guess that is what the series is supposed to be. LOL
Some of my problem with last season was that it felt bookended by great episodes, but a lot of the middle (with the exception of "Vincent", which I dug myself) didn't affect me as much. A lot of the story concepts felt recycled (dream world, alien race misunderstandings, bad guys pretending they're not bad again, etc). I know, it's Doctor Who, that happens, but it isn't always so readily apparent.
It almost seemed like it was more about showing off fabulous dialogue and proving how different it was from the first four runs than it was about great story ideas. I've got higher hopes now that its more established and they can be sure of themselves.
As for the Rory/Amy thing, I think they're still around basically to carry on the River Song plot line. Maybe she's their whelp, maybe she's got to do something horrid to them, maybe she's Amy. Maybe in Moffat's head if he's about to marry off the Doctor he needs to build in a married couple to be friends with to allow the normal plot cliches. I hope it's not going that thirtysomething, but I'm worried.
