The title of the thread is self-explanatory: What is your favorite episode from season 1? For me, it's The Black Scorpion. It's a great episode with great skits. The riffs are hilarious, and especially Servo (if I remember correctly) has lots of gut-busters!

Yeah I' am also partial to Robot Holocaust. Maybe because the 80s Mad Max esque movies brought out the best in them.

Although I like all of Season 1 except for Mad Monster and The Crawling Hand, I'd have to say my favorite is Moon Zero Two. It's the only Season 1 that made me made me want to look for the uncut version and watch it for the cut scenes (which clarifies something only hinted at in the episode), plus there's no Commando Cody.

sol-survivor Johnson is right!
Although I have a soft spot for The Crawling Eye, if I had to pick between them I'd go with Moon Zero Two. I find the movie to be very watchable and an interesting sci-fi concept. Far more memorable for me than just about any other of the lackluster season 1 episodes. When picking a Josh episode, give me a KTMA every time.

It's a tough call, but I'm going to go with Robot Holocaust. Moon Zero Two is a close second. The rest of the season is definitely hit or miss. I do like Women of the Prehistoric Planet, though. Maybe it's a color thing.

Inasmuch as I was never crazy about Weinstein as Servo, my favorite Season 1 episodes are ones where he makes that dry, monotone-ish delivery work for him and his stuff is actually pretty good: Project Moonbase, Slime People, Robot Holocaust, and The Black Scorpion. It helps that these episodes featured movies which were really screwy in some way.
But, anyway... just one? The Black Scorpion.

"Robot Holocaust", "Moon Zero Two", and "Women of the Prehistoric Planet" are the three pointers to the future of MST3K, with mostly steady riffing, and few dead zones. It also helps that those three movies are pretty watchable (and all three have a hot lead actress, so there's that).
"Robot Monster" is a fine episode too, although I agree with Josh's comment that the episode is only funny due to the ridiculousness of the film, and not the actual riffing.

Project Moonbase - because it gets the most laughs out of me, even the shorts (especially the first) got me laughing (though two Cody's are a tough slog)

I agree on Moonbase. The riff content certainly felt above and beyond for a first season episode, along the lines of second season fare. The movie was dumb but harmlessly watchable. It's a first season episode in my regular rotation.

Project Moonbase would get my vote as well. Followed closely by Robot Monster, Moon Zero Two & Untamed Youth.
