Yeah, that's a big one that I did not see coming. His influence is widespread and deep. Hard to believe he's not around anymore.
Rest well, sir.

He set the trends. And apparently planned this last album to coincide with his death. RIP

I never bought an album. I never counted Bowie as one of my top favorites but I always respected his talent and his influence is undeniable. Obviously his illness wasn't public knowledge. And I always thought he was aging very well compared to most of his peers.

Yeah, I've never been a big music person, but you can't deny his cultural significance and his skill. Most of my familiarity with him comes from his work in Labyrinth, which I watched yesterday after I heard.
And, yes... compared to many other rockers, he was aging incredibly well.

I'm with Phantom on this one. With all of my musical loves and studies, I never really looked very hard into Bowie. I knew his '80s hits and "Under Pressure", but that was about it. It's not that I didn't like his music, I just never really pursued it or gave it a chance. But I was always very aware of his work. So much of the music I enjoy orbits around his influence, so someday I might just have to become a fan.
After his death, I saw a ton of comments out there about Labyrinth, but nothing about his performance as Tesla in The Prestige. It was quite impressive. He could have been a real actor had the rock god business not worked out for him.

And I always thought he was aging very well compared to most of his peers. the only album i ever bought was let's dance when i was in high school. i had been very aware of bowie growing up since my older sister and her friends listened to him. i liked what i heard well enough, but never bought any of his music for myself when i was older except LD. but i loved his pop hits back in the '80's, especially modern love. i think a lot of people respected his work because he was so talented at many different things. he seemed so weird, artistic and cool and it never seemed to be an act to sell albums; i felt that was really him. and maybe some intoxicants. he and rickman, though. double whammy.
