One thing that makes a difference in what people like on TV is if they want to pay attention. A lot of people come home from work and want to relax and watch shows that don't require any thought. That explains the majority of sitcoms. But with MST you have to be on top of your game, you can't just blank out. I think that's one reason it never got a wide national audience. Also with a two hour air time it's a bit of a time commitment. So I don't mind if people say they don't like it. But if they say it's stupid their just showing theor ignorance. You have to be with the program to get MST. Pitty those who are out of the loop and forgive them for they know not what they say.

Well I meant jackasses in the way they treated you and your opinons.
You know, my fondest memory of MST was working my butt off on those busy Saturday's and when it was done, I was bone tired but I couldn't wait to get home, kick off the shoes, grab a drink and some pizza and watch MST.
It made me laugh SOOO much, and took the edge off a hard, exhausting day. What they did was a gift to this working slob, I wonder if the Best Brainers understood that.
That's why I miss it, the anticipation of a (sometimes) new episode. It was like having Christmas each week and nothings filled the void.
SOMEBODY out there, please make me laugh like that again!

I was VERY depressed a couple months ago because the military was kicking my ass, and all I could do was watch the show. It made me forget my woes, and cheered me up. Sometimes, the only reason I would even get out of bed on the weekends was to watch it. I think MST is one of the big reasons I got out of my depression, because I could just watch it all day, and completely forget about my problems and think positive for once. I'm alot better now, and still watch the show non-stop.

Wow, remember this old thread? Well, I thought it would be funny to point out that the majority of the people who made fun of the show are interested in seeing some of the episodes! You know why? Our shop chief (who is a respected Master Sergeant) is also a big fan of the show, which I just recently discovered. So, now all those people want to see it! Hmm, wow, its funny that people hate the show simply because I liked it, but then love it when someone else they know likes it!

[glow=green,2,300]I haven't quite been ridiculed for liking MST3K, but some guy that was doing his laundry at my place of employment said I was "a far out chick" for liking Sci Fi movies in general.[/glow]

The people who shunned this show are the same group who keep King of the Hill and Malcolm in the Middle on the air. So I don't mind. I got my tapes. They don't have to watch them. Hey! I love King Of The Hill!

I've been criticized for spending so much time, effort and money trying to get all the episodes, but as Johnny would say "I don't care!" I have a few friends that seem to enjoy the show when they come over, but often I feel like I'm forcing it on them, so I try not to play it 24/7 anymore At first, my girlfriend was kind of ambivalent, but now she's a big fan. My brother in law watches a lot of bad Japanese movies, so I thought I'd send him a Gamera and a Godzilla episode...needless to say he didn't "get it" at all, but that was really no surprise. Ridicule or not, it'll always be my favorite show.

I'm Canadian so anyone I know who's into the show is into it because I introduced them to it.
It's the lonely life of a Canadian MiSTie.

All of my friends and even my sister who is my friend (no bitterness there) love the show and we all watch it constantly.
However there are quite a few people out there who claim that if its not generally popular that it sucks in comparison to say Bad Boys 2 (which was popular, I'll give it that) and that they are right for liking "popular" stuff and we are wrong for liking "stupid" stuff. A guy (who I work with) with this belief gave the same reason when I told him the best movie in the Blockbuster we work at is Seven Samurai. He'll watch Seven Samurai if I watch Bad Boys 2... I don't know. He'll probably just turn the movie off when he realizes its subtitled. I don't want to watch a cliche Will Smith, Martin Lawrence crappy joke fest unless its for a good cause.

I don't know anyone who hates the show, but friends who have not experienced MST3K look at me weird and yesterday, I was watching the Creeping Terror for the first time, and my dad was focusing on the actual movie. I kept on telling him, "Ignore the movie! See those guys on the bottom? Listen to them!!" But he kept on complaining about how nobody ran in the film.

My parents and friends and sibling does it. She annoys me by putting a bowl on her head and saying "Hey, I'll be Bubblehead." Then my dad enters with a fish net on his head. "I'll be Lacrosse Stick Head." Then they say "If you know the movie is dumb, then why do you need the riffing." I just hate it so much.

The thing about missing the point is that if you try to explain the show premise to an MST virgin, to give them some context for the theater segments, you'll usually get weird looks. You gotta admit, when you're just describing MST3K's plot, it sounds pretty silly... ... though I suppose that's cuz it is. Anyway, MST3K really seems to me like a "You had to be there..." kinda thing.

I've never been ridiculed for liking it -- it came out when I was in college, and in college (and afterwards), being ridiculed for such things is kinda unlikely. But aside from a few friends and family members who like MST, most people I know aren't fans of the show.
The best way I've found, though, to introduce someone to the show is one of the shorts compilations -- even friends who claimed the show didn't appeal to them would laugh at those!
