As we're currently moments away from the new season landing on Netflix, I thought I'd make a general thread for us to discuss the show outside of specific episodes, and other miscellania like behind-the-scenes stuff, fan theories, overall impressions and what have you. A sort of catch-all thread for the stuff that might not need it's own thread, and perhaps for those times where you can't seem to find the right one. (Or just don't feel like making one.) After 18 long years, our beloved cowtown puppet show is finally returning to us, and I couldn't be happier! So, what do ya think sirs?

I think...I need to know more about how Season 12 is being made.

I donated $200 to the kickstarter and I am very disappointed. The method of pre-recording the riffs makes it all feel so fake. There are too many long jokes and not enough time in between. It ends up making me be more annoyed by the riffers.
The host segments are all shot from the same angle with very little dynamic action. It's all just so formulaic. So meh.

I on the other hand am a $200 backer and am mostly pleased. There are aspect of the series that I wish weren't there, but I always focus on what something does right over what something does wrong. And to deny that I have laughed would be a downright lie, because I have been in fits of laughter many times.
The series needs to iron out the wrinkles, but after five (and a half) episodes I'd say they've got a mojo that I dig.

Well I'm a $300 backer so my opinion wins.
I will say the riffing does feel a bit unnatural, but at times the original show did as well. Maybe they could have toned down the bullets of jokes, but that honestly is a matter of style, and expecting the new show to be exactly like the old is a mistake. If you want the old show, watch it instead. I'm 2 episodes in, and have the day off today (thank you Judas) so I plan on watching a couple more. I have laughed quite a bit, and the host segments have been quite good.
Overall, I am very pleased with how it turned out. Though with all the talent involved, I never doubted that they would make it a great show.
Looking forward to the rest of the episodes, and season 12 too.

Well, that's kind of how it was on the original series... Okay but they don't zoom in for anything. They don't pan the camera...at all. They don't interact with the set at all. The old show at least had different camera angles and they moved around the set occasionally.

It's lent right now, so I have to wait to 2 more days to see the new show. It'll all be worth it in the end, though, and I bought Netflix specifically for the return. The reviews I've seen so far are mixed-positive, but judging by the criticisms I've heard, I'll like the show just fine. Also, can't wait for better puppetry, especially functional arms! Huzzah!

If it's better puppetry you want...um...let's just say it's debatable...

I think the problem is that you have professional puppeteers operating puppets that are not intuitively designed by someone with a deep understanding of puppeteering. Essentially, piloting a Crow or Servo is a specialized skill.

But it's Trace's fault for spoiling us by making his eyes the most expressive part of his body in the first place.

They don't even TRY 90% of the time. They just sit there...

The official Facebook uploaded a little promo video of Jonah and the Bots riffing Stranger Things. Fun fun, maybe they've done some other Netflix shows too.
