I am getting an uncomfortable vibe about the Kelsey/Nate situation. Someone pointed out on the Discourse forum that probably there have been NDAs involved. I understand that it's not the fans' business to know about internal personnel decisions. But someone who was an enthusiastic member of a highly-touted and hyped MST3K cast, who posted so much about his involvement and work and seemed to all appearances to enjoy his job has been memory holed with only the briefest official mention of his being gone after much discussion from backers. I don't blame people for asking questions. I only hope that it was a mutual, cordial decision. I wonder at this point if it was just overdubbing or if the host segments were reshot? If it's just dubbed, it feels not wrong exactly but not quite right either to pretend that Kelsey was puppeteering Crow in the host segments filmed last October. I guess we won't know for sure until the episode is released with the credits. Your discomfort is warranted. They did re-dub Nate's parts. While this is all largely a private matter, at the same time, "we" are the producers of the show, and the fact that several scenes needed to be dubbed means that was an added expense. I can tell you there were some other departures behind the scenes, but if you dare to even lightly question anything on the official forums, people jump all over you. I hope my discomfort ISN'T warranted--the main reason I'm uncomfortable with this is that usually when this kind of thing happens, it means somebody did something pretty terrible... Otherwise, I really dig Kelsey's Crow...it feels pretty good, and this episode (I'm about a third of the way through) is very solid.

Well, if the last paragraph from Nate's page on the MST3K Wiki is correct, I think you may be onto something. mst3k.fandom.com/wiki/Nate_Begle

I will just echo what I literally just said to you on the Discourse and say that your hypothesis is right: This is, for me, easily the best cast-debut episode with the likely exception of The Brain That Wouldn't Die.

That's probably the one I would hold up above it as well. The kid in me who watched Sci-Fi episodes probably wants to hold Revenge of the Creature above it as well, but the first theater segment in that is pretty weak while I found Beyond Atlantis very funny throughout.

Yeah, I remember loving the new setup on 801 but finding the riffing merely middle of the road. But I haven't watched either Brain or Revenge in ages, so I should rectify that.

Guys, Nancy Cartwright doesn’t do the voice of Milhouse. That’s Pamela Hayden.

Alright, I'm gonna settle down and watch the livestream replay. Going to treat it as a "live" event and comment as I watch. Then use the other thread for a summary.

They probably could've cut the 10 minutes of "standby for transmission" at the beginning. And as much as I enjoy the jazz, I'm not going to sit through 20 minutes of it now.

This Tom is so much better for the intro. Oh, but Felicia is still singing, too.
More polish to the intro. Looks a bit better.
Crow sounds like Louise from Bob's Burgers...let's see how that goes...

The hallway looks different. Slightly better.

Yeah, they definitely changed either the hallway or the lighting on it.

Yeah, Crow's voice is very distracting. Its an ok delivery of lines, its just the VOICE. So damned...cartoon cereal mascot-y.
