I think I solved the dead bird mystery. If I'm right, it relates to an old Celtic ritual that's still practiced in parts of Ireland and coastal Europe. It's often referrEd to as the Wren Boys or the Wren Dance. I haven't found a good explanation of WHY, but here's the WHAT: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wren_DayAnd the Santa as a woman in costume looks very possible. That almost makes it weirder. Here's The Chieftain's doing a version of the wren song: Awesome. I remember reading about this when I was trying to figure out the card, but I never actually looked it up. Thanks!

I posted a few more on the previous page, too.
And I just don't get the harlequin one. And it bothers me. I'm almost obsessed.

The owls kiling fairies just became my desktop wallpaper.
Love the shoe. Nothing says "I just quit trying and hate you" like a card with a shoe on it. There isn't even a puppy in a Santa hat tucked inside!
The three little puppies chasing the mouse and bat (?!) is my new favorite piece of randomness for the coming year.
And I unironically love the two roosters playing the piano and singing. It just says "Blow the wind and snow so chill/ but let it whistle as it will/ We'll keep our Christmas merry still!"
And a Happy Holiday to everyone! [hands out smashed butterflies and gutted fairies]

As someone who considers The Ghost of Jacob Marley and The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come as beloved Christmas figures on par with Santa Claus I find Christmas and the spooky/weird inextricably tied.
"There'll be scary ghost stories and tales of the glories of Christmases long, long ago..."

Ahh, the memories of this thread... I need to add some pictures of dead wren Christmas cards that I found next year. Sadly, no time this time around.
