When I was a kid I remember watching The Thing That Couldn't Die on TV and digging it. My two older sisters were just making fun of it. Years later when I saw it on MST it brought it all back. Maybe they unknowingly set me on the path to MST.

Definitely. Just the other night, the Ken Russell 'film', GOTHIC was on and I was reminded of how I tore it to shreds back when I was in high school (c.1992)...it was so pompous and exploitative and lousy that I couldn't contain myself and started riffing like mad. Suprisingly I had the whole room laughing.
It started long before that though, I had a friend that I rented films religiously with. We rummaged through every genre guilty of producing laughable crap films: sci-fi, horror, comedy, suspense...We did this from late elementary to late high school. We also hit the theatres every week, taking in trash like Independence Day and Time Cop. Two films out of several hundred were GORGO and TRACKS OF THE MOON BEAST. I've got the MSTed Gorgo but have yet to find the latter.
Anyway, I'm new to this board (I have been a regular on the IMDb MST3K board for a while and only came here because VanHagar3000 told me to)...I was going to log in as myself (Matthew Gosse) but I saw that most everyone logged in had MST-related handles (I hate handles)...so I fearing appearing to be a stick in the mud, I decided on Rowsdower (and am surprised it wasn't taken) because I am Canadian. Yes, I'm from this frozen WASTELAND called Quebec. I am relatively new to MST3K, I only got into it post-mortum (the show was off the air, I was not dead). I saw the movie a couple years ago and still never realized there was a show (yeah, despite the fact that it was clearly labelled, "THE MOVIE"). I only discovered the show about...less than a year ago. Since then I've managed to download and watch 113 episodes. Will soon begin watching #114- episode 808: The She-Creature.
I had also been listening to Man Or Astro-Man's cover of the theme song for like 7 years... (still didn't realize it was a show, despite the fact that on their live album, they introduce the song as "the theme song from our favorite t.v. show". Duh.

I've always riffed on things. Music, movies, TV, commercials, it's always been fair game. I don't know I guess it's just some strange part of my psyche that I can't get over. Me and one friend of mine even riff on things like billboards and street signs that have goofy names. Sounds weird huh? Hey, we laugh more than most people and laughter is the best medicine.
For psychotics like us......

Rowsdower, do not insult your home country! Canadians are COOL. . . Do you have Kids in the Hall? I like Kids in the Hall, 'cause they're funny. . . And Canadian. . . . However, I do not like Avril Lavinge or whatever. She is cool SOLELY because she is canadian. Her music is not of Canandian quality. ANYWAY, welcome Mr. Canadian Rowsdower.

er...really? We all make fun of them up here. God, I hate Rush. And Avril and Celine and...man, Canada blows when it comes to music. I think I only like two Canadian artists...Neil Young, who's...kinda Canadian (still retains his citizenship), but he is Canadian, but not so much a Canadian artist...regardless, his records make up the biggest chunk of my collection at about 30+ albums...I also like a band from Ottawa called WERBO...they've released two albums and are kinda lazy. They do Flaming Lipsish stuff.
Oh, and my band (naturally).

My friend, there is no way that you can tell me you've never listened to a Rush album, heard Neil Peart's amazing drumming, Geddy Lee's awesome bass playing and singing, and Alex Lifeson's shredding guitar solos and not thought that they rock.
Maybe you guys are just a bunch of Rush haters, Whatever.....

I know its fashionable to knock Avril, but I liked her CD. Good, solid, hook laden pop rock. But what do I know, I'm old.
Rush on the other hand... the rambling construction of their songs coupled with Lee sounding like he's OD'ed on hellium. Gawd, I'd rather run nekid through a field of cactus than listen to Rush!

I've listened to many a Rush album and I always have the same opinion-"Jesus Christ, do these 'mofos' ever suck.". Prog sucks in so many ways, and I've never found their prog even remotely impressive on a strictly technical level. Add onto their pompous wanking trite and pretentious lyrics and you've got a recipe for poopie. G.L. can't sing for his life...

Yes I hate Yes.
I like power hooks so I'm a huge gigantic Beatles fan. That's my style.
Simon and Garfunkle, Dylan. In the 70's it was the Ramones. Later, I loved Nirvana's "Nevermind", listened to that like it was manna from heaven.
More recent stuff, I like "The Shazam" (Tho the last CD stunk), Evanesence has been one of my favorites, Cotton Mather, a band from Boston called "Helicopter, Helicopter" is great
