Hey, hey, youz broads seem to be getting a little uptight. Hows about going to the kitchen and getting me a beer and a sandwich? Maybe that'll make you feel equal to us superior gents.

Mary T is NOT the authority on what women find acceptable, although I'm sure she will claim she wasn't trying to be. Still, she set a bit of a tone with it that sparked a debate. That's why I made the whole "completely different women" comment, which as you can plainly see is quite relevant to the point I was making. huh? what are you talking about I AM the voice of women! *Disclaimer* I'm joking don't bite my head off now that I've read everything i'm tired...

Then why did you say "Wow. Someone's a bit touchy, no?" That's not a simple disagreement, that's an attack on the validity of her opinion (she's unreasonable, she's touchy, she's too sensitive). That was personally directed at Mary. And as for setting a tone for debate, I found the tone in VanHagar's original 'babe' comment to be kind of crude. That wasn't a happy, light, fluffy use of the word babe that you guys have been saying exists. However, it wasn't grossly offensive or anything, I mean that's just the way he expressed his thoughts, that the woman is a "friggin' babe". But Mary was justified in taking objection to the negative aspects of it and commenting on that. Of course, she worded it as a generalization, which apparently started the whole debate. But isn't this entire thread based on broad generalizations? I just think it's interesting that many generalizations have been made in this thread, but it was hers in particular that was most actively debated, with only her as the defender. What I was suggesting before, yousonuva, about the lack of active female posters here, is that there may be a reason for it. I don't think it's necessarily "just the way it is". I think that if a female is offended by something, she's more likely to just leave and never come back. So if someone actually says that she's offended by something, you should pay heed to it, which you personally do quite well. But why does there always have to be such a big to-do over it? Every time I've brought something up, I've had to endure multiple attempts to make my opinion invalid one way or another. Like the labels I mentioned before. And I've seen it happen to other females here, too. I don't see why that is necessary. Of course I think she is being too sensitive. I only mention that to set up my disagreement. Not to attack her character. As already stated, she has her views (which are as valid as she wants them to be), & I have mine. You & Mary found Van's initial comment to be crude & negative. Fine. But I didn't. I'm gonna go out on a limb & say most everyone else didn't either. And if we are speaking in terms of generalizations then you have to remember that it leaves us a big grey area full of different opinions. I'm not out to change yours or Mary's opinions. I just think you should accept that there will always be some slightly crude or off color comments made from time to time and not to jump on them if it happens. I don't think my (or other guys) differing opinions here could be taken with such offense that it runs a female member off the boards. If she were to leave, it's her decision. Although I do think she would be overreacting. I see this board as being VERY tame as far as any mindless or sexist banter going on. Which is why I believe your (& Mary's) sensitivity dials are set a little too high. My endeavor in this thread is simply to try & keep the board from turning into a PC fest. I'm sure you would agree we all hate that. I just don't think it would be fair for all of us here to have to tip-toe around your feelings as if you were a fragile porcelain statue.

I was just responding to comments directed towards me after my initial chimng in on the whole 'babe' thing. That last post to Blurry is an effort to try & wind things down. I don't want to continue this either.

Most women DO find babe disrespectful.

I don't want to continue this either. that didn't look like a way to wind things down to me, I don't apreciate being called "fragile" I said I didn't like it, and in the Spirit of the board I was making a light hearted comment that SOMEONE had to blow up. Oh don't start yelling at me now because I think being called fragile is degrading, SORRY I won't voice my opinion to you any more! I'm gonna go.. watch my show,, I don't need to take this from you

Mary I'm sorry for sounding like I called you (& Blurry)fragile. The whole fragile statue...porcelain (whatever) thing was just the best way I could describe what I feared the board was turning into. I gave my POV & had no intentions of being long winded about it. If I'm the one who riled up the issue, then please accept my apologies. Having a good time with ALL of you is much more important to me that beating a gender (or tolerance)issue into the ground. Peace

The last time I saw a thread boil up like this, was on a Mustang vs. Camaro debate! Wow, I hope we don't lose any of you, and I hope no one got too angry over this. Anyways, my apologies to the offended. - Chris "The neutral guy"

You know want I mean, the S on her underwear for superman was coming up, she's a friggin' babe, too. And to think all this began with Van Hagar's reply to my rather vulgar joke. In my honest opinion the image of a woman vomiting her own superwoman underwear is a lot more offensive than the use of the word "babe" but what do I know. I like my own jokes... EDIT: Modified for damage control.

So please just ignore it if you see it annoying you and move on, unless it was directed at you, then you should certainly speak up. There, I'm sorry too (even though I hope no one got mad at me, cause I wasn't mad)
