Its gotta be a TV setting thing at this point. No way so many people can experience the episodes so differently for it to be on the episode's end. I've gotta do some more experimenting with the episodes and my TV's speakers settings. It is not just TV settings.. the new episodes are mixed differently than the classic episodes. There is a greater range in sound levels from the quieter moments (usually the dialogue only scenes with no music or environmental noise) to the shouty riffs in the new episodes compared to the classic ones. Variance in how we set up our settings can dramatically change our listening experience but the natural range sound levels is different than the classic episodes. This is a fact and has been pointed out in detail (with sound wave charts and all) to Ivan and the crew. Several surveys getting feedback and they still have not fixed it. This is within their control to change and I am frustrated as hell they haven't done it yet. Add in Milhouse crow and it was a pretty miserable experience for me.. especially since the episode had so much going for it.

Good to know its not on my end, then. They need to round up the editors of the original show, or even Tom Naunas, and get advised on the proper way to do the sound mixing.

Good to know its not on my end, then. They need to round up the editors of the original show, or even Tom Naunas, and get advised on the proper way to do the sound mixing. Season 11 was much better than the current mixing too. Much more condensed range of volume between quiet dialogue and riffing. That I can confirm with my sound meters. I also detect a subtle muting of the film when riffs are being said. I seem to recall (but can't find the quote after looking for a bit) Joel mentioning that Netflix has sound standards that required the show to be tweaked a bit after they handed the episodes in. I wonder if Netflix tweaked the sound themselves. I liked that method even more than the classic series. It was subtle enough that you don't notice it unless you are analyzing it but it allowed for the noisy action scenes to get out of the way of the riffing just a tiny bit when they were talking. It was great. S12 I had more of an issue with sound levels. Rifftrax VOD often have similar sound level issues too and it's made me more hesitant to buy VODs without seeing them first. Liveshows are typically ok sound level wise. Bottom line is I can tolerate it to a certain degree but when it's do or die to keep this show going independently AND they are doing these backer previews/asking for feedback/ and so many backers have said it's a problem... I am just so frustrated it isn't solved. Lots of casual viewers aren't gonna spend any additional time tweaking anything to enjoy S13.

Based on the time frame, I’d say those are for the Joel episodes.

I think there are 2 points we can all agree on is: 1. 1303 had really good riffing (as far as the script goes). 2. There's clearly been different teams writing every episodes' riffs, to wildly different effects. I'd rate the substance of riffs, by themselves, so far as: 1303 - A- 1301 - B 1302 - C+ I also want to see the credits to know who wrote what. If Joel ever does another survey at the end of the season, it'd be nice to point to one particular group of writers and say "use these guys on everything going forward!". Hopefully they start to write episodes one at a time in the future, making that possible. I don't fully agree with the ratings, but I will agree 1303 is easily the strongest thus far. Mary Jo apparently wrote on 1302. I'd have to really rewatch the first two again (probably when the final cuts go up), but I felt RW grew on me. And the first half landed more for me in a first rewatch - the livestream process can throw you at times as a viewer, though I don't have anything to do with those live chats or whatever and have never seen them when viewing on Gizmoplex.

Sound was perfect for me on this episode. Just exactly right... why some are still having issues while others aren't, is odd.
As to Kolos' ratings, yeah, in terms of the riff work, I agree.
I want to go over them again when they are complete. But watching the 2nd cut versions they offered - Santo I enjoyed even more with it as a straight episode, without the Livestream stuff, but Robot Wars I couldn't finish, even without the wraparounds. I'm not giving up on it, I'll watch it on May 7th, but right now it's clearly my least favorite of the 3. I'd probably drop it to a C or C-

A few minutes in, and I was fine with Kelsey. She's got Crow somewhere in her voice, so it works for me. And as others have pointed out, it's her first episode. The voice will evolve. Best episode of season 13 so far. The right kind of film, and nice pace of riffing. Several laugh out loud moments. Yes, I like it.

I'd rate the substance of riffs, by themselves, so far as: 1303 - A- Man, it's too bad everyone is digging the riffs in 1303, cuz I really just can't get past Crow's voice.

Weird, I was listening through headphones, watching on the laptop (not through the TV) and I heard a male voice echo... but not on Kelsey. During the bit where hosts meet, at about 125:42, I could hear a voice in background saying "Really" as Emily says, "Oh really" (responding to Jonah after he says, "It's a host eat host world.")
Edit, Jonah directed, didn't he? So, I'm guessing, as with GPC in the theater the Jet screen stuff is put in post, so she's reacting to something she can't see, and likely Jonah is reading his lines (as a guide) off screen - he either accidentally read her line, or was feeding Emily her line?

I could tell the writing was strong but barely laughed a few times. It was so painful. There isn't much hope that it will change this season so I am just hoping I get used to it enough to enjoy the riffs.

Like the ASMR sketch.. GPC's voice is obviously not done right.

Just finished my third viewing, and I'm officially used to Crows voice, didn't think twice about it. And her delivery of the line "Hard to argue with your dad when he's in his power clam" as put-upon daughter, was perfection. Team Kelsey all the way. Love this experiment.
I'll be back for a fourth helping on the eight.
