I'm kinda curious why BB regretted it.

I feel (personally) "Catalina Caper" flounders because it doesn't provide a lot of laughs. The "White kids rule the world" jokes get really old after a while, and weren't that brilliant to begin with. But the jabs shot at Hobgoblins are varied, frequent and funny. great...that's the one I'm dowloading now. wasn't that one tough to riff on because it was a comedy?

Why do you find it a bad choice to riff? I think it made a hilarious episode, but I'll agree with you on the "bad choice" thing if you mean it as "they shouldn't have honored that douche bag, Rick Sloan, by putting it on MST3K" (which really is an honor). The Best Brains people should have taken his tape, formed a circle, urinated on it and then set Sloane on fire. Mr. Sloane actually asked them if they would do Hobgoblins on the show! That alone gives him a teeny bit of respect. Just a teeny bit.

I think they "regretted" it more because they didn't really find it as easy to riff as they would've liked. I imagine the scenario being similar to the "Radar Secret Service" story discussed in the ACEG where they really wanted it at first, but then hated it when they finally got it. Only this took place over a much shorter amount of time.

The following is taken from Daddy-Os Drive in Dirt
"He(Rick Sloane) personally submitted HOBGOBLINS to BBI for their consideration as an MST3K episode, and they graciously accepted it. They later came to regret their decision"

www.mst3kinfo.com/daddyo/daddyo5.htmlhas info for all the MSTed films, including casts & crew (annotated with information regarding other MSTed films they might have worked on), trivia, usually a nice little bio on the star or actor of note.
