It's been around for years, but I haven't seen a topic dedicated to this on the forum. (WARNING- POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD) For first timers, this is a theory based on the St. Elsewhere finale where the whole show was revealed to take place in Tommy Westphall's mind. St Elsewhere also had mentions and crossovers with other shows, meaning that those shows are also in Tommy's mind. The chart home.vicnet.net.au/~kwgow/crossovers(full).jpgA pdf file explaining the connections home.vicnet.net.au/~kwgow/cross_key.pdfI think the guy who made this said he hasn't updated the chart in years. So anyone got any more connections to Tommy?

The problem with that chart has always been that the person behind it has an open anti-animation bias. Yes, I know that Hanna-Barbera cartoons after a certain time (the third Scooby-Doo clone, to be fairly generous) got pretty bad, but that doesn't automatically write off their inclusion in the grid (and the same goes for efforts like Filmation's Star Trek animated series). In fact, tying in with any of those live-action shows is often a lot harder to pull off in animation (the obvious exception being tie-ins/sequels to live action shows).

Wow, didn't realize I got a response.
I remember an interview, where one of the guys behind the chart said it would be even more difficult had they included animated shows on there. I know if they did, then Seth Mcfarlane's entire universe would be included due to Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons appearing on The Cleveland Show. Daffy Duck also appeared on the Drew Carey Show, which opens up connections to shows like Tiny Toons. Then you got stuff like Cartoon All Stars to the Rescue, which had an appearance by Alf. That whole special has connections to God knows how many franchises(Including Ghostbusters of all things).

Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, besides being an abomination, has an extremely dubious place in whatever passes for canon for all the characters involved. You can practically write off Garfield and RGB since neither Mark Evanier nor JMS have much tolerance for such blatantly poor anti-drug episodes. And even if you count all the shows included, there are so few crossovers in their shows (as opposed to, say, the Hanna-Barbera stable) that the damage would be extremely minimized.

I admit I' am iffy on Cartoon All Stars because of the dream implication and how certain characters were household items come to life(Eventhough later on all of them were part of a poster).
Ditto about JMS' opposition to stuff like that. While he was story editor and writer for the Real Ghostbusters, it wasn't for the entire series run so I' am not sure if his opinion should reflect all of that show. That's not a slam towards him since his tenure with the show was the most memorable. I also agree with him on how the changes to the show were stupid once he left.

Also, the producers didn't actually get Jim Davis' express permission to use Garfield in the special, and Davis was apparently quite unhappy when he found out.

Cartoon All-Stars came right around the time JMS was begged back by a shamed DiC and ABC for his all-too-brief attempt to re-right the ship, IIRC. Besides, the alternative means trusting Janson and Menville as the Word of God, and they *clearly* were merely parrots for what ABC wanted.

Yeah good point on that. I' ll try to bring things back to Tommy Westphall. Here's some more connections, if animated shows were on the list.
-The Critic,24,Duckman, and Dragnet(All four shows had Simpsons crossovers)
-House(It crossovered into Family Guy which has Simpsons connections)
-Animaniacs,Freakazoid, and Pinky and the Brain(Through the Daffy Duck connection)
