All he really needs to do is realize Han shot first and Jabba didn't have crappy musical numbers in his palace.

This is my exact opinion. This guy has turned into an idiot, he needs to go watch Kurosawa movies again. Computer animation is sooo Flippin overrated and it completely destroyed his classis trilogy (so did the new trilogy, a little). I think he does it just to spite his fans...that and he sucks the fumes from his car, what an ass*ole!

Lucas would probably go and rererelease the films just so he can edit it to make Chewbacca Luke's father mark my words. If I'am wrong let lightning strike me.

OK at the risk of getting attacked just how big a deal is this? Will ChibodeeCrocket get struck by lightening or is Lucas changing the actual plot? Isn't it more along the lines of technical improvements? I like Star Wars, I saw all three originals when they came out but I'm not an ubber fan so I just can't get too worked up about this. Should I?

Should I? It’s a weird situation. Lucas went and “improved” his classic trilogy by adding in some “new” special effects. Unfortunately, the CGI that Lucas used (back in like what, the mid 90’s?) now appears extremely outdated, and the new scenes he tacked on appear to be just that – tacked on. They clash very strongly with the original film, and they really take you out of the movie. A huge army of loyal Star Wars fans have been up in arms a bout this, claiming that George Lucas ruined The Trilogy. (Which I don’t think he did, although I hate the so-called improvements he made.) Personally, I wont be paying for these jacked up movies since I don’t support the butchering of American pop couture. I think that Star Wars is really about George Lucas and his fall to the dark side. Who’s going to redeem him though?

I thought about the colorizing B&W movies comparison but it's not quite the same. In those cases it's a third party changing the work of a director. With Star Wars it is the original director/producer. I'm not saying that excuses it but they are his movies to change. I agree though, the originals should be available.

The "extra" scenes in the SE are something to be abit off about, but I did like the clean up factor. Even out the edges, make the old effects abit better.
It was good intentions as to why Lucas did it. He wanted to make them better and top of the line like it was in 77. I don't think he has gone crazy, but I believe he was doing it to add more "magic" to the screen and making it more diverse. Of course some of it fell flat, but what is Lucas supposed to do, say all the work he put back into the three worthless?
Yeah, both versions should be available and Jar Jar should get killed, but don't go Lucas hating. He gave us something that changed our lives and even though it didn't come out as we hoped, he did his best to what he thought would be something to remember.
Man that sounded cheesey. Ah well.

Wow, by the looks of my post you'd think I was a huge Star Wars fan, but I'm not really. I mean I grew up with the wonderful imagination these movies carried and fed, but I'm no where close to a Star Wars geek (I only own the 1st one on vhs). But I still love this trilogy. Now call me stupid (as most of you do anyway) but I think the old special effects were much better than g*ddamn CGI. I mean, back then, it was material at least and when you watch CGI you KNOW it's just an animation and therefore like a cartoon (in a hyperbole sorta way). After reading your post Cherokee, it's true the main reason to redo his trilogy was to clean it up (which looks vastly improved), which may be a factor in his not releasing the original trilogy, but it can't be too hard to edit it them with just the clean up and not the extra cartoons [sic]. I am at total agreement w/ Monster., the new scenes are like pink over orange (I mean they clash w/ the movie) and are now outdated. We can only hope, for a new hope.
