Darkman Three O'Clock High Rock N' Roll High School Darkman is my personal favorite comic book-movie, even though I never read the comic book. "I want the PINK elephant!." "JOOWIEE!" Three o'clock high is a very funny movie. Buddy Revell is a flippin cool ass character. My TV program guide gives it only 1 1/2 stars, being wrong, they must've missed the off-beat humor (reminds me of that old show Parker Lewis Can't Lose). Just look at what people in the IMDb say about it. Rock n Roll High School is even wackier. Man I haven't seen that one in years.

6. Manos: The Hands of Fate Manos is not really a cult movie. It's more of a fan favorite of a cult TV show. I doubt that many people have seen it uncut. I'm not saying, not a single person has seen it uncut because I know Something Weird Video distributes it uncut. But have you seen it uncut, and if so did you find general entertainment ouf of the uncut version or did you endure pain? But to get back to the point, Plan 9 from Outer Space is by far my favorite cult film. It's one funniest things ever, need I say more. MST3K: The Movie is another for obvious reasons.

Exotica is my favorite Egoyan film. It's devistatingly brilliant.
Darkman was a film first. Rami even talks about how people always assume it was based on a comic book, but actually the comic books came later and were inspired by the movie.
There was also this Japanese film I watched a long time ago, I think it was called "Oni" or something similar to that. I'd like to see it again but I've never been able to find it.

I recently watched a movie called “Horror of The Blood Monsters”. It may have just out ranked Plan 9 as the best worst movie I have ever seen. It stars an angry and quite possibly drunk John Carradine in a movie that’s not just one movie, but a few movies patched together to make some sort of a “Franken-movie.” If you like bad monster movies (so bad their good monster movies) you absolutely have to see this. You’ll thank me latter. (That or you’ll track me down and beat me senseless for recommending this awful movie to you.) My half assed review - www.peteandles.com/HORROROFTHEBLOODMONSTERS.html

Exotica? Brilliant? I saw that on HBO (no it wasn't a made-for-HBO porno, but it was in fact the film Exotica) and I thought it was so bad that I wanted to poke my eyes out with needles. Though it was at like 12:00 midnight, so who knows. Maybe I was cynical and tired. You were cynical and, imo, not paying attention. Egoyan's films are an aquired taste, and I admit at first look like bad cable soft porn, but that's just a trick to draw you into his world. Watch The Adjuster and The Sweet Hereafter, and the watch Exotica again. See if you don't see a different movie than you did the first time...

Though it was at like 12:00 midnight, so who knows. Maybe I was cynical and tired. It really depends on what you want from a movie. You know I like character studies. Those existental explorations which cut to the very core of the human condition. What is truth, the dichotomy of man (his public self vs those dark corners he carries as well). yeah, brilliant sums up a movie that tackles these issues and does so in an artistic, moving way. Whether you find these kinds of movies interesting is up to the individual. But you can't rate or grade a film like "Exotica" in the same way you do an "Indiana Jones", because they don't exsist in the same universe. One is art, the other entertainment. There are times when I want escapism and there are other times when I'm in the mood to be challenged. Egoyan constantly does that and he always surprises me. When I think I know all the tricks and have become jaded about the whole filmgoing experience. He... amazes me. Shows me something new. He's breathed life into a tired old medium IMO.

I’m pretty sure “Horror of The Blood Monsters” is the official title. That’s the title on the special edition DVD anyway. Of course, you can never be too sure about these things.

I get almost all of my movies from Amazon, since I don’t have many other options where I’m at. Just make sure it’s the special edition DVD though. Good movie transfer, and there are a whole bunch of hilarious trailers on it.

Well, I like art movies, and entertainment movies. I can enjoy Indiana Jones, but I can also enjoy the artsy and VERY slow moving 2001: A Space Odyssey. When I saw Exotica........I dunno, I wasn't entertained, and I thought it surely wasn't art. Maybe I'll see it again, when it's on. BTW, I only watched the first 30 minutes, so my opinions shouldn't count anyway. 30 minutes? hell no. Egoyans films are ones of discovery. They unfold, revealing a little more with each scene and like MST, they can not be viewed passively. They are often uncomfortable to watch (Sweet Hereafter made me ache, there were so many heartbreaking moments in it) but very deep and very thoughtfully directed and written. And its not about being slow moving, it's about the message and story it tells. Being slow but revealing is a tough trick. Wim Wenders for example, has made some nice movies but at times he drags scenes on and on and to no end. There's no purpose, no revelation. Wenders could use a lot of editing, but with Atom the story telling is tight and each moment offers something.
