According to the definition I found, this is probably what the ft. stands for: ft. Abbreviation of featuring (used to introduce guest performer(s) on a musical recording) Track 1: "A Song Title" by Johnny Vocalist ft. Rick Singer & the Other Performers Thanks, that makes sense. So I was searching for Libby Quinn, and discogs shows that Shook Out of Shape and a B-side, not heard (or credited) in the movie, Keep Talkin' had a release on REL. The records label confirms that Libby Quinn wrote Carol's tunes (so I added that info on the post). I struck out on information about REL, Libby, Terri, and Don, and the only thing I stumbled upon for Dale Jimmerson, aside from the single, was a post where his caretaker asked about buying the single to share with Dale (this was dated a year ago)

Season 8 Soundtracks A one, er, two more for the weekend...
Jack Frost MST actually retains most of the music and gets some laughs out of them
IMDB lists the titles as... Humorous Folk Song, Nastenka's Song, and The Fir Tree Thrives and Grows - I'm guessing the humorous folk song is the one MST cut, it's where Ivan strolls through the village and all the women flirt in song and then he goes on to sing about how wonderful he is...
Nastekna's song is heard when she goes to gather water. Fir Tree? Maybe that's the thieves tune, but then there was also a wedding song at the end. The soundtrack was composed by Nikolai Budashkin, who was inspired by the works of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, he may have also written the vocal tracks.
Riding With Death This movie gave us the musical stylings of Jim Stafford with such classic hits like, "I'm On The Air", "Slam on Through", and "Thank You Sam (For Saving my Life)" - but wait, there was a song missing from the MST version, and I'm amazed they would cut a tune titled "I'm in Love With a Cupcake" - seriously MST, how do you not go with that? Here's a clip (start at 5:16 if it doesn't go to it automatically)
Jim Stafford was a big deal in the mid 70s, his debut album yielded 4, Top 40 hits - "Swamp Witch" (#39 Billboard, #31 Cash Box), "Spiders & Snakes" (#3), "My Girl Bill" (#12) and "Wildwood Weed" (#7). All but the first were higher-charting hits in Canada, as was the album itself (#48). In the 90s he opened the Jim Stafford Theatre in Branson, Missouri.

Which song would be the one Grandfather Frost was singing when he was frosting the trees? That's the Fir Tree song, I missed that one. Let's break them down by the translated lyrics * Let The Road Be Smooth and Free, is the song Ivan sings about his wonderful self. * Nastenka's Song (about cuckoo's cooing) * The Fir Tree Thrives and Grows (Father Frost's song) * The Bandits song (where they bitch and moan about being cold and hungry, this might be the humorous folk song, since it's accompanied by wacky music) * Wedding Feast song (no subtitles for it) I imagine there is some Russian website that gets into the real titles and lyrics and whatnot, but I've not found it.

I will say, that when he wasn't doing the cheesy humor and the silly novelty songs (Cow Patty), Stafford could write a good tune, especially on that first LP. I like the production and the lyrics on Swamp Witch for one.

Season 8 SoundtracksI've been working away on Soultaker tonight, listened to a lot of music, watched the movie Unriffed, did some study, and have that entry banked and waiting to go. Then I circled back and polished up today's posting, which closes up the 8th season. Enjoy... Horror of Party BeachTrack Listing: All songs performed by the Del-Aires * Drag, (Ronnie Linares and Gary Robert Jones (as Gary Robert Jones) * Joy Ride (Wilford L. Holcombe and Zebedy Colt (as Edward Earle) * The Zombie Stomp (Wilford L. Holcombe and Zebedy Colt (as Edward Earle) * Wigglin' Wobblin' (Gary Robert Jones (as Gary Jones) * You Are Not A Summer Love (Wilford L. Holcombe and Zebedy Colt (as Edward Earle) * Elaine (Ronnie Linares) * Wagoner's Lad, a traditional folk ballad sung by the young ladies at the slumber party From Paterson NJ -the birthplace of Lou Costello- came this fearsome musical foursome. Here's a great source of information on the band... The Del-Aires Tribute PageThe lineup consists of lead singer/guitarist Ronnie Linares, bassist Gary Robert Jones, guitarist/saxophonist/keyboardist Bobby Osborne, and drummer John Becker. BTW, on the "Drag" single the band is credited as Ronnie and the Del-Aires Earle and Holcombe were old musical theater friends of director Del Tenney and penned several songs for the film - while "Zombie Stomp" gets a lot of attention, it's a bit too overproduced (I dislike the layered backing vocals). I think the tracks written by the band were far better numbers. My favorite tune is Elaine heard on the Coral single below. They were a pretty good band, very tight and professional players. There never was a soundtrack LP, so the singles and the movie are the only places to hear these numbers. The video includes Elaine, and the B-side, Just a Wigglin' N' Wobblin' - also this episode features one of the rare musical stingers (the previous one was Shine Your Love from Angel's Revenge, I believe the next will be Rock N' Roll Martian) Devil DollThere is one credited instrumental tune, titled Onslaught, by Canadian Robert Farnon, I'm guessing that's the song playing when Marianne does the twist under hypnosis. Onslaught has also popped up in an episode of Space Ghost Coast to Coast (Pavement) Space Mutiny* The Edge of a Dream, Steve McClintock (written by McClintock & Tim James) Eh... but what do I know, Wiki reports that singer, songwriter, and producer Steven McClintock has almost 20 million records sold to his credit and has written top 40 hit songs in country, pop, and AOR. Plus he can be heard on the Jetsons: The Movie soundtrack (Maybe Love) - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_McClintockFor my ears, however, the 80s could get a little too polished, too overproduced, and plastic. AlsoThe Universal (and other) creature features have the usual collection of dance, radio, record, and club music. Giant Spider Invasion has several tunes playing in the background, as radio or jukebox music, but no one lists their titles (IMDB has a bunch for the score). And lastly, Edgewood Studios did release a CD for the synthy score in Time Chasers.

Season 9 SoundtracksWerewolfSam the Keeper sings about weird things and composer Keith Bilderbeck, who won a few Emmys for sound editing (on Star Trek the Next Gen and MacGyver) gives us this Indian chant... TUSK! The Deadly BeesTrack Listing* Stop the Music, performed by Suzanna Leigh, dubbed by Elkie Brooks, (Milton Subotsky and Clive Westlake) * That's All I Need You For, The Birds (Ronnie Wood/Tony Munroe) * Baby, Let Me Love You, Elkie Brooks (Lynch & Westlake) The movie that broke up The Birds, well, not really. But they did break up and went on to others things after this movie, Guitarist Ronnie Wood is likely the most well-known member, as he went on to play with Rod Stewart and later, the Rolling Stones. Apparently, this clip in the film is all that survives of the original recording, in 2011 vocalist Ali McKenzie re-recorded and released the song in full, it sure captures that '60s vibe - you can hear it here... youtu.be/s2_hkDIcB5IElkie Brooks provides the singing voice for actress Suzanna Leigh, Elkie was once in a band with Robert Palmer called "Vinegar Joe." One of her older brothers was Anthony Bookbinder, who went by the stage name of Tony Mansfield, and was the drummer for Billy J. Kramer with the Dakotas, on their run of 1960s hit records. There's a different recording of the song, posted on youtube (but coupled to MST footage)... Compare to the movie version...

"Baby Let Me Love You" plays on a radio (briefly) at approximately 23:38.

With the 2 versions of Stop the Music, it sounds like two different voices, and I thought, "well they're playing at different octaves". But hearing that radio tune (and listening to other songs by Elkie), her voice is closer to the alternate Stop The Music, than what is heard on the film. The woman on both those (Elkie?) had a deeper, throatier sounding voice, a little more groove in the quality.
Again it could be where they playing it, but even on the high notes they don't sound like the same singer (alt version Stop the Music and Baby Let me Love You vs movie version Stop the Music)

Season 9 Soundtracks: HobgoblinsTrack Listing* Kiss Kicker '99, Written by Hodson & Spingola, performed by The Fontanelles * Passion Kills, Written by Coonce & Spingola, performed by The Fontanelles * Love-Me-Nots, written by Coonce & Spingola, performed by The Fontanelles * Hayride to Hell, written by Hodson & Spingola, performed by The Fontanelles The Fontanelles were a post-punk/ dark wave band from California. Kiss Kicker 99 comes from their 1987 self-titled 7" vinyl. The lineup: Spit Spingola, vocals / Pat Bostrom & Cole Coonce, guitars / Mark Hodson, bass / Tony Cisero, drums There are some interesting comments here about the group... rateyourmusic.com/release/ep/the-fontanelles/the-fontanelles/, one guy mentions that he was responsible for getting the band and the director together. That they had some major label interest but when that fell through, they broke up. The Fontanelles did record a multi track single and Rick Sloan released a Hobgoblins soundtrack, and MST did get them heard by a whole new audience, so their music lives on. OthersCaliban and Ariel show up again (repeatedly) in Phantom Planet / Symphonie Fantastique makes its way into the Screaming Skull / I'm putting Pumaman's theme under score, but this is again, a tune the brains turned into a song by adding lyrics. I also watched Devil Fish uncut (so very very NOT fun, what with the violence against women). I didn't find a song, but there are several edits of the movie.

Season 10 Soundtracks... SoultakerTrack Listing* What a Lovely Way to Go, Karen Lawrence (Lawrence and Fred Hostetler) * Somewhere in Paradise, Karen Lawrence (Lawrence and Fred Hostetler) * Happy Today, The Kevin Danzig Band (Danzig) * You Got Me Kelly, The Kevin Danzig Band (Danzig) * Something Aint Right, The Kevin Danzig Band (Danzig) * Rock the Nation, Diamond (Mitch Diamond) * Lonely in Love, Diamond (Mitch Diamond) * Fight Fire With Fire, Diamond (Mitch Diamond) * Kiss of Death, The Seven Year Itch (C.J. Buscalgia) Karen Lawrence (who once worked with Jeff Beck) opens the movie. And I went and listened to her other work, and damn, she's talented, try this one for size... youtu.be/b7XSOWwwvcs "What a Lovely Way to Go" sounds like something from Alice Cooper's Last Temptation LP, it's the best of her 2 numbers and my favorite from the soundtrack. The Kevin Danzig Band is the group playing at Summer Festering (click band name for bio) - Diamond are the hard rock tunes Brad listens to (couldn't find anything about them, but you can listen to their full album here.... youtu.be/kqgidAx8ne8). I was surprised to see Green Jello/Jelly's C.J. Buscalgia credited as a songwriter on one track (that I can't find, I watched the movie unriffed but I didn't hear it). C.J. sadly died in 2015... cj-buscaglia-obitAn interesting mix of styles, but they do match the personality of the characters, or of the setting (summer fest) and aren't just thrown in there willy-nilly. The movie was direct to VHS, so I don't believe a soundtrack was ever released.

Season 10 Soundtracks: Girl in Gold BootsVocal Track Listing (in order): Words and Music by Chris Howard unless otherwise noted * Girl in Gold Boots, Larry Cartell * (Everything I Touch Turned To) GOLD (1959), Joe Valino (written by Dennise Norwood) * My Careless Heart, Larry Cartell * Wheels Are Turning, Larry Cartell * Sin, Larry Cartell (written by Hoven-Shull) * The Hurting Game (this plays during the diner, teleportation scene, but nobody credits it or seems to know who recorded it) * Cowboy Santa, Larry Cartell (written by Nick Busillo) * Jimmy's Girl, Larry Cartell * That's The Fool in Me, Jerry Wallace * I Just Want to Rest, Chris Howard and the Third World * Do You Want to Laugh or Cry, Chris Howard and the Third World * Lonesome Man, Jody Daniel (written George Eddy) * You Gotta Come Down, Jody Daniel (written by Daniel & Bobby Batson) This thing is just wall to wall music, and my track listing doesn't even include the many instrumentals. This is a wild one, you got a Sinatra-like singer, mod go-go rock, country western, 50s-style pop, orchestral strings and harmonicas, a Christmas novelty number, a folky love song, all in one crazy package. From wiki... Nearly half of the songs in this music-laden movie, including the title song, were written by singer-songwriter and sound engineer Chris Howard, who appears as himself and is backed by a band called "The Third World" in the credits (not to be confused with the reggae band Third World). One scene features bongo player Preston Epps, who had achieved some fame a decade earlier with his 1959 pop hit, "Bongo Rock". In fact, Epps is listed in the opening credits as "that Bongo Rock man." Among the country stars featured on the soundtrack are Larry Cartell and Jerry Wallace - Wallace's song "That's The Fool In Me" (B-side "Are You Ready") was released in 1968 as a 'non-album' single, but did not chart One hit wonder Joe Valino sang that great GOLD track, which did not chart. Don't know what became of Jody Daniel(s) but his Lonesome Man... that scene just cracks me up, especially when Michele's head pops up, looking concerned. Season 10 Soundtracks: Folk Music Edition!Merlin's Shop of Mystical WondersLittle kid sings "Rock N' Roll Martian", the tune was sung, and probably written, by little kid (I wonder if his mama washed his mouth out with soap after the 'effin old martian bit?) The Blood Waters of Dr. ZTrack Listing: All songs written and performed by Jamie DeFrates and Barry Hodgin * World War Two Boy (the theme from 'Zaat') * Runnin' Don't Make You Free (cut from MST version) Jamie DeFrates was briefly in the film (in a scene cut from the MST version, click to see him here... youtu.be/9JXEttdWRG4?t=3868 it should start at around the 1:04 mark) - Anyhoo, Jaimie was a musician/composer/producer, who lived in Jacksonville, FL at the time the film was being made, he was born in Springfield, Illinois, and his parents ran a Christian ministry that included a radio show called “The Golden Gospel Hour.” (source billectric.wordpress.com/2016/04/24/the-creatures-lesser-known-cousin/) DeFrates website... jamiedefratesmusic.com/ - I couldn't find anything on his musical partner. Track of the Moon Beast* California Lady, The Frank Larrabee Trio Here's a scratchy single version of the song... www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RUT5iGspgcAnd the EP in its entirety... www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0cW6rZSruoI like this music - folk-rock, a bit country, with a sound and voice that calls to mind Jim Croce or Keith Carradine. I prefer the live (film) version better than the studio - I like the harmonies with the woman, the bass playing is sharp, and I think it's better without the fiddle. Many, many, many years ago I tracked down Frank (he owns a construction company, is into horses, and hosted father's day concerts in the park in New Mexico, so he was a well-known citizen of the area). And contacted him requesting an interview - don't worry, I was very respectful and made sure he knew that I enjoyed the music (I wasn't there to tease him), but he never responded. Too bad, I would have liked to have had some info on the others folks playing with him in the film. I've read that his bit with the outdoor concert was included in an attempt to draw music fans who might otherwise not be into a scary flick. See the full movie unriffed, or click play (it should jump to the song)

Season 10 SoundtracksThe final sci-fi season is just full up on songs, one of the most musical of the series. I have one more entry after this one. Final JusticeTrack Listing* The Sound of Justice, David Morgan (music David Bell, music John Wilkman) * You Better Run, Bill Scott and Neal Ferraro (written by Bill Scott) * Look At Me Dancin', Bill Scott and Larry Ketchell (written by Bill Scott) and there's Carnival Music by Moacir Santos playing during the festival. I like this song better when it was called Twilight Zone by Golden Earring (at least the verses sound similar) Lots of nudity in this film, and uncut, you learn (and see) that Palermo is a rapist and sadist, so throw this in the poopie pile with Sidehackers and Devil Fish. No trivia to share - Bill Scott and David Bell are too common a names. Larry Ketchell is not to be confused with Larry Knetchtel, who was a session musician and a member of the famed Wrecking Crew. HamletThe uncut version runs over 2 and a half hours, and I was unable to find that version (nor did I really want to, lol). But the MST edit does show some of Ophelia singing her fragments of songs about chaos, death, and unrequited love. It Lives By Night* Angel of Fear, Sally Stevens (music by Artie Kane, lyrics by Morgan Ames) The movie's mostly known as "Bat People" and while I couldn't find it unriffed on YouTube (not even a clip of the song), there were some known names associated with the tune including composer Artie Kane, who did a lot of TV work (scored over 250 shows), Morgan Ames, and Sally Stevens, who you've likely heard, even if you didn't know it. She's the voice on the Simpsons theme, did vocals on Deadpool 2, The Matrix, Doctor Zhivago, Dirty Harry, The Muppets Movie and scores of others, hundreds of them. It was inevitable that MST would eventually bump into her.

UPDATE! I found a full length version of Baby Let Me Love You, from The Deadly Bees, on YouTube The song was released as the A-side with Stop the Music. (BTW, STM became a popular tune, covered by several Swedish and Danish bands, Lee Kings, Dick Jordan, Hitmakers, and Midnatt Fyran. Digging deep into her career, I see Elkie supported the Beatles in their 1964 tour. I also see her style described as Northern SoulHere's a blog post about her career... albumsiwishexisted2.blogspot.com/search/label/Elkie%20Brooks
