What's scarier than COVID - 19? The comment sections of YouTube and articles about it. A lot of people keep saying it's all media hype and lies. Some idiot said no big deal, just give people antibiotics. I kindly informed him that antibiotics are for bacterial infections, NOT viruses. I read an article that said COVID -19 was unknown to science until this outbreak. Some woman was commenting the usual, "more people have died from the flu." I said that this was new and not enough known about it yet and we won't know the full scope of it yet. She said it's been around a long time. I said corona virus has been, but not this strain. She gave the old conspirator's fave line, "OMG do your RESEARCH!" I told her I did. There was a video describing some infected people's symptoms. One guy in the comment section said, "They said this person has pneumonia! Which is it? Corona virus or pneumonia?!" I told him viral, bacterial and fungal infections can cause pneumonia. So, apparently there are people walking around who don't know what pneumonia is. One guy said he had the cure for the virus and the U.S. government was denying and refusing his cure. I reported THAT whack job as a spammer. And of course there were those, "this is the devil's work" comments. I really weep for humanity. There are way too many stupid people out there. I have to learn not to look at comments or at the very least learn not to respond to them. I'm sure it's raising my blood pressure. How have we come this far with so many nincompoops among us? Scary indeed. (And I'm not claiming to be smart by any means, but damn, people, read up on some things). More people have been killed by swords and catapults in war than by atomic bombs. If I have the choice, I'll take my chances with the catapult. People have been taught by the extreme right that there is no such thing as a fact. Everything is an opinion. This concept is incredibly dangerous. Ignorance may be bliss but it can be dangerous as hell.

I think what’s really scary is how quickly things change. We were initially told that novel coronavirus wasn’t as harmful to younger people. New news from Italy mentioned people in their 20s and 30s being put on respirators. Here’s an article mentioning it. fortune.com/2020/03/18/coronavirus-young-people-getting-sick-covid-19-us-italy-france/That’s why a top doctor was on television yesterday telling the younger set to, essentially, get their heads out of their asses and start taking this seriously. Like those vapid spring breakers in Daytona who pretty much laughed the coronavirus off when interviewed...and why hasn’t the governor of Florida closed the damn beaches yet?!? 🙄

That woman who said this has been around "a long time" who told me to do my research replied to the "I DID" that I typed and said that then I would know that the 19 in COVID -19 stood for 2019. ?!!!! I said it was 2019 three months ago - you think that's a LONG time? She said yes and that 80% of the people who got it recovered. I wanted to type "well, screw the other 20% according to you then, right?" I restrained myself. Arguing with a stupid person, I guess, would make me stupid, too. ?? I just re-iterated that this was still just starting and the full scope is not yet known. She then went on to say that she tested positive for the corona virus but didn't think it would "turn into" COVID-19 and she wasn't going to give in to the fear mongering. So what corona virus does she think she has? SARS? MERS? Don't know if she was being truthful, for if she were, certainly she'd be in quarantine now. (And I doubt she would say she didn't think it would "turn into" it, maybe she just meant the more severe symptoms). (Edit: I guess she meant the actual disease of COVID-19 as the media was kind of being confusing and interchanging the name of the virus - SARS-COV2 and COVID-19 as meaning one and the same, so it is a SARS coronavirus) I just said I don't think so many governments around the world closing things down is "fear mongering" and that they need to do this to contain it. (And that we can't play Russian Roulette with people's lives just because some people recover, we can't have them walking around infecting people who won't be as lucky). I'm not responding to anything more she says, we're just going to go around in circles. My sister owns a hair salon. She may be forced to close down until further notice - that was one of the businesses the state was thinking of to close. A lot of her customers cancelled their appointments anyway. I hope she and my brother-in-law (he owns and works there, too) are part of that relief package being talked about. They are going to lose a lot of money. I don't understand why things were left open as long as they were, quite frankly. In my state, the govt. picked a date to close bars and restaurants, so what did people do? They gathered in large groups at said bars and restaurants for one last hurrah. So, maybe they were already exposed just doing that? That was dumb. And they had schools closed on a certain date, having the kids go for a few more days before the picked upon date. Huh? I realize things had to be organized and loose ends tied up, but why expose people for a few more days and not just shut down immediately? Who knows. The state of the economy is going to be one scary mess.

Some idiot on one of the videos said this was all a hoax to "make money." Um...Just WHO is making money off of this? The whole world economy is a mess. Ugh. I just can't.
Some other idiot put sheep emojis in the comment section. Who's being sheep exactly? EVERYONE ON THE PLANET? Maybe he was talking about the TP hoarders. Who knows. But, come on people. The whole world is shutting down and you're STILL not taking things seriously?
Do people really think all the world leaders would make themselves look stupid and not electable if this wasn't for real? What are they gaining? Their countries are going to be messes. Maybe they think it's so they can do the whole "new world order" thing and just control everyone? They could just do that without the virus "hoax", no? (If they have all this power that conspiracy theorists are claiming - not that I don't think governments aren't corrupt at ALL).
Yep, let's just swamp the damn hospitals because this is just some overblown nonsense. Hospitals are pleading for more equipment like respirators and gloves and masks.
That jerk woman responded to me one last time and restated that she had tested positive and that it wasn't the big deal that everyone is claiming and said she didn't think "freaking out" was going to help anything. I kept to my guns of not answering anymore. I wanted to say that looking at her one, personal experience wasn't a barometer for the whole frickin' world. (And tell that to the poor people of Italy, ya dumb bitch).
I don't wish this on anyone, but if people have to die - why isn't it the selfish loonies who just wave it off? Why all the innocent? The universe is unfair. Again, don't want ANYONE to get this, though, of course.
I give up on humanity. Hopefully we'll start hearing some inspiring stories to restore our faith in same.

Covid - 19 is the perfect reason that the extreme right philosophy is so dangerous. Scientists are just guessing, everything is a conspiracy, education is evil, you must trust your leaders without question, type ideas are rampant in the U.S. today. Another thing that's really dangerous is that the idea that anything the government does anything to help the people is socialism. And socialism is wrong. The individual is king. I have a mind game to tell if you have a modern far right mind vs everyone else. Would you be happy sailing on a boat with 1000 passengers and room for 800 people on life boats? If you answer, "yes. There are 800 spaces. I'd get a spot." You're have a far right personality. The other inability to think of anybody but yourself and your immediate family and friends is key to the far right personality. It is not a key to all conservatives, just the far right. The Republican's in the Senate had to hold their noses to vote for a bill designed to help hundreds of millions of people and prevent the economy from collapsing. The very idea of helping someone they don't know personally is so repugnant to them that they're almost willing to risk their careers by voting against it.

Yeah, now Rand Paul has tested positive. Still don't want that relief bill to pass, Sparky? (Not that all the rich Senators need relief - so he probably still doesn't).
That other beeyotch that was responding to my posts (who didn't think this was a big deal and that everything was fake) was bringing up things about the homeless. She was saying something to the effect of "if it's so dire, how come we never hear anything about the homeless contracting this? Surely we would've if all this is really as bad as they say." (Paraphrasing).
Well, I don't know what planet SHE'S living on, but I'VE heard about it. There's an argument going on now in my state about turning one of the closed down schools into a shelter for about 75 homeless people who may have it.
AaaAArrRGGHHhh.
Apparently a lot of people in the U.K. weren't taking the precautions a lot of other nations were taking and now the number of people who test positive is rising faster than Italy. They were so damn put out that the pubs were closing. Holy sh*t, really? Some guy said he wasn't going to quarantine himself. Well, screw everyone you come in contact with, I guess.
This thing is surely going to test our patience with everyone and everything. Now there's a news article about people lining up to buy guns because they are worried about things getting out of control. Ahem. Yeah, that would be people like you, folks.
Hell, we might need the National Guard in some areas soon.
mylungswereaching: You are so right about, well, the right. I'd seen comments about other issues, too, that right-wing-nuts responded to. One was about climate change. There was some article about things getting warmer and he actually came up with the ridiculous argument that HIS POOL had barely gotten warm that particular summer (this was a couple years ago). Yeah. Okay. Temps soaring around the world, ocean levels rising, coral reefs bleaching out, people dying of heat stroke in places where that hadn't happened before, glaciers melting - but...hold up. Bob's POOL didn't GET WARM this year! Right, all bets are off. What were we thinking? Key word in global warming is GLOBAL, Einstein.
Another article was about world wide food shortages. This other imbecile said HE WORKED IN A SUPERMARKET and HE DIDN'T NOTICE any food shortages and that that concept was laughable. Okay. One supermarket where you live determines the state of the world's food supply. Talk about brain dead.
Again - this is scarier than the virus.

But a lot of that is because people are staying home as much as possible. If a few famous people die, especially young healthy famous people die and the numbers of death start climbing, you'd better not go out of your house if you have a cough. I predict that we'll start seeing cases of people being beaten up or killed because other people thought they were carriers.

New news from Italy mentioned people in their 20s and 30s being put on respirators. The thing about this that really worries me is the idea that if you're young and you get it, you'll be fine. So I've seen all these messages suggesting that young people need to isolate themselves because if they get it, they might give it to Grandma and Grandma might die as a result. And yes, that is a problem, but what it fails to acknowledge is the idea that this virus might cause some adverse long term health effects for people it doesn't kill. It's not a dichotomy. Results are not simply limited to full recovery or death. The virus damages your lungs, and it's permanent damage. Young people shouldn't get it because it will cause lifelong health issues, not simply because it'll kill Grandma. You don't want to be a 25 year-old with a pair of lungs that are more like those of an 80 year-old with emphysema. You don't want to be someone who gets out of breath walking up a flight of stairs for the rest of your life.

And there’s proof that young people HAVE been hospitalized with the novel coronavirus. I just saw a girl in her 20s being interviewed on CNN who thought she’d be fine and then two days later needed hospitalization.

So, our wonderful Prez never misses an opportunity to make himself look the hero. Did he ever admit he was wrong about this being a "deep state" hoax, or that it would only be as bad as the flu (which is actually quite bad every year, but anyway...) ? Did he ever apologize for not taking it seriously initially? I haven't heard that he has.
But I did hear part of what he was saying about how this sort of thing can destroy a country, talking about the economy, and he said before this outbreak our economy was "the best it's ever been." For which I'm sure he takes all the credit, of course, I mean it wasn't starting to improve before he got into office, it had nothing to do with any previous administrations. He had to get that little touch in about having the bestest economy ever in the history of ever while talking about the virus' impact.
He's more worried about how this will look on his record about the economy than the lives being lost. Grrr. (At least that's how it seems when I hear him speak).

He's more worried about how this will look on his record about the economy than the lives being lost. Grrr. (At least that's how it seems when I hear him speak). Being more concerned with the economy than people lives is pretty standard modern Republican thought process. It didn't used to be. It used to be "We'd love to do it but it would bankrupt us." Now its, "there's no problem here. People only die of the disease because they want to." Old school Republicans tried to figure out what was the most important thing to pay for and what could wait. Modern Republicans want to pay for the military, and the police and cut pretty much everything else. One thing I haven't heard that much about is that Covid - 19 can cause permanent lung damage. Some of the people who get sick enough to go into the hospital go in with the lungs of a 40 year old and come out with the lungs of an 80 year old 3 pack a day smoker. I really hope that one day my lungs won't be aching for air.

Prince Charles tested positive for the virus.
This is getting too close: Not only are there cases in my state, but an elderly gentleman who lived in my city died of it.
What a mess this little bugger of a thing has caused. It's the little things that kill ya.
Re: That relief package: Um..are they saying they're giving $1200 to certain people? (More to those with families, I think). As a ONE TIME thing? What the hell is that going to do? Better than nothing, but, that'll what..? Pay someone's month's rent or mortgage? Then what? Of course, I don't have any answers either, but, hey it's their jobs right? They have all the info to figure this stuff out. Our way of living is really not conducive to being human. We're just statistics and meant to work toward having THINGS and we're only supposed to enjoy what we've worked for when we're at death's door and it's too late to enjoy it. And we have to work to put a roof over our families' heads and food on the table, but we can't actually spend time with them, 'cause we're, well, working all the time. (The collective "we" - I don't have kids). What a dumb-ass species. We've been doing it this way for so long, and I don't have any answers either, as I've said, but there has to be a better way.
Will this thing we're going through change our perspectives and make us re-evaluate our ways of doing things? Probably not. Once this runs it's course (and it will probably rear it's ugly head again and again like the flu), it'll be back to business as usual. We never learn.

The $1200 for 1 person is on average a little over 1 weeks pay. If you give the money to individuals, most of them will spend it which helps business. Its more designed to pump up the economy than to really help out families. It's a good idea if the virus would actually allow people to get back to work without killing them.
