Baron and Hampton nailed their roles IMO. they had the qualities that trace and josh did while also bringing their own flavor. Bill corbett can't do half the characters that hampton can.. he was perfect for it. It's one the best things did for numst3k is he didn't cast them.. He let Jonah pick his team. Jonah picked great folks that he had chemistry with him and matched the characters well. The problem is they didn't let them write on all the episodes or puppeeter. So they were hampered in that way and were unable to get their own flavor and chemistry consistently in the riff writing. When Joel did casting we for the bots professional pupeeteers first and comedic ability second.. and the results speak for themselves with Emily's crew. Barron and Hampton are the worst Tom and Crow IMO and Jonah is the worst host. Season 13 probably would not have gotten a full season if it was only the Netflix crew with No Joel and No Emily.

Season 13 probably would not have gotten a full season if it was only the Netflix crew with No Joel and No Emily. hard disagree. Having Joel come back was definitely a boost no debate there. But the day before the Joel/emily announcements they had raised 3.2 million (just a hair below the 6 episode goal). Which is better than they did at that point on the first campaign. So with everyone seeing jonah/hampton/baron the campaign was already doing better than before. They were doing just fine and would have hit 5.5 million without emily and joel IMO. I can't imagine how much hampton must rub you the wrong way for you to prefer milhouse crow.. but different strokes and all that. I love Hampton.. seen his standup several times, loved his podcasts, etc

I mostly agree with you on Hampton, don't really agree with you on Baron, but the point remains. It's a symptom of how the show is run now, and until they fix that, they will never have another golden era. Absolutely and I think if Jonah was allowed to truly build a new team he would get that chemistry. Also he agrees with a lot of fans about how overblown the netflix seasons were. Check out this interview response from him: Would you agree that this is maybe going a little bit back to "MST3K's" roots in a way? That a "big" production of "Mystery Science Theater" seems almost antithetical to the spirit of the thing?Jonah Ray: Yeah. I was confused by the size. I remember walking onto those sets for the Netflix seasons: Gigantic sound stages. Which in itself is exciting, and you're going on to a lot — It's show biz! You're walking around and I'm in the jumpsuit, and you're in your costume. And you're like, "Oh, this is like in 'Pee-wee's Big Adventure.' When the centurions are walking by, and the spacemen and cowboys." And it feels like show biz, and it's super fun. But it's also antithetical to what the show is. We're not too dissimilar from the movies we're watching. We're just some scrappy people trying to make some entertainment, trying to make some people happy. And we're no better than the movies we're watching. We're just having fun with them. And we should embrace what they embraced, which is, a lack of major resources. And just swinging for the fences. And that's what it felt like this time. It did feel like how [the original cast] would make it. And I remember, even on that second season. When Joel was talking about this season, I was like, "We can bring it way down." And I was trying to tell him, I was like, "Me and Felicia, we come from web videos and sketches and DIY." When there's 70 people on set and you're just trying to go, "Okay. Sorry. Keep on messing that line up. All right. Let's do it again. Action. [Robustly exaggerated] "What do you mean?" And then just some guy, some gaffer, some union guy, just waiting to get off, just waiting. Just give the show to jonah already... Joel needs to get out of the way.

Interesting to note, the Gizmoplex opens up with a page advertising that the episodes are free until 2023… what happened there?

For the classic eps, I think they were always to be streamed free to members, but starting in 2023, they would have ads in them, which I thought was another crap move by them--aren't there multiple places to watch the shows now for free but with ads without any membership?
I thought I heard someone say they still don't have ads, I don't know I'm not a member, but if true, my guess is that it takes some actual IT work to switch around anything and they don't have any employees. I'm surprised the site is up at all. It might not be whenever the next year of service is up, maybe January, maybe February?

Nope. No ads.
It always seemed like a simple way to raise revenue for the Gizmoplex (no ads for paid membership, free viewing with ads) but you would have to have a marketing person on staff or else hire an outside company to sell ad time and maybe even produce a few ads so I can see why it hasn't happened. You have to spend at least some money to make money.

I wouldn't mind ads if they could riff on them.

Btw the numbers for S11 and S12 are actually the same since Gauntlet is half the episodes of the Return Any good comparison numbers from other shows?

Too bad we don't have the data from the years from when the seasons were released. 2023 numbers for those two seasons are pretty meaningless given that you can watch them elsewhere now, they were released a while ago, etc I would love to see the gizmoplex data especially the data for individual episodes of Season 13.

I wouldn't mind ads if they could riff on them. Or make the ads be in-universe like the old days!

You mean like the sponsor ads during the Gizmoplex episode premieres?

I can’t say the failure of the third fundraiser was a surprise to me, I knew the show couldn’t run on just crowdfunding alone. Particularly when a lot of fans (like myself) aren’t exactly well off financially, and already dug deep twice. I feel like the only way the show could go forward would be to shop it around, and hope for the best. However it’s a very real possibility that maybe the time of MST3k is just over, as fatalist as that may sound.
