...and I don't care!
Anyways, everyone at work thinks I laugh at "stupid stuff" for watching this show. It pisses me off, especially when I ask people who haven't even SEEN or HEARD of the show to come check it out, and they just say "No, it sounds stupid". I'll tell ya the truth, I probably thought the same thing before I saw MST3K: The Movie for the first time. I said the same thing before I saw "Jurassic Park" the first time, and I ended up seeing it 7 times in the theater!!!
I don't understand why people are so closed-minded about everything. Are they so insecure about what they like and believe in to the point that if I give my opinion, they immediately lash out at what I believe in? What a world.
Anyone have similar stories?

Truly stupid people wouldn't get MST. That doesn't mean anyone who doesn't like it is stupid, ...or does it?

I was mocked the other day for liking "mystery science theater 200"-- Gee, if you don't even know what it is just keep it to yourself! People get me so mad...

Heck no, I've never been slammed for liking the show. I hang with those who are better than others and know it!
But think of it this way. The general stupid MST hating public made hits of "Who's the Boss" and the "Nanny". Has there been more inane pablum spewed forth among the world than this?
Well has there?!
Keeping that in mind, it doesn't matter what your puss filled co-workers think. They probably go home at night, swill beer and chili dogs while they sit in there "Goldberg" underwear and have themselves a Pauly Shore film fest!
Do their opinions matter?
Well do they!!
Be proud, act like a intellectual elitist snob, you're better than they are so mock and chide them for their idiocy. And remember, In the words of Crow,
"Impose your ideas on others, It's easy! Crush someone with an emotional word or an enigmatic look..."

Haha good post Mighty Jack.
I have been mocked for MST3k a bit but those were just empty words coming from an empty place...

I truly believe that MST3K could be used as a simple IQ test. The funnier you find the show, the smarter you are. I have yet to find a "true" fan who wasn't highly intelligent and/or artistic.

The people who shunned this show are the same group who keep King of the Hill and Malcolm in the Middle on the air.
So I don't mind. I got my tapes. They don't have to watch them.

Everytime I ask anyone I know about MST, I get a blank stare, or a pathetic shaking of the head. 2 people have seen the show and both think its stupid.
But I think that's the greatness of the show. It looks stupid but it is VERY intelligent. And phantomengineer is right, "truly stupid people wouldn't get MST".

lol, my Dad is so funny, he always gets the name of the show confused, purely by accident/bad memory
"hey, what are you watching? Science Fiction Theater 2000?"
"uh...yeah dad."

This topic has really made some people vent quite a few frustrations....
Anyway, I'm only ridiculed by my family, and that doesn't bother me too much. It's mostly good natured. The hardest thing about it is that my grandparents think that I just like to watch bad movies. They don't understand the appeal of the show.
"Don't you think this movie would be better if those three guys weren't talking through it?"

I truly believe that MST3K could be used as a simple IQ test. The funnier you find the show, the smarter you are. I have yet to find a "true" fan who wasn't highly intelligent and/or artistic. I never wanted to say that, but YES, I feel that's true. It's all relative...some people won't get the obscure references simply because they don't watch much TV, yet at the same time are very smart. Luckily, i'm smart enough to get most of the jokes even though I don't watch TV. I mean, I understand what they're getting at. One of the guys at work recently said that I laugh simply because I feel a need to so I can make myself think I still like the show. Can you say "Overanalyzing"? First off, I will never get sick of this show. Second, I don't laugh at the show just for the sake of it. If the joke isn't funny, then I won't laugh.

Well my previous venting was just my usual smart ass self coming out (I'm sure their are many brainiacs who don't enjoy the show). but Ator, that last bit really P.M.OFF!
How dare he say that to you. For one it disrespects you as an individual and invalidates your opinons. How does he know why you laugh? What, is he Kreskin!? (Oh wait, he's not an MST fan, he probably doesn't even know who Kreskin is!) Can he crawl inside your brain and see what your thinking? (can he bend spoons with his mind?)
Also; the show digs beyond TV and other pop references and delves into the world of art, literature, science and even religeon... "Man's fate is predestined" - "Oh, so he's a Calvanist". how many other shows are that smart.
The Simpsons in it's heyday, is another good example, but it's rare air these Best Brain inhabit.
Yeah right, I'm going to "pretend" to laugh. In fact I think I'll go watch "From Justin to Kelly" and pretend to be dazzled because MSTies do that. We force ourselves to like the unlikeable... Pinhead!
Tell your co-worker that you're an existentialist who rejects the views of someone who embraces "opinions" as absolutes. And that you will not be bound by his limited world view.
And laugh while you watch his little pinhead spin!
End of rant. Thank you...

Exactly! I was pissed the hell off also when he said that. The funny thing is, he IS one of those people who thinks that his opinions are the correct answer. This guy also thinks he knows how to get rid of my depression. He says "Think you are right even when you are wrong" (put simply). Uhh, that has to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I think i'll try that existentialist bit on him.

That's cool Forrest. My Grandma was the first riffer I ever knew (before the days of MST), we'd watch TV and she'd shoot off these comments (Not rapid fire like SOL crew of course).
She was one of the best, funniest ladies I ever knew.
Lets raise a toast to MSTie Grandmas, Huzzah!!
