While there’s a lot more we’re aiming to do – especially in creating social viewing and interaction, adding watch parties, etc -- you know, all that fancy stuff Joel promised during the KS to make this sound like more than just paying $100 for streaming access to one season of a show....
Mind you, I don't need any of that stuff (which is also why I didn't back), but it sure sounded from a lot of backers that they were excitied about all that stuff. So, I wonder what the reaction will be if Ep 1 comes out and there's nothing to do but watch it stream, maybe a chat, like you know, any YouTube video can do right now, actually like what The Mads just did earlier this week.

I think they'll be happy their favorite show is back and be glad they won't have to wait until all the enhanced features are done to start watching it :b

Nope. The Gizmoplex as they are now planning for it to be at launch is basically VHX/Vimeo with a skin. In fact, I glossed over this little tidbit the first two times I read the update, but it's worth noting: "To safeguard your experience, we’re also working to make sure that – even if the Gizmoplex site experiences technical problems in the beginning – you’ll still be able to attend all livestream events and access all of your own video collection through other channels. More specifically, you will always have the ability to watch all content directly on VHX, as well as through the MST3K apps that we’ll be releasing before the first new episode premieres."
There's a few different ways that can be interpreted, but basically I'm understanding it as all Gizmoplex exclusive content - the premieres and the live events - will be available to watch outside the Gizmoplex website, through VHX/Vimeo or through the four apps (down from the original six promised), at least for backers with Gizmoplex access. That undercuts the importance of the Gizmoplex to watching new content at the very beginning of its life, even as the stripped-down Phase 1 version.

Someone has posted on Reddit that Joel said, during the Q&A he did for a "local con" (presumably the Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention held this weekend; Joel did a virtual panel yesterday afternoon 11/13) that the first of the new episodes will premiere "Feburary to March."

Some info here in case you haven't seen it, from Shout!'s Turkey Day announcements --

BTW, I watched the little 30 sec Shout! trailer, and I didn't mind the voices except Gypsy. Her new bot body was okay, although looked extra cheap to me. The thing that got me though was at no point in the little trailer were they funny. The trailer was just three bots/people saying watch our new show without any character or anything. Meh.

That's unfortunate. Granted, one might argue that a commercial's main job is to tell people to watch, but MST3K usually does a good job of bringing the character and charm to remind people *why* they should watch

Based on the photos on the new update, it looks like Baron and Hampton are actually operating the bots in the theater in the new update.

So...no more pointless cgi nonsense requiring 12 puppeteers in rafters during theater segments? No more generic bot movement?
*deep breath*
A SINGLE THEATER RIFF SEGMENT BASED ON 1 LIVE SHOT THAT CAN BE EASILY COMPOSITED ON TOP OF FILM PLAYBACK BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL THERE DURING PLAYBACK, THUS NO LONGER NECESSITATING TIME-WASTING AND AWKWARD POST-PRODUCTION EDITING ON THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT AND RECOGNIZABLE ASPECT OF YOUR SHOW?!?!
Good lord. There just might be hope yet. Hopefully they're all shot like that and it wasn't staged or for just that episode.

We also got confirmation that Jonah would be riffing the Gamera movie, which is cool.

Was going to say... from that gif in the update you can CLEARLY see them operating the robots themselves together in the green screen theater as the Good Lord intended and comfortably might i add. i mean, who could have saw that coming, right. but im sure we'll find plenty of other assumptions to prematurely lose our sh*t over.
